Unsettled (21 page)

“We’ll see about that,” and without warning Logan lunged in my direction. I turned wildly and began screaming as if my life depended on it. I started running at full speed with no intention of letting him catch me. My jewelry clanged and my heart was racing. The crisp spring breeze whipped through my hair as I darted toward a grove of trees. Suddenly his arm was around my waist, and in another instant my feet were off the ground.

“No!” I panted. “Please don’t tickle me! I’ll die, I swear!” I begged dramatically as I looked into his eyes. I was amazed at the warmth that I found in them.

“In your case, I don’t believe in capture and release,” Logan said mockingly. He hoisted me higher into his arms and carried me back to the blanket. He kneeled and laid me down gently.

“Since I’m such a nice guy, I’ll give you two choices,” he said as he hovered over me, his arms on both sides of my torso.

“One—I can tickle you until you writhe hysterically as my fingers find every, and I mean every, spot on your precious body that make your nerves spasm…”

“What’s my second option? The first doesn’t sound very appealing,” I said meekly. Heat emanated from his eyes.

“Or we can just do this,” he said, bending down and brushing his lips against mine tenderly.

“I don’t know what it is about you,” he murmured against my mouth, “but I like it.”

Our tongues mingled together as I played in his hair. Logan pulled me closer to him and the traces of his cologne tickled my nose. Just like the last time we’d shared a kiss, I became lost in the ecstasy that his lips provided. My legs fell open as he rubbed against my body, and I moaned in delight. I could feel his growing erection. He moved his lips away from mine and began a journey from the nape of my neck to my ear. I could feel his hand gliding up my calf…and then my thigh. He finally cupped my ass discovering that I was wearing a thong.

“These are my favorite,” he said, snapping the fabric underneath my dress. My hips arched shamelessly at the sensation. I was getting warmer with every touch and caress. My breath hitched when I felt his flingers push aside my barely there panties.

“Oh God…Logan…” I hissed as he palmed me gently. His eager fingers found my most delicate place. We clung to one another as if we hadn’t seen each other in weeks or months.

“I don’t think you should be enjoying your punishment this much,” he whispered as he nipped my collarbone.

“Don’t taunt me” I breathed out. I sounded so needy. I hadn’t felt the deep desire he was bringing me since…two days ago? I was already becoming an addict of his affections. He used the pad of his thumb to rub tiny, enticing circles around my clitoris. I cried out, feeling my body climbing exponentially.

“Shh…let me take care of you,” he whispered. “I won’t stop until you come for me,” he murmured in my ear, and that was my undoing. I arched my back as I climaxed and clawed at the back of his T-shirt, hiding my face in his chest to muffle my sensuous gasps. With every stroke, I felt like I was being suffocated with pleasure.

My mind was still hazy when I felt him slip inside of my wet mound. Instantly my body responded to feeling him inside me again.

“Logan? I don’t know about this…” I said, only half coherent. I wasn’t at all sure about letting him go bareback. I knew the responsible thing was to get tested, or better yet, not be trenching down this road to begin with. If something went wrong there would be hell to pay, and I was already there in some respects.

Logan pulled my chin to look him in the eyes.

“I’m clean. My last test was clean, and I haven’t been with anyone since.” I don’t know why, but I trusted that he was telling the truth. His eyes didn’t lie.

I nodded my head listlessly as my body embraced him opening and stretching my sensitive area.

With no barrier, it was even more amazing than the first time. He slid in and out, sensuously, and all I could think about was sweet release.

“I’m going to lose it. You feel so good,” he muttered through gritted teeth.

“Uh—it’s fine, I’m on the pill,” I responded. After Damon, I swore I’d never be so foolish as to not be on some form of birth control, even if I wasn’t having intercourse. I embraced Logan as he began a slow, rhythmic pattern.

