What's Yours Is Mine: An Alpha Billionaire Romance (Cerise Preston Story Book 1) (7 page)

“Oh god,” Cerize thought to herself.  “I really hope he doesn’t want to talk about a relationship.  I’m certainly not looking for that.  Why can’t men just leave well enough alone and enjoy things the way they are without getting hung up on terms and conditions?”

“So what I’d like to discuss with you is…” he leaned forward in his chair, looking at her intently, “the possibility of…taking over the responsibilities that Constance held for the company.”  Cerise resisted the overwhelming urge to close her eyes and breathe a sigh of relief, wondering how she could be so profoundly relieved and yet a bit disappointed at the same time.  “With a significant raise in pay,” he added, before she could respond.

“Constance had responsibilities here?” Ceri was astounded.  “What did she do?”

“She audited the books, kept track of clients and contracts, gave oversight to operations as a whole,” his lips formed a thin line at the thought of his ex-wife’s scheming treachery.  She was clearly cut from the same cloth as his father, and hers.

“That makes so much sense,” Cerise murmured, lost in thought.  That’s how the bitch knew about her relationships with clients and probably figured out what she was doing in terms of a takeover.  Ceri had thought she was subtly setting the stage and had actually been watched the entire time.  She wondered if the ever-vindictive Constance had mentioned her suspicions about Cerise Preston to Blake during the divorce.  Apparently not, if he now wanted to entrust her with oversight responsibility.  He was, for all intents and purposes, handing her the keys to the kingdom.  The thought occurred to her that she could achieve her goal of taking over BVR without having to hurt Blake.

“What do you think?” his mellow voice intruded into her thoughts.

“Ummm…” she shook herself, coming back to the present. “That’s a lot to take in,” she said slowly.  “Give me some time?”

“Of course,” Blake smiled guilelessly, looking as though he considered the matter already resolved.  “Take as much time as you need.  I’ll be handling oversight while you decide.”

Shit.  Blake wasn’t stupid, if he started looking into the records carefully enough, he might begin to see the things that his bitch of an ex-wife had seen.  Cerise made the snap-decision to take the promotion he was offering, in addition to her recruiting efforts.  She would either take BVR over as planned, or not – that decision didn’t have to be made right away.  She would see if Blake Hamilton was really as sweet as he seemed, and in the meantime, she’d continue to make both of them ridiculous amounts of money.  Either way, it was a win for her.

“You know what, I really don’t know what there is to think about…you’ve got yourself a deal,” she put on a bright smile and offered her hand to shake on it.  Blake took it and kissed it.  Life was about to become very interesting.
