“So, topping a more dominant wolf would be wrong?” Axel asked.

Bayden nodded. Humans thought it was wrong, even if wolves didn’t. He’d been around enough clubs to know human men thought it was a big thing. And no matter how much Axel might act like a wolf at times, he was a human, and that made the way humans thought about things important.

“You topping me would be wrong?”

Bayden managed another nod.

“What about me topping you?” Axel moved around Bayden until he stood directly behind him. He lined up their bodies. “Would that be wrong?”

Bayden shook his head. It was impossible to think of anything more right. It took all his strength not to push his arse back against Axel’s crotch in a blatant demand to get on with it.

Axel moved one hand upward. Pressing underneath Bayden’s chin, he encouraged him to drop his head back until it rested against Axel’s shoulder, rendering his neck completely exposed.

Bayden tightened his fingers into fists at his side as Axel wrapped his other hand around Bayden’s cock. He didn’t squeeze, didn’t stroke, he just left his hand there. In a bet, it would have been mildly annoying. Right then, the temptation to hump his palm was almost all consuming.

“What else do you like?”

Bayden swallowed. “Blow jobs, sir.” That wasn’t dangerous information, was it? Bayden wasn’t sure anymore.

“Giving them and getting them?” Axel started moving his hand around Bayden’s erection, pumping him hard and determined.

Bayden shook his head. It was impossible to keep his hips still a moment longer. As Axel went back to teasing Bayden’s nipple with one hand, Bayden thrust firmly into his other hand.

“Which do you like, pup?”

With Axel? The answer was easy. His mouth literally watered at the prospect. “Giving, sir.”

Without any way of facing Axel, Bayden had no way of knowing if his answer pleased him. He just knew that he wanted it to please him, he wanted everything he did to please Axel in a way he’d never wanted to please anyone before.

When Axel’s hand suddenly disappeared from Bayden’s world, he kept thrusting forward, pushing his cock into the empty air.

“That’s enough.”

Axel didn’t put a hand on him to tell him to stop. Just the words. Bayden whimpered as he fought for self-control. It seemed to take him years before he was able to still himself, but he eventually managed it.

“That’s good, pup,” Axel murmured to him. Relief rushed through Bayden.

Axel’s left hand had been toying with Bayden’s nipples the whole time. Now, he abandoned that in favour of turning Bayden around to face him.

Instinct kicked it. Bayden tilted his head back. If he’d been able to meet Axel’s gaze, he might have been able to explain the move away as something other than what it was. As things were, it was impossible to disguise it as anything other than a request for reassurance in the form of a kiss.

Axel dipped his head, but stopped just short of bringing their lips together. Bayden’s breaths were ragged. He couldn’t hide that any more than he could have concealed his erection. If he leant forward a fraction, he’d be able to kiss Axel, but he didn’t. Even when he realised Axel never intended to do anything other than tease him with the prospect, he couldn’t bring himself to demand what he wanted.

“Good, pup,” Axel whispered again. He ran his tongue delicately along the seam between Bayden’s lips, encouraging him to open his mouth in offering.

Bayden swallowed rapidly and complied. It was an almost kiss, it hovered on the edge of reality, making Bayden desperate to be kissed properly, increasing his craving rather than sating it. Eyes closed, all Bayden could do was try to savour the scraps he was offered and be grateful for them.

Axel was doing something with his hand, but Bayden was too distracted by his hopes of a real kiss to work out what, until slicked fingers slid between the cleft of his buttocks.

He shuffled his feet further apart on the bare floorboards as Axel began to prepare him. Most guys didn’t bother with that if they knew they were going to be screwing a shifter. Not needing to care if you hurt someone was practically the point of sex with a wolf, wasn’t it?

Those times when he’d been with another wolf had been different, but they were always conducted in a race against instincts. There’d always been the risk of humans catching them off guard. If there was no intent to hurt, there’d always been haste.

As Axel broke the not-quite-kiss, he moved to stand at Bayden’s side. That gave him better access to work his fingers deeper inside Bayden’s hole. Bayden found himself unable to raise the words to explain to Axel that he didn’t need to fuss over him that way.