In…out…in…out…

Each thrust pushed me to another level of euphoria. I rocked with Logan, allowing my body to be overtaken by the waves that rippled through my aching core. As his thrusts became more frenzied, I unraveled beneath him, calling out his name breathlessly. Logan’s breathing became more erratic, and seconds later he toppled over the edge.

e broke our embrace when we heard tires crushing gravel on the road. He looked down at me and smiled. My lips instantly missed the warmth of his mouth. My insides cried—I wanted more of him.

“I think we are a little old to get caught making out in a field like high school students,” he said, leaning his head on my shoulder.

“That statement would be true if that was all we did” I stammered. I took a deep drag of air in an attempt to catch my breath. In truth, I felt like a schoolgirl again.

“We’d better go before you start to wither away before my eyes,” I said sheepishly. He leaned down and kissed me one last time. He ran the tip of his tongue over his bottom lip, which was dark red from where I had sucked a few minutes earlier.

His eyes twinkled in the fading sunlight. “My lips taste like…watermelon?”

“Yeah, I can’t shake the habit. I loved Lipsmackers as a kid,” I confessed as he pushed himself up from the grass, then helped me to my feet.

We packed up the light dinner he’d brought and decided to head back into the city before it got too dark. Forty minutes later we were back in front of my house and Logan was walking me to my front door.

“Oh…hey guys!” Alex chirped, opening the front door.

“Where are you headed?” I asked, turning to face her, which forced Logan to let my hand go.

“Jay and I are going to have a night in and play gin. I got roped into running out to the corner store to get some Baileys,” she said, brushing past to get down the front steps. “You know how I have to get a little liquor in Jay if I want to royally take him down and have bragging rights for a while.”

I smiled at her underhanded tactic. Jay was a pretty good rummy player. I was sure he’d manage to swindle at least two hundred dollars from Alex and I from our past game nights.

“Oh all right, well I’ll see you when you get back,” I replied.

As we were getting ready to step through the front door, Alex piped up from behind me. “Logan you should join us. Our game night is nothing fancy, but I think you’ll have fun. B is the queen of rummy.”

“A game of rummy actually sounds fun, but I wouldn’t want to intrude,” he said, shoving his hands in his jean pockets. “Plus, I can’t say that I really know how to play.”

Following in the footsteps of my best friend aka the Queen of Hospitality, I chimed in.

“Sounds like you’re scared of a little competition,” I goaded. “Plus, maybe we can make some secret wagers,” I whispered lowly, so that only he could hear.

“I’m in. Gin sounds better than sitting in my hotel room reading e-mails,” he smiled.

“All right, it’s a double date then! I’ll see you guys when I get back from the store. Do you have a drink preference, Logan?” Alex asked.

“Bombay Sapphire would be awesome. Let me give you some cash.” Logan started to reach for his wallet in his back pocket, but Alex stopped him.

“I got it covered,” she said.

To my complete amazement Logan accepted her invitation to pay without protest.
Where did Mr. Agreeable come from?

“I take it you’re ready to lose some serious money?” I joked as I quickly stepped through the front door. Amusement flashed in his eyes.

He stepped closer to me and wrapped his arm around my waist. “Oh, I think there’s more at stake than money. I’d be a fool to leave,” Logan whispered back, grazing my temple with his lips.

After Alex was out of earshot I turned to Logan, “Don’t think I didn’t notice that you let my roommate pay for your alcohol, which tastes like toilet water I might add, but you hardly let me pay for things when we are out together? What’s the deal with that?”

“It’s really quite simple—I wasn’t interested in Alex, and she most definitely isn’t my girlfriend,” he responded confidently.

My heart warmed a little. I didn’t know what it was, but in a matter of days Logan was turning me into a big pile of human mush.

“Hey B, how’s it going?” Jay asked as he sat on the couch clicking the remote control for the television.

“I’m good. Jay. You remember Logan,” I said, reintroducing the two.

“Hey man, nice to see you again,” Logan said, extending his hand to Jay.

