And with him.
“I love you,” he whispered, the words foreign to him, yet escaping him all the same.
Maggie kissed his chest and said nothing in return. He didn’t take offense. He knew it was all very sudden. But that didn’t change how he felt about her. He held her tighter to him, never wanting to let her go.
“Yer fierce, Maggie,” he said softly, his love of her growing. “Yer beautiful and yer mine.”

aggie entered
the kitchen of the coffee shop and laughed as she spotted Kennard there, in a pink apron, holding a wooden spoon out while Josefina sampled whatever he had in the large pot. The man loved to cook.
They spoke to each other, paying her no mind. She shook her head. Her husband spoke many languages and had hit it off with the cook nearly instantly. Maggie’s Spanish was slow but coming along, thanks to Kennard’s patience with her. She touched her slightly swollen stomach and smiled, enjoying the moment. They’d been a couple for several months and she’d never been happier. Her life was finally right. Finally what she’d always hoped it would be.
Kennard had bought the building her shop was in and the ones next to it as well. Making sure no one else was paying more than they should. He’d even had the apartment over the shop renovated though they wouldn’t be there much longer. Their new home was nearly done being built on the same land her trailer had once been on. Kennard and his cousins had blessed the land, cleansing it of the death that had occurred there and giving it a fresh start.
And she was all about fresh starts.
She’d had to stop hunting demons the moment she’d learned she was expecting. Thankfully, the paranormal activity was dying down to its normal level now. Maria often tagged along with Kennard whenever he went out to look into anything that came up.
Her husband stopped what he was doing, his gaze snapping to her and to her hand on her stomach. He handed the spoon to Josefina and covered the distance of the kitchen in three long strides. He drew Maggie to him. “The wee one?”
She grinned and patted his hand. “Is fine. But I think I felt him moving.”
No sooner had the words left her mouth than the baby she carried began to kick and flutter. Today was the first day she’d felt the baby do such a thing, and being able to share the moment with her husband meant the world to her. Emotions washed over his face and she knew he was struggling to remain looking manly. “Aye,” he managed before bending before her and kissing her stomach.
He stood and kissed her gently as well. She ran her hands over his apron-covered chest and laughed. “I’m not sure pink is your color.”
“I’m guid with my manhood. I do nae care what color I wear.”
Liam entered, not bothering with pleasantries as he went right for Josefina, speaking to her with ease as well, clearly interested in what she was cooking. Maggie was happy to see him. He’d been gone months already and she hadn’t been aware he was visiting again. He glanced over his shoulder at Kennard and raised a brow. “Nice look you’ve got goin’ there, cousin.”
Kennard palmed her stomach. “The babe is kickin’.”
Liam grinned. “We O’Cahas tend to be a rowdy bunch.”
Laughing, Maggie leaned against her husband. “When did you and Cillian get back into town?”
“Just me,” said Liam. “Coyle called Cillian, askin’ him to come. But he dinnae say why. Only that he and Korey required him at once.”
Kennard stiffened. “Is all well?”
Liam shrugged. “Grandmother told me I was to come here and stay close to the two of you.” He then ran a hand through his long hair, unease settling over him. “And I’m to watch over the other one.”
Maggie’s hand remained on her stomach as the baby continued to move. “What other one? The baby?”
“’Tis a given on that one, Maggie,” said Liam, still appearing unsettled. “Grandmother demanded I keep an eye on Maria as well. Though, I do nae know why.”
Maggie had to cough to hide her laughter. Maria and Liam were like oil and water. Before he’d taken off shortly after Athol’s attack, Maria had tried to convince her aunts to curse him with impotence because he kept trying to come on to her. His time away probably had done little to cool Maria’s temper with him.
Kennard found the ordeal amusing as well. He laughed and bent, kissing Maggie’s temple. “I fear yer friend may kill my cousin.”
“Oh, I’m sure she will,” added Maggie with a snort.
Liam cupped himself. “I’m afraid she’ll follow through on her last threat and see me unable to get a hard—” He glanced at Josefina and blushed. “You know.”
Kennard snickered and hugged Maggie to him. “I should call and make sure all is well with Coyle and Korey.”
Liam stopped holding himself. “Somethin’ is amiss there, but we’re nae to interfere. Grandmother was clear. Our place is here for now.”
“I cannot wait to meet your grandma,” said Maggie.
Kennard paled. “Och, the last thing I need is the two of you teaming up. Yer handful enough, lass.”
She smiled. “I know.”