Axel twisted his fingers inside him, pressing the tips against Bayden’s prostate, making him gasp. He was used to being ridden hard and rough, he wasn’t used to a guy who made him want to push back against his fingers and howl with pleasure before they even got started. It wasn’t what he’d fantasised about so often, but it was its own kind of perfection. Axel was doing whatever he wanted. Bayden was accepting it. Everything else was just a minor detail.

Bayden gasped for breath as Axel’s fingers worked quicker inside him, taking him right to the edge. He bit back a protest as Axel took his fingers away. It was only the thought of having them replaced by Axel’s cock that allowed him to stay quiet.

Axel pushed down on Bayden’s shoulder. He willingly dropped down to arrange himself on his hands and knees right there in the middle of the living room.

“No.” Axel tugged on his shoulder until he knelt upright.

Bayden hesitated, no longer sure he had a firm understanding of what would please Axel.

Axel took a condom out of his back pocket.

“You don’t need to, sir,” Bayden blurted out.

Axel undid his fly and freed his cock. Bayden barely caught a glimpse of the long, thick shaft before Axel covered it with latex.

“I know there are rules in the club, sir. But we’re not in the club.” He spoke faster and faster, as he realised that Axel really intended there to be a barrier between them. “Wolves can’t carry human illnesses. We—”

Axel hushed him. It wasn’t a harsh sound, but it made it very clear he wasn’t interested in the information Bayden was trying to provide.

Axel stepped forward and offered the tip of his condom covered cock to Bayden’s mouth.

Bayden fought against the urge to squirm. Prepared and ready to be screwed hard and deep, he was impatient to get on with it, but, if Axel wanted to start with his mouth, that was fair enough. He had that right. Even if Axel wasn’t willing to discard the condom, he still had all the rights.

Bayden parted his lips. Axel smiled at that, so it hadn’t been a stupid move. Axel pushed forward, sliding his cock between Bayden’s lips. Determined not to betray how impatient he was, Bayden leant forward, more than ready to show he was willing to please a more dominant wolf in any way he preferred. He moved his tongue against the underside of Axel’s cock and dipped his head lower, doing his best to work out what Axel would love best.

“No, pup.”

Bayden faltered, not sure what he’d done wrong. Sliding one hand through Bayden’s hair to cradle the back of his head, Axel held him still as he thrust into his mouth.

He wasn’t being rough. His movements were controlled. Bayden couldn’t help but like the way Axel’s cock filled his mouth over and over again. If he could have tasted Axel, perhaps it would have been different, but all he could taste was latex. As the minutes passed and Bayden realised that Axel didn’t seem to be starting off in his mouth as much as staying there for the whole show, his mind was overtaken by one fact.

He wasn’t offering Axel anything. He wasn’t sucking Axel off or even going down on him, not really.

Axel was just using his mouth to get off. There was no skill on Bayden’s part—there wasn’t even any resilience required.

While part of him loved it simply because it was Axel, and while Bayden’s cock remained as hard as ever, his mind raced. What could he have done wrong to make Axel want so little from him, to make Axel refuse to let him do something more than hold his mouth at the right height and keep his teeth covered?

He kept looking up at Axel, but it was impossible to read his expression, especially when Bayden found it so difficult to meet his gaze for more than a second.

Submission meant respecting the more dominant man and letting him have his own way, but in those minutes, Bayden had never found it harder to let that happen, to offer someone so little, to just kneel there and let someone believe he was capable of so little. In a bet, it would have been a relief. But Axel was right. This was nothing like a bet.

A beating would have been easier to take than just kneeling there and being so bloody useless.

Bayden’s body railed against the restrictions. He wanted to be screwed, to go down on Axel properly, to show him what he could do, to offer him the whole world and prove that a wolf could please him. But, he just knelt there, trapped and useless. It was all Bayden could do to keep back a whimper.

Axel’s rhythm sped up. He pushed deeper into Bayden’s mouth as he came. There was no need to swallow—no opportunity to swallow. Bayden just knelt there as Axel stepped back and took his cock away. Axel walked over to the other side of the room and dispensed with the used condom. Bayden wiped his lips.

