The book you hold in your hands,
The Scottish Play Murder
, is the second book of my Restoration Mysteries. In my first offering,
The Opening Night Murder
, I explained why I have declined to acknowledge that Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre was torn down in 1642, a victim of Puritan persecution of arts and entertainment. Those who have already read that book know what I am about to say, and for those who haven’t, I invite you to find a copy of that book for the full explanation. Here I will simply say I didn’t acknowledge the demise of the Globe because I prefer not to. It’s really that simple. This is a work of fiction, and I’m the author, and I wanted to use the Globe. So I have pretended a fictional Globe that happens to be on the spot occupied by the one Shakespeare built, and just for fun I say in my fictional story that Shakespeare built it. Everything else in this novel is true to known history.
