VAMPIRE: PARANORMAL: Out For Blood (Vampire Alpha Shapeshifter Romance) (New Adult Paranormal Fantasy Short Stories) (50 page)

The next couple minutes were spent in silence as everyone either got food on their plate or waited.

“Are you four leaving right after dinner?”

“Yes.” Bill answered. “I’d like to get this done and over with as soon as possible.

“We’ll just need to… dig some stuff out.”

Jenny looked up at her dad. “Are you going to find those wolves?”

“Yes.”

“I want to come with you.”

“No Jenny, it’s not safe for you.”

“Paige’s allowed to go.”

“Paige heals fast.” Paige reminded her little sister, speaking in third person as she cut into her stake.

Jenny scowled but she didn’t object. “You’re going to be out numbered.”

“It’s alright.” Bill smiled. “I know you’re all worried and I’m sure it’s very hard for you to not be able to come with us, but our odds are better than we thought they would be when we called Paige. She brought two hunters home that we weren’t expecting.”

Paige felt a blush burn her cheeks.

They finished their meal in less than half an hour. Bill pushed himself to his feet. “Well, are you three ready to get this underway?”

“We’ll be like ten minutes.” Markus stood, Ben followed and they made their way outside and to the truck.

The let the tail gate down and Markus hopped up onto it. He unlatched the canvas top and pulled it back. They kept their bags in here whenever they weren’t in a hotel room, just to be safe, so it took a couple minutes of unpacking before Markus pulled out the werewolf bag and passed it down to Ben.

“Never thought I’d be doing with is.” Ben commented.

“What, helping a werewolf defend his land, or helping your werewolf girlfriend’s dad defend his land?”

“Both.” Ben shrugged dropping the bag onto the tail gate and unzipping it. He pulled out their two favorite guns for werewolves and a small silver box. They’d wanted to be safe when they picked the box for the silver bullets.

Markus manoeuvred his way back to the tail gate and dropped down onto his knees. “But it kinda feels right, doesn’t it?”

“Yea.”

It was all the conversation they had. But it was enough to make them both realize how much Paige meant to them.

Paige took a deep breath trying to calm her nerves. The windows were down, blowing wind into the truck and Paige felt like she was a little girl again in the front seat of the pickup truck with her dad.

It was dead silent. Markus and Ben sat in the back seat, their guns in their laps and the wolf was raging to get out of Paige. She could smell them. The wolf wanted to chase them off her land.

The scent grew stronger as they neared an old farm house.

“This must be it.” Bill slowed the truck down as they came to the drive way.

She saw three people perk up as they made their way down the driveway.

The truck came to a stop and all four doors opened at the same time. Paige took a deep breath. They smelled like they were ready for a fight, not talking.

Paige did her best to smile at the man in front of her. His eyes roamed over her, a sly smile spreading over his face.

The look he gave her threatened to send chills down her spine. Ben stepped close to her, his shoulder brushing against hers.

His eyes locked on the man in front of them.

“Can we help you?” A woman spoke from the porch.

Paige turned to face her. She was thin with short brown hair and a dirty blue dress. Her feet were bare and her legs mud stained.

“Yes.” Bill stepped forward. “We’re not here to cause any trouble. We’d just like to talk.”

The girl looked him up and down, a snarl curved over her lips. “We’re not looking to expand our pack.” Paige felt anger flare inside her. “You’re on my land.” She stepped forward.

The girl turned her attention to Paige, looked her up and down and snorted. “Then you better leave, pup.”

Paige took the stairs to the porch. “No.” She ignored the insult in the term “pup” and locked eyes with her. Thirty seconds passed in their stare down but Paige still wouldn’t look away. She wouldn’t show her submission to this bitch.

“You have the night to get off my land and never come back.” Her eyes threatened to blink but she wouldn’t let them. The girl snorted.

“Or what? What are you going to do, make me leave?” She looked Paige up and down before letting out a snort.

“Or I’ll rip your fucking throat out.” Paige hissed lunging towards her.

The girl let out a scream as they fell to the ground. Paige’s hands tangled into the girl’s hair and yanked as the wolf threatened to take over. No, she wouldn’t let it.

