I
grabbed
Eve's
hand
and
we
quietly
walked
down
the
alley,
pressed
as
closely
to
the
wall
of
one
of
the
buildings
as
we
could
get.
So
far
none
of
the
hosts
that
had
followed
the
car
had
found
their
way
back
to
the
gate
we
had
closed
behind
us
.
I felt some relief at the thought that we had a few moments to collect ourselves and find a place to hide.

As
we
walked further,
I looked closely at the
walls
of
the
building
across
the
alley from us.
The
windows
were
barred
and
shuttered,
and there were two heavy steal doors leading into it. On the second story, a heavy metal sign hung over the steel doors that read “
North West
Detention
Center
”.
This
building
was
a
jail
.
I
wondered
how
secure it was.
I wondered if
there
were
prisoners
inside
and
if
so,
if
they were
infected as well
.

As
we
continued
on,
we noticed one of the
steel
doors
that
entered
the
detention center was sitting open.
I
could
see as we approached,
blood was spread
on
the
door jam
and
floor
with
a
trail
leading
down
a
dark
hallway
beyond.
It
looked
as
though
someone
had
been
killed
here
and
dragged
back
into
the
prison.

My
heart
was
beating
fast,
I
was
terrified,
but
I
had
to
find out if it was safe now
.
There
was
no
way
we
would
survive
without
cover.
We
had
very
little
in the way of
supplies,
just
a
few
things
we
had
grabbed
from
the
car as we made our escape. A
little
food
and
water,
a
handgun
with
just
five
rounds, a
knife and
a
flashlight
with
dying
batteries.
Without
supplies
and
shelter
we
were
going
to
die.

     My
hands
were
shaking
as
I
pulled
the
flashlight
out
of
my
pack and shone the light
through
the
gap
in
the
doorway.
I
slowly
made
my
way
through the narrow opening.
Stepping lightly while trying to
avoid
the
blood
on
the
floor,
I
walked
very
slowly
into
the
hall.

Eve
was
just
outside
the
the
door
still
standing
in
the
alley.
She
heard
a
loud
banging
sound
coming
from
the
direction
we had come from
.
S
he
could
see
that
hosts had gathered around the gate. The car had stopped rolling and many
had
found
their
way
back
to
the
alley.
They
were
pushing
against
the
gate now.
There
were
enough
of
them
to
cause
the
gate
to
flex.
They
pushed
harder
and
harder
until.

Shit!!!

Eve
screamed

they
broke
through!!

     I
ran
back
to
the
open
doorway
and
grabbed
Eve's
arm,
pulling
her
through it.
She hit the floor next to me hard, and let out a yelp. I
grabbed
the
steel
door
handle
and
pulled
as
hard
as
I
could
until
it
slammed
shut.

We
sat
on
the
floor
of
the
dark
hallway.
It was quiet now.
the
door
was
thick
and
the
sound
from
the
outside
was
muffled,
almost
to
a
dead
silence.
We
could
faintly
hear
the
hosts
beating
on
the
closed
door
once
they
reached
it.
We
sat
in
the
darkness,
breathing
heavy,
feeling
no
relief
from
escaping
what
was
outside
because
we
had
no
idea
what
was
inside of the detention center waiting for us.

-Into
The
Darkness-

     I looked
around
with
the
dying
flashlight
and
found
some
torn
clothing
lying in a pile on the floor. I ripped it
into
strips,
and
wrapped the pieces
around
the
leg
of
a
chair
that
had
been
smashed.
I
dug
in
my
pack
for
matches
and
lit
the
makeshift
torch.

I knew it
wouldn't
burn
long,
so
we
moved
quickly
down
the
hallway
through
several
open
gates
and
to
another
steel
door.
The
door
was
closed
but
not
locked.
I
held
my breath
and
turned
the
latch,
forcing my weight against it hard. The door gave way,
swinging
open with a loud grinding sound.

     We
walked
into
what
looked
like
a
common
area
surrounded
by
two
levels
of
prison
cells.
There
were
skylights
in
this
area
so
the
area
was
well
lit by the outside light.
We walked into a gruesome scene,
terrifying
to
see.

T
here
was
blood
and
body
parts
scattered
all
over
the
common
area.
Something violent had taken place in here.
What
ever
had
happened
here
had
to have been a
nightmare.
Eve
closed
her
eyes
and
whimpered.

“I’m
going
to
throw up”
she
said
as
she
bent
over
and
started
heaving, supporting herself on the open door jam.

“Fucking u
gly
” I
said out loud.
I
looked
around
trying
to
avoid
reacting
to
what
I
was
seeing.
I
didn't
want
Eve
to
panic,
so
I
stayed
as
calm
as
I
could.
Inside
I
was
screaming
and
fought
the
urge
to
panic myself.
If I stayed calm she might be okay. If she lost it I was a goner.

As I looked over the scene, I guessed that by the way the bodies were laid out and the blood had pooled, several separate attacks had occurred. The state we found the bodies in made me wonder if they were fed on rather than murdered.

Most of the corpses were hollowed out. Internal organs were gone, throats torn out exposing the wind pipe. I could clearly see where some had bled out, and others were likely torn apart and eaten alive.
