Minka
was sitting on the bed drinking her orange juice and watching Wendy Williams when Micah walked in the room with his gym clothes on. She continued watching TV like he didn’t just walk in the room. Micah sensed she had an attitude but he didn’t know why. They were good last night and this morning she was acting stand-offish.

Minka knew she was falling head over heels with this man and in order to protect herself she needed to step back and distance herself from him but it was so hard. She wanted to spend every waking moment with him and cuddle but she knew eventually this roller coaster would stop and she would have to get off and get back to reality. A reality she was growing tired of.

“Yo
, what’s wrong with you?” Micah questioned raising his voice. He didn’t like to play games and Minka seemed like she was playing one.

“Nothing
. I’m just not feeling it today.”

“Look
Minka, I’m not one of them niggas that play games. I know what I want and I get it. I’m not going be chasing you around like some weak nigga while you do you. I’m all in, are you?” Micah laid it out there. He was young but he wasn’t about to play mind games with her like they were in high school.

“Yeah
,” Minka answered quietly.

“Prove it.”

“How am I supposed to prove it?” she asked confused.

“I'm gonna show you
. Come on.”

Micah and Minka pulled up to the Harry Winston Jewelry Store on Rodeo drive. Minka knew his jewelry and she also knew you needed an appointment weeks in advance to come. It was that exclusive.

“Boo
, you need an appointment,” Minka warned Micah.

Micah ignored her and got out and opened her door to help her out. He walked in the store
and straight to an Italian man with black hair and a fine tailored suit.

“Franco
, long time no see.” Micah broke his silence.

“Micah
, what brings you in? Who is this beauty?” Franco took Minka’s hand and kissed it.

“This is
Minka. Minka this is Franco,” Micah introduced. “Franco, remember that ring we designed a while back for the one?

“Eh...I see
. Is this the one?” Franco asking once he pulled out a small case. Micah nodded with a smile and Franco clapped his hands, excited. Micah and Franco walked over to the side to talk while Minka stood by the counter reading a text message she just received from Austin.

On rodeo drive?
I see you finally got a man to take you out instead of just to a hotel, you whore
.

Minka
looked around feeling an uneasy that Austin knew where she was. Her heart started to pump as she looked around and outside to see how he knew where she was. At this moment she regretted ever knowing Austin. Minka was so busy looking around she didn’t hear Micah calling her name.

“Come here
, baby.” Micah called Minka over to where he and Franco were standing. Then Micah dropped to one knee and opened the box. Minka had tears in her eyes. The text message from Austin slipped her mind completely when Micah got on his knees.

“I know it’s early and we just met a few months ago but I want you to know what I feel is real
. We can learn to grow together and right each other’s wrongs. We don’t have to get married today. Tomorrow or next year but as long as I know it’s in our future I’m satisfied. Will you marry me?” Micah asked opening the box with a two carat, emerald-cut diamond set as a ring with tapered baguette side stones and a platinum setting.

`
“Oh my god BABY! This ring is so gorgeous, YESS! YESS!” Minka screamed and kissed him. The proposal was spontaneous which summed up her life, so it was only right Micah proposed in that manner. Minka was so excited and hoped she didn’t make a mistake accepting his proposal so soon.

“I can’t believe you did this
! We need to plan a trip to my grandparents ASAP.” Minka said rambled on.

“I got practice
, Ma, so you go tell them. Send them my regards and bring your pretty ass back to me as soon as possible.” Just then, Minka’s phone chimed.

Minka
s, Miami tomorrow. Gala for the autism awareness
.

Minka
read the message from George’s assistant. It was perfect timing.

“I’m going to leave tonight or tomorrow morning.”

“Whatever you wanna do, baby, is fine with me but you gonna break me off with some before you leave,” He insisted doing the ‘Stevie J.’ smile.

“Shit
, you might get more than that. I’m wifey for lifey,” Minka waved the ring in his face, quoting Yvette from the movie
Baby Boy
.

“You crazy, bae.” Micah pulled off towards their home.

Chapter Eleven

Minka laid in the spare bedroom of her grandparent’s house. She had took the red eye the night before and instead of going to her condo, she went to her grandparents. She really didn’t want to be alone with the freak, Austin, harassing her. Minka decided to do Face Time with Micah. She had only been gone a couple hours and she already missed him so much.

“Make my morning
, shorty.” Micah gave Minka that nickname because of her small stature. She lifted her shirt and exposed her breasts.

“Damn
, when you said you coming back again?” Micah asked.

“In a week I’ll be back
. I’m going to New York to check on my condo. I also want to tell my girl the good news.”

“Baby
, off subject, but what do you do that you have all these properties and you’re flying all over?”

“A
trust fund,” Minka lied, knowing her money her grandparents gave her was long gone.

“So
, I’m gonna be marrying a trust fund brat?”

“Yup
, with a shoe addiction. But I got to go babe, Gram is making breakfast.”

“Shoes
ain’t a problem as long as that’s all your addicted to…Ight. Love you.”

“I love you
, too,” Minka said for the first time and actually meaning it. Minka walked in the kitchen to the smell of fresh blueberry oatmeal and cinnamon toast. She came in late so she hadn’t seen her grandmother yet.

“Good morning
, Gram.”

“I thought that was you
, Minkas. Why you here?” Edna kissed her favorite granddaughter.