She heard gun shots. Her heart pounded in her chest. The wolf threatened to break free. The girl under her screamed reaching for Paige.

Paige let out her own scream as she felt her leg break. No. The wolf wouldn’t take over. She couldn’t kill this girl or any of them.

She grabbed the girls’ hair, lifted her head and slammed it down onto the wood under them.

Someone grabbed her from behind, pulling her away from the girl. She felt his rough hands seconds before he tossed her away. She felt herself hit the hard ground. Dirt smoked around her. She coughed and hacked as she tried to push herself up.

Bill’s eyes caught sight of his daughter rolling to the ground. “Paige!” He shouted,

It was just enough time for the man in front of him to land a blow. He stumbled back clutching his jaw.

“Fuck,” He cursed turning his attention to the fat hairy man in front of him. His fists clenched as he lunged towards the man.

Ben landed on the ground. He rolled towards the gun laying there. The man stepped towards him. He was thin but very strong. When he kicked the gun away it flew a good three feet before landing.

He bent down and picked Ben up by the neck.

Ben gasped for breath as he felt the man pressing against his wind pipes.

The girl dropped down. Her fingers tangled into Paige’s hair and pulled her up. She hadn’t wanted to do this but it looked like she didn’t have a choice.

Paige let herself get dragged to her feet. She balanced on one leg as the wolf threatened, no begged, to be freed.

Paige’s hand slipped behind her back and pulled out the knife Ben and Markus made her take.

She waited, her eyes closed as the female pulled her to eye height. “You were stupid to think you could come here.”

“No,” Paige gasped. “You were stupid.”

Their eyes locked as the girl snorted, her grip tightening on Paige’s throat. Now. The wolf screamed as she jabbed the knife into the girl’s stomach.

The scent of iron filled her lungs right away. “Stop!” Paige screamed. “I’ll fucking kill her!”

Everyone stopped what they were doing. Everyone stared at her. She took in the scene around her. Ben was being pinned down, her dad was being choked, Markus seemed to be holding his own against one of them, and two had been shot in the knees and were out of commission.

Paige took a deep breath. “You have until the end of the night to get the fuck off my land!” Paige’s voice threatened to stop working for her. She ripped the blade from the girls’ stomach and pushed her forward. “Get your wounded tended to and get out of here.” She hissed as she limped off the porch and made her way towards the truck, trying to ignore how much pain she was in. Her knife was still at the ready in case she needed to use it. As she looked around, she realized not a single wolf, other than her father, would look her in the eye. She couldn’t help but grin a little as she pulled the door open. Ben gave her a weak nod as he closed the distance between him and the truck. She waited until he was inside before she slid into the seat.

The other pack flocked towards their alpha.

“Are you okay?” Bill dropped down beside her daughter.

“Yea… I’m fine.” She looked at her father. Blood dripped down his nose. “Are you okay?”

“You shouldn’t have stepped in like that.”

“You wouldn’t have been able to hit her.”

“I didn’t want to hit anyone!”

“Dad, we all know those guys didn’t want to talk.”

Everyone was tired but, weirdly, elated. Paige knew the other werewolves would slink off and find some other sucker’s land. This was the first time in her life when she felt she was exactly where she should be. Her father, Ben, Markus and she were a great team. They had really bonded tonight. She felt like she had finally found what she was looking for all her life. She sighed happily.

Her father didn’t say anything as he gunned the engine and they pulled out of the driveway and drove off together into the sunset.

CHAPTER ONE

It was a typical Friday night at the bar. And for Violet, it had been a long night. The regulars were being as loud and rude, as usual. A few stray customers from outside of town peppered among them.

In a small town like Ridgelake, you knew everyone and everyone made it their business to know yours.

