He stopped, turning to face her. “Shall we make a wager on who will succeed first?”

Color rose in Celia’s cheeks. “There are no cards you can count.”

“I still like to win,” he informed her with a leering smile.

“Do you?” she murmured, her eyes lighting up.

“My darling, you know I do. And you are by far the greatest prize I have ever won.”

“I am not a prize to be won,” she declared indignantly. “I gave myself to you quite freely.”

Anthony laughed, pulling her into his arms. “And that is what makes you so valuable.”

She frowned at him. “I don’t want to be taken for granted. Perhaps I should make you pursue me a bit more.”

He smiled, holding her closer until her breathing hitched and she put her arms around his neck and lifted her face for his kiss. “And I would,” he whispered against her lips. “To the ends of the earth and back, my love.”
