“Alright, well…Are all of these ‘supers’,” she smiles faintly as she thinks of Finn’s frustration with her use of air quotes, “are they all…bad?” Sofie waves vaguely with her hands, trying to encompass things other than the slightly pathetic-sounding ‘bad’.

“No, not all of them are ‘bad’. But they’re not all good either. It’s kind of like asking if all people are good or bad, it doesn’t work that way, they’re individuals.” Ashton watches her reaction to his words, enjoying the way that the expression on her face tells him everything that she’s thinking. The wheels of her brain are turning as she’s trying to figure things out.

“So we’re talking good vampires and bad vampires? Christ, it sounds like
Twilight
!” Sofie laughs to herself as she paces up and down.

“You read
Twilight
?” Ashton doesn’t even bother to hide his amusement.

“You’re a werewolf, you’re not exactly in a position to judge!” Sofie skips over the embarrassing truth of her choice or reading material and moves on. “So that was my second question, your turn to answer.”

“Well, if you’re any kind of an expert on
Twlight
, you’ll know that vampires and werewolves aren’t exactly the best of friends. But yes, there are some vamps that aren’t any better than common murderers and there are some that choose to live as we do, with humans rather than feeding off of them.” Ashton looks at her expectantly.

“You read
Twilight
?” Sofie has stopped pacing and instead is looking at him in astonishment, which after everything that she’s heard in the past few weeks, is no mean feat.

“Is that really your third question?” He doesn’t look at her as he asks the question but Sofie does detect a faint pink rising in his cheeks that might answer her question for her.

“No! No! That just…came out! Forget it!” She jumps up and down, like a little kid, trying to stamp out her erroneous question. “If there are some good supers and some bad ones, then why won’t you ask them to come help us? We haven’t exposed them, so there’s no reason for them to be pissed at us!”

“Because supers don’t mix, Sofie!” Ashton explodes in frustration, like he’s trying to explain a universal truth. “They will no more come to help us than we would go to help them. It’s not the way things work.”

Sofie looks taken aback. “Wow, and I thought it was only us pathetic humans that were intolerant assholes!” Sofie shakes her head at the answer to her question.

“Are you calling me intolerant asshole?” Ashton raises an eyebrow at her.

“Don’t you think that’s kind of what it sounds like?” Sofie counters, taking a step closer to him on the bed.

He shrugs laconically. “You’re all out of questions, I’m afraid Dr. Braun.” Ashton crooks his finger beckoning her over. “Now come here and stop trying to pump me for information. If I’m not going to see you again for a while, I want to enjoy every last second that we have together.”

Sofie is about to argue, about to ask another question, about to tell him that she’s not going anywhere, that they’re going to get through whatever’s coming together. But instead she wanders over to him, never breaking eye contact. She lays herself on top of him and feeling his warmth permeate through her.

“How long do we have?” Sofie whispers the question against his lips, already feeling herself getting excited.

“A couple of hours before it gets dark.” Ashton holds her face between his hands, looking at her like he wants to imprint her features onto his brain. “I’m going to miss you so much.” The words sound like they’re being pulled out of him.

“Even though I don’t know anything about werewolf packs and supernaturals and you don’t like any of my plans?” Sofie looks down into his blue eyes, not asking the final part of the question ‘Will you miss me even if I go and do something that I know you’re not going to like even though I think it’s for the best?’ She doesn’t dare ask the question, because she’s too afraid of the answer.

“I’m going to miss you, especially for all those reasons. You’re not like anyone I’ve ever met, Sofie and you continue to surprise me. I kind of like never knowing what’s going to come next, never knowing what it is that you’re going to do.” Ashton shakes his head at the strangeness of that admission.

Sofie doesn’t say, ‘You don’t even know the half of it.” Instead she breaks the magic of the moment “So…Are you Team Edward or Team Jacob
?

