“Mr. Zimmerman, sir – er
– thank you. Very much.” She turned sideways to look at Ethan who was standing
behind her with his arms wrapped around her. He nuzzled her neck gently.
“I’m not sure where I’ll
put Sandra Donnelly next, I need her leave of absence as much as she does.”
“Yes sir. I can come back today if-”
“You know your problem
Nadine? You need to play a little. Too much work and you’ll end up going the
same way as your predecessor. Take the day off…..and say hello to your young
man for me will you? Tell him I’m looking forward to seeing that new exhibition
in Phoenix he was telling me about.”
“Yes sir, thank you Mr.
Zimmerman.”
He hung up and Nadine
closed her cell.
She turned around to face
Ethan who still had his arms around her protectively.
“Alls well…” she said.
“That ends well,” he said
huskily.
There was a silence then
and instead of kissing her, as she had hoped he would, Ethan picked Nadine up
deftly and placed her so that she was sitting on the table with her legs
dangling down.
There was something he
had wanted to say.
Standing in between her
legs and cupping her chin softly in his hand he looked her straight in the eye.
“My life, before you came along, was good. But meeting you, and getting to know
you, made me better. It made my life….more meaningful.” He put a finger to her
lips, hushing whatever words she was going to say. With the fingers of his
other hand gently running through her rich auburn mane, he continued, almost
whispering, “So the escort stuff, sure, it earned me money, money I needed to
fuel my passion, which is this Nadine," he said, looking around the room.
"Creating pieces of art from metal, selling to investors and showing them in
galleries around the world. I worked odd jobs as an escort earning money to
just about get along. But now, ever since I’ve met you. I want more. You give
me more. You make me happy. You give my life a reason to shape up and
want more. And I want to create more beautiful things. And I don't think I need
to do any more odd jobs again."
There, that was it. All
that he had wanted to say, he had finally managed to get out.
She looked at him with
tears in her eyes and placed her hands gently on his face, stroking his tears
away.
They embraced each other
tightly, remembering the touch of their bodies, the smell of their scents and
the feel of their lips on each other.
They kissed for a long
time, hungry again, remembering the time they had shared and wanting more of
it.
And they knew now that it
need not end.
In fact, this was only
just the beginning.
