“I worked with him once upon a time.”
Abby looked up, her brow low in confusion.
Zane threw the covers off them, leaving them both naked to the night air.
“You didn’t do anything to put me in danger. It was going to happen sooner or later.”
Abby caught her lower lip in her teeth. He might be right, but it had happened sooner because of her.
“However, you did drug me.” He landed a slap on her naked ass.
“Ouch!”
“You didn’t trust me.”
Slap.
“You baited a trained killer.”
Slap.
“And you walked into a trap because he wasn’t going to let either of us go. And you knew that.”
Slap.
Abby groaned.
God, what is wrong with me?
She was enjoying this punishment far too much.
“In my defense, there was a plan.”
“Hmm, I heard about that. Not really a plan. More of a throw everything at him and hope.”
“It saved you, didn’t it?” Abby tried to roll off of him, but Zane held her still with his hands on her butt.
“Getting a little handsy there, aren’t we?” Abby snarked.
“Yep, I like playing with my ass.”
“Perhaps your head was hit hard when you fought, ’cause that’s clearly my ass.”
The smile slipped from Zane’s face, and the possessive look in his eyes caused heat to pool low in her stomach.
“My ass.” He slapped it. He turned slightly, giving him access to the front of her. “My pussy.” He cupped her mound. “My tits.” He stroked her nipples. “My woman.” She didn’t have time to react as Zane caught her hair to the side and bit down through flesh and muscle.
“Zane!” The pain flashed through her mind before she screamed out as an orgasm ripped through her body.
“You’re mine now, Abigail Short. Mine to love and fuck and protect. We’ll have babies together, and you’ll be the best mother.”
Shudders racked through her body. She’d never come so hard in her life.
“Did you just mark me?” she asked when she could control her voice again.
“I did.”
“Didn’t feel like asking?”
“When I leave things up to you, someone ends up unconscious.”
“Ha, ha, very funny.”
Zane rolled, changing their positions. With a slow thrust he sheathed his cock into her waiting heat.
Abby sucked air in through her teeth, closed her eyes, and arched her back. “Goddamn, Zane.”
“Yes, baby? Oh, do you want me to stop?” He twisted his hips, pulling another groan of pleasure from her.
Abby opened her eyes and glared at him.
“You stop, kitty, and I can guarantee someone is going to end up unconscious again.” She all but snarled at him.
“I love it when you talk dirty.” Zane smiled.
Abby wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him in deeper. He felt so good in her, against her. She’d nearly thrown it all away because she was stupid.
She placed her hand against his face, and looking deep into his eyes, she smiled. “I love you, Zane.”
Zane gave her a lopsided smile. “I love you too.” He kissed her, so sweetly it nearly broke her heart. “Now if you don’t mind,” he said when he pulled away. “I’m kind of in the middle of something here.” He thrust forward.
Abby wrapped her arms around his shoulders. “Please, don’t let me interrupt you.”
“Oh baby, I can’t wait to hear you scream my name again.” Zane laughed. Abby really hoped her parents weren’t in the house because this was going to get embarrassing.
Abby sat out on the back porch of the Hillside pack house. It’d been a month since Stevenson had kidnaped Zane. She’d been worried there would be repercussions, if not from the shifter world then from the police. But Zane had assured her the police wouldn’t even know Stevenson was dead. When he’d died, he’d been in lion form and that meant he stayed that way. There would be no human body for the police to track.
They’d headed back to the city and her apartment and had been working on combining their companies together. Zane had insisted, claiming he couldn’t cope with the thought of waking up unconscious again. She’d tried to explain you couldn’t wake up unconscious, but he’d just thrown her over his shoulder and headed to her room.
Zane was a traveler, never staying in one place too long, so it hadn’t taken him long to settle into her life and home. Her room it might have once been, but it was theirs now.
“How’s mated life treating you?” Laney asked as she dropped into the empty seat next to her.
“Good. More than good.” Abby grinned.
“I’m glad.”
“Thanks, cuz.”
“I actually hate you, and if you don’t stop following me, I’ll skin you alive!” Karina yelled as she came around the side of the house followed closely by Duke.
“Might not have been the best idea to bring Karina with you.”
“Yeah, I tried to change her mind, but she spoke to Clara who insisted apparently.” Abby shrugged.
Laney shook her head. “That she wolf is up to something.”
“She is,” Abby agreed.
“I’m not leaving you alone for a second. You can’t be trusted around my family,” Duke yelled back.
They disappeared into the house, yelling at each other. Zane came out looking over his shoulder.
“Your brother is yelling at Karina,” he said to Laney as he pulled Abby out of her chair, sat down, and pulled her into his lap.
“My brother is an idiot.” Laney shrugged.
Abby tried to come off of his lap, but Zane held her still. “Zane, I’m too heavy,” she whispered.
Zane just looked at her with a raised eyebrow and waited. Finally Abby sighed and relaxed back.
He’d been working on her self-esteem—they both had. But sometimes she still felt like the fat wallflower guys had to be drunk to sleep with.
“So, Laney, congratulations. How far gone are you?” Zane asked.
The cousins looked at each other. Abby was sure the shock on Laney’s face was reflected in her own.
“What?” Laney asked.
“Err…” Zane looked between the ladies. “You’re pregnant, I can smell it.”
“You can smell that?” Laney asked with a calmness Abby wasn’t feeling.
“Yeah, Heath didn’t tell you?”
“No, he didn’t.” Laney spoke through gritted teeth. “Wolf boy!” Laney yelled, coming out of the chair. “I’m going to kill him.”
Abby and Zane watched her storm into the house shouting for her mate.
“Oops.”
“I can’t believe she’s going to be a mother.” Abby grinned. “Heath is a dumbass for not telling her as soon as he knew.” Abby turned and gave him a quick kiss. “At least I know you wouldn’t do something so stupid.”
The smile on Zane’s face slipped. “I might be that stupid.”
“Zane?”
“Baby, just pray it’s not twins.”