I left Logan and Jay to their own devices while I went into my bedroom to change into my favorite pair of jeans and a fitted short sleeve tee. I really wanted to get a shower to wash off the stickiness from my earlier activities with Logan, but thought it would be rude to leave him alone with Jay for too long. I pulled my hair into a ponytail as I walked back to the living room to rejoin the guys.

I rounded the kitchen corner to find Alex setting the bags of alcohol on the counter.

“Well, they’re getting along swimmingly,” she said, pulling the Bombay out of the black plastic bag.

“Yeah I know, it’s kind of weird, since they barely know one another,” I replied as I pulled the ice cube tray from the freezer and started dispensing the crystalline squares into glass tumblers.

“What’s the deal with you guys now?”

I smirked in her direction. “We’re seeing where it goes, but I’m still deathly afraid of getting hurt again,” I confessed.

Alex gave me a half smile. “Just ride the waves, B. If he’s for you, then it will be.”

“What women’s mag did you steal that line from?” I asked, as I refilled the ice tray and stuck it back into the freezer.

Cosmo
, of course!” Alex reveled.

“Spare me,” I cried. Between horoscopes, homemade facial cream recipes, and surveys, Alex was a walking advertisement for the magazine line.

Alex sauntered out of the kitchen into the living room with the guys. I heard her tell them to get ready to lose their money and Jay groaned in response.

I shook my head at Alex’s antics. Since Logan and I hadn’t actually got around to eating dinner as planned, I decided to pop a few appetizers in the oven. After I put a baking tray full of mini tacos in the oven, I headed out of the kitchen to join the rest of the group with the drink glasses and alcohol in tow.

“Here we are sir, one order of toilet water as requested,” I said, placing the bottle on the table. Logan laughed as he unscrewed the top and poured himself a drink.

“Man, I don’t know how you drink that,” Jay said, motioning to the bottle. “That right there is some rough stuff.”

“Acquired taste I guess,” Logan said, shrugging his shoulders.

“Okay Jay—Logan is a newbie so go easy on him,” I said, taking a seat next to him. I knew full well that Jay had absolutely every intention of taking Logan through the ringer.

“Don’t worry…I know how to play nice with the other kids,” he said, winking. His mischievous smile gave away his lie. Jay never relented in any challenge.

Alex took the deck of cards and shuffled. I swear in her past life she was a card shark in Vegas. As she cut the stack she explained the rules to Logan.

Logan leaned over to me. “What have I gotten myself into?” he asked, shaking his head in disbelief at the long list of rules and regulations that went along with the game.

“Well then this might be a bad time to tell you that we play for money,” I said. I took a sip of water. “Don’t worry, it’s only single dollars though. I’m sure you’ll be fine,” I said, smirking.

“Dollars!” He threw his hands up in the air like I just said the buy-in was a thousand. “I’m out, too rich for my blood,” he joked. He amused me with his modesty.

‘’Don’t worry—you’ll get the hang of it. I’ll help you,” I said. I picked up the seven cards that Alex dealt and started to organize them. “Just remember: every face card is worth two dollars, and suit cards are worth one.”

“So the first thing I like to do is organize my cards by suit. That makes it easier to see what you’re holding,” I coached.

“Okay, like this?” he asked. His leg rubbed mine when he leaned in to show me his cards. His touch reignited my sensation from earlier. I wasn’t sure why but it seemed like every time he was near me, he evoked some type of emotion from my body. I pulled my leg away from his, clearing my throat. “Yep,” I answered.

“Really babe? You couldn’t give me any better cards? How am I supposed to win with this crappy hand?” Jay moaned.

“Oh please—quit your bellyaching! Maybe I’ll actually win for once,” she retorted.

Even though we weren’t playing for hoards of cash, I could tell that Logan didn’t like to lose. Every time it was his turn he rubbed his hand across his forehead. Even with liquor in his system Jay still held his own. I had to hand it to Logan though; he could tolerate Jay’s incessant trash talk. Anyone that could deal with that over the series of a few hours deserved an accolade.