Ashton shakes his head and then grabs her wrists, flipping her so that she’s below him and he’s lying on top of her. “Do you really need to ask that question? I’m a werewolf for God’s sake!” Ashton rolls his eyes at her in mock despair as Sofie giggles like a schoolgirl underneath him. “I love to hear you laugh. It makes everything…easier. It makes everything else fade away, seem unimportant.”

“Are you trying to make it as difficult as possible for me to leave you in a little while? Because that’s what you’re doing!” Sofie covers her emotions with a joke, hoping that Ashton doesn’t see the sheen of tears in her eyes. But her reasons are different from his. Although she’s not planning to be away from him for long, she has no idea what state she’ll be in the next time they see each other. His words echo through her mind, that there’s no way she would survive the transformation. She wishes that she’d never heard his assessment of her capacity for turning, but she can’t unknow it now. All she can do is to follow the decision that she’s made and hope to God that it’s the right one.

“Hey, where did you go?” Ashton swipes a strand of caramel hair off of her face, gently pushing it behind her ear, so tenderly.

“Nowhere, I’m here, with you.” She doesn’t have to lie, she’s back in the moment, back in the bedroom with Ashton, wishing that she didn’t have to leave him, no matter how necessary she knows it is. “Is it always going to be this hard?” She doesn’t elaborate on what she means, she doesn’t have to. Their relationship hasn’t exactly been straightforward from the start.

“Does it matter?” Ashton looks at her, with an openness in his eyes that makes her feel like she can see right down to his soul.

She doesn’t have to think about her answer, not even a little bit. “No. I want to be with you. It doesn’t matter how tough it gets, that’s not going to change.”

Ashton’s eyes soften, as if he had been preparing himself for a different answer and Sofie feels his body relax at her words. “Things aren’t going to be easy for a while, maybe never.” Ashton looks at her earnestly, driving the point home.

“I can handle it.” Her voice is assured as she looks up at the man that she loves. “It’s not like being the girlfriend of an Alpha werewolf was ever going to be simple.” She smiles as she strokes her index finger along his stubbly jaw-line.

“You’re tough, running girl. You’re a fighter, I knew that about you the first time I saw you.” The pride in Ashton’s voice is obvious and she can’t help but feel pleased that he sees her that way. Sofie had never thought of herself as brave, more just used to getting on with life, no matter what it threw at her. “I know you can deal with whatever comes your way.”

The conviction in his voice is almost enough to persuade her that he’s right. But in her heart of hearts she knows that Ashton isn’t willing to see the full picture. She’ll only be able to handle things if she can defend herself, if she can help to protect the pack. If Ashton has to have half a mind on her safety the entire time then somewhere along the line, someone is going to get hurt. It could be her, him, a member of the pack, but there’s no doubt in her mind that it will happen.

“We can deal with it,
together
.” It’s the closest that Sofie’s going to get to telling him what she’s planning to do; that the only way she can be of any use to him is if she’s able to stand with him, side by side. The only way she can do that without someone getting hurt is if she’s like him.

“Together…I like the sound of that.” A boyish grin breaks out on Ashton’s face but then he turns serious. “I’m going to miss you so much, running girl. Every moment that you’re not here, in my arms, is going to feel like the longest time.” He shakes his head as his smile turns bashful. “And believe me, I know how cheesy that sounds!”

But Sofie doesn’t laugh, at the sweetness of his words she feels herself fall in love with him all over again. It’s like an avalanche; the force of her feelings for him hits her like a wall of snow. “It might be cheesy, but it’s also probably the most romantic thing that I’ve ever heard.” Her voice is quiet as her emotions get away from her. She looks up at him from under her thick lashes, wondering how it is possible to want someone so much.

“If you keep looking at me like that, I’m not going to be romantic for long.” Ashton shifts on top of her, so that she can feel his hardness, his desire for her mirroring her own for him.

“How about you show me just how much you’re going to miss me? Give me something to remember you by.” Sofie’s voice is husky as she breathes the words out, watching as the sexy smile spreads across his face.

