Chapter
Ten: Rhys

One week later…

I made it home, and when I walked in it was like déjà vu. I smelled food and spotted Summer cooking breakfast in the kitchen. I was tired of the breakfast at the hotel, so I decided to opt out of it this morning, making a nigga hungry as fuck.

“Hey baby,” I said dryly, not sure how
this
argument was gonna go down. “I can pick Bryleigh up from pre-school all next week.”

“Hello and thanks,” she replied as if she didn’t have a care in the world.

“What are you making?”

“A scramble, would you like one?” she looked up from the skillet to me, and half smiled. I kissed her lips gently, and then kissed her shoulder wound. No matter how many times we fought, kissing her never got old.

“Yeah, I want one.” I sat down at the bar after I removed my hoodie. “Where is Bry?”

“She’s with my parents, they wanted to take her shopping.”

“I just took her shopping.”

“You took her toy shopping, Rhys, they’re taking her for clothes.”

“Kids don’t like clothes,” I chuckled and so did she. When I was younger, I hated to open a gift on Christmas morning to see an outfit. I wanted toys!

“May I ask where you were last night?”

“I spent the night in the hotel, I texted you that last night, Summer.” I could barely have a regular conversation with her before she got to interrogating me.

Taking my business phone out, I scrolled through the information my father sent me on some people he needed me to take out since they’d done some dumb shit. I shook my head as I read one of the names, because he was some young cat that my dad had helped. He was living on the streets in Dorchester, and my dad took him under his wing. I guess since he was just one of the young runners, doing small tasks, he felt the need to turn on my dad. Now, he was about to die at only twenty.

As I prepared a killing schedule for him and a couple other victims, I heard light sniffling. I sighed while standing up, and then went to the bathroom to piss and clean my hands. I came back into the kitchen, and hugged Summer tightly from the back. As soon as I did, she began sobbing even harder. Turning the burner of the stove off, I made her face me and hugged her tightly.

“Who is she?” she hollered into my chest as I rubbed her back.

“Summer, there isn’t anybody but you! Damn! Don’t get upset over—”

“Don’t get upset? Don’t get upset over the fact that you didn’t come home, and the fact that you make it obvious you were out cheating on me!” she pushed me backwards, and I rubbed from my baldhead down to my beard.

“Make it obvious? How the fuck am I making something that is completely false, obvious?”

“I spent the night at the hotel,” she mocked me. “Whenever it’s that vague it’s a lie.”

“Summer, I’m at that hotel every damn night almost! And this is why! Don’t act like the hotel room is new shorty! Don’t do it!”

“Stop always fucking yelling, Rhys!”

I took a deep breath and then sighed heavily. “So what you want me to do?” I yanked her back to me and then kissed her lips a couple times, sensually. I just really didn’t want to argue. I loved this girl, but I was starting to forget why.

“Get rid of her and any other bitch that you feel the need to fuck with, Rhys! I swear, in a minute I’m gonna be the one not coming home.” As soon as ‘home’ left her lips, I had her hemmed up against the cabinet next to the stove.

“Do that shit and it’ll be the last thing you ever do,” I gritted. “And like I said, ain’t nobody to get rid of, baby. I love you Summer, even though you get on my damn nerves a lot, I love the fuck outta you. Can’t you feel that?” I frowned and she shrugged. “We need to get along better, baby, that’s all I want,” I whispered.

“Pay more attention to me then.”

“I will.” I groped her ass in my hands while tonguing her down. I craved her crazy ass.

She began unbuckling my pants as I ripped her panties off like they were nothing. Running my fingers across her wetness, I could feel how ready she was, which only made my erection grow.

“I missed you,” she said as I lifted her up slowly.

I brought her down onto my dick, and slowly pumped in and out of her. We were sucking one another’s lips, and moaning like this was the best shit we’d ever felt; and it was. Summer and I may not have gotten along well, but we always made it happen sexually.

“I missed you too, I love you,” I groaned as I continued to pump into her. She had that perfect combo, being tight and wet. You could hear her gushing on my rod miles away, and the shit was driving me crazy! “Damn.”

“Mmm, shit, Rhys.”