It was supposed to have been perfect. Axel was supposed to have been so impressed he’d want to keep him there forever. The reality couldn’t have been further from Bayden’s fantasy if one of them had been aiming for that. More off balance than ever, Bayden remained on his knees in the middle of floor and waited for an order.

Axel didn’t make him linger there very long. He even offered him a hand to help him off his knees.

It was because Bayden wasn’t used to humans. That had to be it. Bayden peered up at Axel, desperately trying to work out what he’d done so wrong to make things go so badly. “I don’t understand, sir,” he finally admitted.

Axel didn’t call him an idiot. “There’s nothing to understand. You said you’d do as I ordered. And you said you’d accept whatever I wanted to do. That’s what you did, right?”

Bayden nodded. It was all true, but it didn’t feel right.

“You said you didn’t have any preferences,” Axel reminded him.

It had been a lie. Bayden hadn’t known it at the time, but it had been a lie. He’d wanted so many things. He still wanted those things. He looked down, not sure what to say, how to explain a realisation he didn’t really understand himself. He folded his arms across his chest. His cock was still hard, but any idea of pleasure had already disappeared from his mind.

Axel pointed Bayden toward a door. At least that was a simple order. Bayden couldn’t screw that up. He opened the door. It led into what was obviously Axel’s bedroom. Bayden looked around the space, but he had no idea what to do with himself. At the end of a bet, he was sent on his way, and it was all very simple. If he hooked up with a wolf, that lasted until the more dominant wolf was satisfied. It hadn’t occurred to him that he had no idea what to do in a scene that would last longer than it took someone to get laid.

Axel was obviously done with him for the day.

“Should I go home and come back tomorrow, sir?” Bayden asked.

“You’re staying here. I told you that earlier.”

And now Bayden had made it sound like he hadn’t been listening. Anxiety trembled inside him. Everything he did just seemed to make things worse.

Bayden glanced across at Axel just in time to see him start to strip himself down. Humans could be funny about being seen nude. The more dominant ones were rarely completely naked in the back rooms. Not sure if he was allowed to stare, Bayden turned his attention to the room. There was one bed, a large double. There was a rug alongside it.

Seeing that made everything click into place. Axel wasn’t inviting him to stay the night. He was just keeping him convenient. Maybe he’d want something in the night, or early the next day. The situation wasn’t as impossible to understand as he’d feared. Bayden nodded to himself, pleased to have it straightened out in his head.

Axel sat on the edge of the bed next to the rug. Bayden risked a glance in his direction.

“Come here.”

Bayden knelt on the rug in front of Axel, just on the edge of his space. Axel didn’t offer any correction. Bayden’s guess about where he’d be spending the night had been accurate. Axel even stroked his hair as if pleased he hadn’t had to spell it out for him.

“Any questions?”

There were so many questions in Bayden’s head he didn’t know what to say. He couldn’t lie about it. Axel didn’t like it if he lied, and there were already too many lies between them. He grabbed a question at random, one that seemed safer than most of the others. “Do you prefer me to stay human, sir?”

“You usually sleep in your wolf form?”

Bayden’s mind raced as he realised it hadn’t been a safe question at all. It was a stupid question. The last thing he should be doing was throwing his wolf side in Axel’s face. Of course he should sleep human. Only an idiot would ever think otherwise.

“Why?” Axel asked. Bayden glanced up. Axel seemed curious rather than disgusted. “Is it more comfortable?”

Bayden shook his head. “Just habit. I can sleep human, it’s not a problem.”

Axel frowned. “That’s not the whole truth.”

Bayden hesitated.

“Remember what I said about expecting honest answers to my questions?”

Bayden managed not to flinch. “It’s warmer, sir,” he admitted.

Axel looked from him to the rug. “I wasn’t intending to let you freeze down there, pup. You’ll sleep in the bed with me.”

Bayden shook his head. “I didn’t ask for that, sir.”

“Can you control your shift in your sleep?”

Bayden nodded.

“Do you want to sleep in my bed with me?”

That was a far harder question to answer.
Tell me what you want, and then accept that I might not grant you any of it.
Bayden closed his eyes and forced himself to nod again.

“Then what’s the problem?”

Bayden looked up, very briefly. Axel still didn’t seem pissed off. “There’s no problem, sir.”