Violet was born and raised in Ridgelake and was a familiar face around town. She dreamt of leaving one day -she just hadn’t hatched a plan yet. Violet was headstrong and always had been. She had her mom’s looks and her dad’s spirit. At the tender age of 21, she turned plenty of male heads throughout the town. She was a stunner. Her hair was a rich auburn color, which made her pale green eyes seem to pop and her enviable curvaceous figure was noticed by both the guys and girls. She was short. But her ample breasts and round ass were always perfectly accentuated by the clothes she chose to wear. She wasn’t the type of girl to fade into the background

She was lucky, because her big brother Derek looked out for her. Other men were too afraid to make a move on Violet, in case they wound up with a broken jaw. Which was fun in some ways for Violet but not in others. Her love life always took a nosedive due to Derek’s temper.

He was cute and although the girls didn’t queue up to date him, he did all right. Violet always tried to tell him this was so unfair. He did well with the fairer sex and because of him; she missed a lot of opportunities with men.

Violet was just wiping the tables down at the end of her shift, when she felt someone staring at her. Without turning around she shouted, “We’re closed Frank goddam it, go home.”

“Who’s Frank?” a male voice asked,Violet spun around and looked towards the door.

“A regular who I’ve just thrown out! I thought he’d come back I apologize sir, but we are closed.” The mystery man stepped closer towards her and she could make him out clearly.

He was around 6’02” so he dwarfed Violet’s short frame as she only stood at 5’3” He was dressed in cowboy boots, tight black jeans and a black button up shirt. His hair was dark and one piece fell forward into his face. He swiped it out of the way and looked shyly at Violet. It was his eyes that hypnotized Violet, even more than his perfect physique.

They were the palest blue eyes she’d ever seen, and as cold as ice to look at.

“I can assure you I’m not Frank,” the stranger chuckled.

“No, sir you’re certainly not,” Violet giggled and felt herself redden.

“Pardon me, I’ve embarrassed you little lady.”

“Wow, lady, I’ve never been called one of those before. You’re not from around these parts are you?” It was a bold question to ask someone she’d just met.

“I’m from out-of-town it’s true, but was just passing and thought I’d pop in. I didn’t realize the lateness of the hour.”

Violet thought for a moment, she didn’t want this mysterious stranger to leave, “I’m going to grab a coffee before I go home, would you like one?”

“I’d like that very much, thank you sweet lady,” he replied, flashing her a perfect smile displaying white teeth that almost dazzled her with their brightness.

“Well, you just sit right there and I’ll make you a coffee.”

She could feel his gaze upon her as she walked away to the kitchen. She was glad she’d worn her sexy skinny black jeans today, they clung to her curvy hips and ample ass in a way that made men follow her down the street. Teamed with a black v-neck top that barely contained her large breasts, she felt very confident this man would be attracted to her. She didn’t want a flipping cup of coffee but it was all she could think of to persuade him to stay for a while. Violet just had to discover more about him. He was the first guy in a long time that’d caught her attention in the quiet sleepy town she called ‘home.’

As she came back with the drinks, she’d noticed he’d removed his jacket to reveal a plain white t-shirt, and an exceptionally well-toned body. You could see a lot through clothing if you were looking in the right places.

He caught her adoring gaze and she felt herself blush yet again.

“I seem to make you blush easily, I’m sorry little….by the way what’s your name miss?”

“Violet, and I embarrass easily sir,” she whispered, not at all sure why she was whispering. “What’s your name? If I may be as bold to ask?”

“You’re so polite your parents obviously raised you well, I’m Kellen.”

“Kellen, I like Kellen it’s unusual.”

“And I like Violet, quite unusual too.”

She went to pull a chair out to sit down opposite him and he leapt to his feet. He ran around to grab the chair from her, “Allow me young Violet,” he said, as he gave a flourishing bow and pulled the chair out for her.

“Thank you kind sir,” she laughed.

Violet had never experienced a true gentleman like this before; it was as though Kellen was from another planet entirely.

“Have you worked here long?” he asked trying to make polite conversation.

“Since I was 18, I’m studying to be a veterinarian. This job helps me pay for my tuition.”

“So you must be what early 20’s now?”

“Yes 21 to be precise,” she guessed Kellen was older than she was; he looked older with his ruggedly handsome face.

“A mere youngster, I’m in my thirties.”

This excited Violet, she liked older men. Guys here own age were so childish. She had no interest in them, but they had plenty of interest in her much to Derek’s distaste.