“Oh, baby, trust me, you’re not going to be forgetting this anytime soon.” She’s about to accuse him of being an arrogant bastard, but she knows that it’s only arrogant if he can’t deliver, and there’s no question of that.

Ashton brings his face down to hers, kissing her hard and making her moan with want just from the pressure of his lips on hers. Her body responds to him immediately, wetness blooming between her thighs. His hands go underneath her shirt, his fingertips skimming her erect nipples, making her shiver in the best possible way. Her pussy throbs with need as she touches his hardness through his pants. She gets a familiar little thrill knowing just how much she turns him on, he’s always ready for her, eager to make love to her. It’s the best aphrodisiac in the world.

Ashton wastes no time, whipping her shirt off and pushing her shorts down, giving him access to her naked body. He pauses, looking at her like he’s drinking her in.

“You’re so beautiful, Sofie Braun.” Ashton traces his finger slowly from her lips swollen from his kisses, down her throat, over her chest and flat belly down to the patch of dark curls at the top of her thighs. “I want to memorize every part of you, touch you everywhere.”

“Do what you want with me. I’m yours.” Sofie’s response is immediate; she doesn’t need to think twice. She trusts Ashton implicitly, there’s nothing that he will do to her that she knows won’t have her squirming with pleasure. Besides, she knows that he’s the possessive type and her confession will drive him insane with lust.

She’s not wrong. Ashton’s eyes take on the hooded look they get when desire takes over and he smiles wickedly at her, looking for all the world like he’s just been given the best present ever. Ashton leans down and kisses her deeply, Sofie responds willingly, sucking his tongue like she would his hard cock. The low moan that comes from his throat tells her how much he enjoys it.

Ashton responds by cupping her pussy, already dripping wet and waiting for him. He strokes her, opening her pink lips and rubbing his thumb over her clit, making her gasp for more. She pushes her hips up, wanting more pressure, but Ashton is playing the long game. He moves his hand up to his mouth and tastes her, keeping his eyes trained on her the entire time.

“You taste so good, baby.” Ashton surveys her body, squirming underneath his, desperate for more attention, desperate for his touch, his mouth.

“Ash, please.” Sofie’s voice comes out low and husky with need. She runs her fingers over his tight abs, pushing his shirt up and off impatiently. Then she starts working on his pants, easing them down over his hips, exposing his long hard shaft. She gasps as she does every time she sees how hard and how big he is. One hand closes over the base of his shaft while the other cups his balls and she hears him groan with pleasure.

“I want to taste you.” She looks up at him, for permission, letting him call the shots.

“Then suck me, baby with that beautiful mouth of yours.” Ashton looks at her expectantly, playing the dominant role. It suits him, Sofie decides, it blends with his Alpha nature.

Sofie slides out from underneath him and kneels by the bed, between his legs. She strokes him insistently, watching as he looks up to the ceiling to try to control himself. She licks her lips, excited at having his cock in her mouth and she sucks his tip, making him gasp. She leans forward, taking him inside her mouth inch by inch, taking as much of him as she can without gagging. She can hear Ashton’s excitement levels rising as she works the base of his shaft with her hand, taking him all the way into her mouth and out again, picking up the pace as she does.

“Fuck, running girl! You’re hungry, aren’t you? Hungry for my cock.” Ashton’s eyes are bright as she looks up at him, nodding, his shaft still in her mouth.

Ashton’s hands go into her hair guiding her to take him even deeper into her mouth. She responds willingly, sucking on him greedily, feeling the way his hardness seems to swell inside of her. But just as she’s about to pick up speed, to drive him towards his climax, he stops her. He pushes her head back gently so she releases his member and looks up at him with her swollen lips.

“Now I want to touch you.” He takes her hand and guides her towards the bed, kissing her neck and nibbling on her earlobes as he does, listening as she whimpers softly. “What’s the matter, baby?” His voice is full of concern but he looks at her knowingly as she blushes. “Tell me.”