A few more hard, long, pumps, and I was nutting all in her body. We both shivered lightly as we attempted to come back from our orgasm. Our chests were rising and falling against one another as we kissed like long lost lovers. This was the type of shit I wanted to come home to, not her running her mouth and accusing me of shit I wasn’t doing.

“This is what I miss, baby,” I let her down and pecked her soft, full, lips. “If we can just stop arguing, we will be good. I don’t want these girls, only you.”

“I think we can make it work if you come home more, and control your anger, Rhys. I told you that you scare me sometimes.”

“I don’t have any fucking anger issues, Summer! See, you ruined the fucking moment with that bullshit!” I barked and rushed off to the back, holding my pants up.

These days I felt like we were beating a dead horse in this bitch.

Chapter
Ten: Matikah

Kimberlyn and I were supposed to go get our nails done together, but since she was a bit under the weather, I decided to go alone. I usually would have waited, but I was in need of a pampering immediately. If I waited any longer, I was sure that Lendsey would start to notice. I would be mortified if he did.

I walked into Treasured Nails on Boylston, and was instantly greeted by my nail technician, Trisha. Trisha was really bomb, so bomb that Kimberlyn, Goldie, and I all followed her whenever she moved. She’d been here for the last two years though, which was good. However, as soon as she left, so would the three of us.

“Okay, come soak your feet, honey,” Trisha smiled and shook the remnants of the water off of her hands.

I did as she asked, removing my sandals and submerging my feet into the water. It was the perfect temperature, not too hot and not too cold. While I soaked, Trisha turned on the back massager so I closed my eyes.

“That’s what I told the bitch,” some girl spoke loudly as she entered into the nail shop.

She looked black, but also looked to have a bit of Spanish in her blood. Her body was tight, and she knew it, which is why she barely had any clothes on. My body was one to turn heads as well, but home girl could be in videos. Throwing her long dark brown hair over her shoulder, she spoke to one of the other ladies named Linda, before she and her friend took a seat one chair away from me.

She and her friend continued to talk to one another, as I just watched Trisha start to remove my nail polish. My phone buzzed, and I saw it was Lendsey calling, causing my skin to get hot and my heart to beat faster.

“Hello?” I answered.

“What you doing, shorty? I finished what I had to do earlier today.”

“I’m getting my nails done.”

“Who you getting ya nails done for?”

“For you, honey, who else?” I giggled like a little schoolgirl as I nodded my head ‘yes’ to one of Trisha’s questions.

“Better be, ma. And thank you because you cut the fuck out of my leg last night when you kicked me in your sleep. Make sure she cut them bad boys down, I almost backhanded ya ass.”

My jaw dropped as I attempted to contain my laughter. I prayed he was joking, but with Lendsey you never knew. I would always be scared to laugh because sometimes he would be serious. One time he told me his friend’s cologne was so strong that it gave his aunt an asthma attack. I laughed but he was dead serious and I felt bad.

“That was so mean, I need to go home anyways this weekend.”

“No you don’t. The pain is worth it. But aight, hit me when you’re done, I have to go get stitches,” he sighed.

“Fuck you,” I laughed before hanging up on his rude ass.

I felt the two girls looking at me, so I glanced over out the corner of my eye. They didn’t say anything, so I just diverted my full attention back to my phone so I could reply to a text sent to me from Goldie.

“So is he still tripping?” the friend asked the Spanish one.

“Yes, but you know how Lendsey is, girl. He gets mad but then comes right back home where he
belongs
,” she replied, and my stomach dropped upon hearing Lendsey’s name. I looked over and she was watching me out the corner of her eye. “I like the color you picked out,” she grinned and pointed to the bottle that was sitting next to Trisha.

Trisha looked up at me with a worried expression. Trisha and I were like friends, and she knew all about my new boyfriend that I was gone in the head for. By saying that, she was floored like me to hear Lendsey’s name come out of this chick’s mouth. There weren’t too many niggas named Lendsey.

“Thank you, and did you say Lendsey?” I furrowed my brows.

“Yes, why?” She began putting her long hair into a messy bun on top of her head, wearing an innocent expression.

“Lendsey what?”

“Lendsey Quinton, again, why?” she cocked her head.

