MALCOLM IV
Known as ‘the Maiden’, he was born on 20 March, 1141/2. He succeeded his grandfather David I as King of Scotland on 24 May, 1153, and was crowned soon afterwards (the date is unknown) at Scone Abbey, Perthshire.
Malcolm IV is said, with reservations, to have had the following
illegitimate issue
:
1  Henry (
d.
1152 sic.). His existence rests only upon very obscure evidence, and he has perhaps been confused with King Malcolm’s father, Henry. The date of his death, 1152, is impossible, as his alleged father was then no more than 11 years old.
MALCOLM IV
He died unmarried on 9 December, 1165, at Jedburgh Castle, and was buried in Dunfermline Abbey, Fife.
He was succeeded by his brother William.
