OR YOU HISTORY BUFFS
out there, anyone considering a writing career, or just lovers of excellent books, here is a list of books that inspired me in each arena. The first two are for research purposes; the third and fourth books are writers' resources, no matter what genre you like; and the final books are pure reading pleasure to me.
 Â
1.  Â
The Terror Before Trafalgar
by Tom Pocock
 Â
2.  Â
Secret Service: British Agents in France, 1792â1815
by Elizabeth Sparrow
These two books set me on my current writing career. They made me realize the depth of untold history in the world. They taught me that complete disclosure isn't in the history books that are written by the victors, or by the vanquishedâit's somewhere in between. Digging deeper can teach you so much; and, as in my case, change your life.
There are many others, but I'm afraid listing them will put you to sleep!

3.  Â
Writing the Blockbuster Novel
by Albert Zuckerman
 Â
4.  Â
Screenwriting Tricks for Authors
by Alexandra Sokoloff
These two books taught me about writing stories with a wider scope, and to create each scene as if it's a mini movie: alive and vibrant. These books have both novels and movies as references to help you understand where the author's coming from. Both are brilliant resources to help aspiring authors bring their books to huge, screaming, 3-D life!
 Â
5.  Â
Lord of the Rings
by J. R. R. Tolkien
 Â
6.  Â
The Book Thief
by Markus Zusak
These are magnificently written and vividly imagined novels with beautiful, lyrical language that haunts me long after I close the book again. They taught me to find beauty in every moment you can; find joy amid danger and never give up. No surprise that both were inspired by,
or written about, the world wars that changed our society so muchâno matter what side you stood on.