“Don’t tell me you’re messing with him?” the friend flared her nostrils at me, as she and the Spanish chick stared me down angrily. I swallowed the humungous lump in my throat when I saw Lendsey’s name tatted on her left breast.

“Well I am. I mess with him heavy, and all night. Looks like he won’t be coming home to you anytime soon,” I fake smiled.

“Oh, he was home earlier this week. I’m not sure where you were though. Then again, like you said, you only get him at nights.”

“No, I get him all day, and I’m not about to believe shit that comes out of your mouth, hoe. Don’t mention Lendsey again unless you wanna get fucked up!”

“Little girl, who the fuck do you think you’re talking to? Dania is Lendsey’s bitch and always has been, where did you come from?” her friend hissed. Hearing her say the name Dania brought me back to the day Lendsey’s phone was ringing.

“I came from the gutter, meaning I won’t hesitate to fuck either of you up over my nigga. Now like I said, don’t mention Lendsey. And Dania, stop blowing him up when I’m with him. I had to take his phone one day because you just couldn’t take a hint.”

The stare she gave me let me know that if she could kill me and get away with it, she would. I could tell from looking at her that she was in love with Lendsey. Her anger was a mixture of jealousy and broken heartedness. It made me wonder if I’d broken up a happy home, or just taken a man from a woman he was never gonna fully give himself to. I would find out though.

For the duration of the rest of my visit, Dania and I exchanged no words. By the time I was done, I felt like a new woman, and I immediately got into my car to call, Lendsey. He’d bought me a nice ass Infiniti Q70, and I was grateful to not be on foot any longer. I felt some type of way about accepting gifts from him so early in the relationship, but he said if I didn’t take it, it would just collect dust because he wasn’t returning it.

“Yo! Fuck you blowing me up for, shorty? I told you I don’t like that,” Lendsey finally answered as I pulled into the driveway of my grandmother’s home. She’d been on Kimberlyn and I about not coming home and shacking up with TQ and Lendsey, so I wanted to show my face.

“I saw Dania at the nail shop today.”

“And?” he asked with an attitude.

“She told me you came
home
to her earlier this week.”

“You sound dumb.”

“You must think I’m dumb, Lendsey! Did you fuck her this week? Have you been fucking her?”

“Nope!”

“So she just made that shit up,” I scoffed and shook my head as I checked out my freshly waxed eyebrows in the sun visor mirror.

“Pretty much.”

“Bye Lendsey.”

“Bye baby.”

I hated how nonchalant he was about the shit. As I sat in the car staring at my grandmother’s house, I remembered I promised him I wouldn’t be so paranoid. He was probably being short because I’d lied and broken the damn promise already. Removing my phone from the cup holder, I dialed him back.

“I’m sorry,” I sighed.

“You good, ma, be at my condo in an hour, aight?”

“Aight.”

I got out of the car and went inside so that I could see my grandmother. She was sitting in the living room, watching tennis like she always did. I smiled as I watched her sigh and suck her teeth when the girl she was rooting for kept fucking up. I made my way over slowly, and then plopped down next to her, prompting her to look over at me. Seeing her face light up made me sad. Kimberlyn and I had really been neglecting her, and I was gonna be sure that we stopped. I felt like she needed us, and even though we were with Lendsey and TQ, we needed her too.

“Well I thought I would never see you again,” she set her bowl of soup on the coffee table. “Would you like some?” she asked.

“No, I’m okay.” I shook my head and sighed lightly. Lendsey and Dania were still on my mind, making me feel some type of way.

“What’s wrong?”

“It’s Len.”

“Already? What happened?” she frowned before sipping whatever was in her glass. It appeared to be apple juice.

“I think he’s cheating on me, and the worst part is, I think it’s the same girl every time.”

“Meaning he has feelings for her.”

“Exactly.”

“Why do you think that, Matikah?”

“Because he was late picking me up one day, and Lendsey is a very prompt guy. He’s never late and he always follows through. Then today at the nail shop, some girl that I remember calling his phone was in there discussing him. I don’t know, maybe I’m just being extra because of his history.”

“There is this thing called women’s intuition, Matikah. If you feel in your gut that he’s really being dishonest, he probably is.”