“To show you this.”
Minka flashed her ring.

“That man proposed to you? He is a good man and I can see he makes you happy. You know what he does right?”

“Yeah, Grams, and it was foul you didn’t tell me.”

“It’s a lesson learned. Sometimes love happens by accident, when you least expect it. You can't prepare for it, you can't be ready. It just happens
. Now, make this work and love that man like I know you can. Make sure you fill his stomach and empty his balls.” Edna chuckled at her twisted humor,

Grams that is too much information. I don’t need to be talking about this with you.”

“Child
, why you think your grandfather is still around? I know how to take care of my man.” Minka laughed at her grandmother.

Minka spent the entire morning and afternoon with her grandparents. It was so refreshing to be with her two favorite people in the world. Her grandparents often told her they were lucky to be blessed at another chance at raising a daughter but Minka felt she was blessed to be raised by her grandparents. She could have had a horrible life with drugs, sex and other things but she lived a normal life with so much love, care, nurturing and she never wanted for anything. She was blessed to experience that when so many other kids didn’t.

Minka and George sat talking at their table at the gala. She enjoyed his company and the ten carat tennis bracelet he got her. She sold the bracelet Austin bought her. She felt it held a bad memory and she didn’t want to wear it.

“George,
did I tell you I got engaged?” She said waving her hand in his face.

“Good lord
, who is this lucky man? I’m happy for you, Minkas, you deserve it. And taking from that ring, he could take care of you very well, I see.”

“Yes
, he can. I can’t keep accompanying you or keep our little arrangement going on either. I’m sure my fiancé wouldn’t like It.” she smiled.

Minkas, I’m an old man. You never judged me and you always came through when I needed you. You deserve to be happy. And don’t worry about the condos, they will still be paid like always.” George winked at her.

“Thank you
, George.” Minka leaned across the table and kissed him on the cheek.

In the far corner, Sasha sat with her iPhone out catching a photo and saving it on her phone. She was there with her
sponsor, Walton Andrews, the CEO of Citibank. To say he was paid would be an understatement. Sasha had to get money wherever she got it from. True, she had her own company with her sister but it didn’t afford her to drive a Lamborghini or Porsche. She would be damned driving a two year old leased BMW like her sister. What Donovan didn’t know couldn’t hurt him. Not like she cared about him, anyways, she just needed him to be close.

Later that night, Minka lay in bed at her grandparents’ house with her gown and heels still on. She had a nice evening with George. He had sent her home early and deposited a hundred grand in her account as a wedding gift. She would miss that old man. He was a  sweet person and never degraded her. He always treated her with utmost respect. Minka was staring at the ceiling when her phone beeped indicating she had a message.

Let’s stop playing the games, Miami here I come.

She threw her phone on the night stand. She needed to put this to a stop with Austin and she didn’t understand why he was harassing her when he had a wife. She knew one thing. She was not going to allow him to humiliate her anymore. She was going to be Micah’s wife and, one day, the mother of his children. She couldn’t keep living the life she was living. If she wanted to be treated like a wife she needed to act like a wife. She didn’t want to reveal what she did to Micah, so she figured if she stopped that way she would never have to.

Chapter
Twelve

Ashley had just come back from a romantic weekend in Atlantic City with Juelz. She and Juelz had been getting along and falling in love all over again and she was enjoying it. He upgraded her car and re-did the whole apartment. Ashley was able to scale back on how many hours she worked at the hospital, so she could spend more time with Ashland. Ashley was in the kitchen cooking brunch while Ashland and Juelz were at the park when someone knocked on the door.

“Hold on
,” Ashley yelled, while putting the muffins in the oven. Then she walked over to open the door.

“Hey
, Ash. Remember me, your best friend?” Minka said pushing her way into the apartment.

“What are you doing here
, Minka?” Ashley replied trying not to stutter.

“I came to tell you the good news in person
. I’m getting married!”

“What? Wow, who is this man and why haven’t I met him?”
Minka went to sit in the living room and took a seat, she needed to fill her girl in on what had been going on. She looked around the apartment a little confused.

“You redecorated?
Since when? I thought you liked it before.”

“I did but people change and I needed one.” Ashley murmured being inexplicit about the real reason.

Right after Ashley’s statement Juelz and Ashland came through the door and if looks could kill Juelz would be dead. Ashland ran to Minka and she hugged and kissed her godson. He had gotten so big from the last time she saw him and he was so cute. She looked at the Gucci outfit he was rocking from head to toe and she didn’t remember buying him it.

“Go play in your room
, baby, Auntie will come in before she leaves.” Minka kissed him before he ran off to his room.

“Really
, Ash? Like you couldn’t tell me you got back with this bum nigga?” Minka stood up. She was ready to go.

Minka, you’re not gonna disrespect my man in our house. I know I should have told you and I regret that I didn’t, but it happened and I love him. I can’t change how I feel and I damn sure not going to because you said so. You’re traveling all over and now you’re engaged. Am I not supposed to be happy or am I supposed to wait for you to come around and want to be bothered? Sometimes I don’t hear from you in weeks and this time months. I get a text saying ‘I’m alive’ and an occasional selfie. That’s all I get. I’m a single mom with a little man to raise and he needs his father. I can’t be selfish and deny Ashland of that because of how you feel.” Ashley stood firm on her beliefs.
