Lily squeezed Shelby’s hand as the award nominees were read for best supporting actress in a musical. It was Lily’s first nomination and she was up against some heavy Broadway actresses in the category. As the card was pulled from the envelope Lily’s heart stopped for a split second as she heard her name called.

Looking at Shelby in disbelief she stood and with a gentle shove from her co-star began the walk to the stage. Climbing the steps, she accepted the award in shock and moved behind the podium. She’d written out her speech the day before, so she quickly glanced at it, then picked up the award and faced the crowd.

“I had something written out in order to not miss anyone but it doesn’t seem right to use it somehow. So, here goes nothing.” A laugh from the crowd brought a smile to her face and she zeroed in on Shelby’s beaming smile as she spoke. “To everyone who worked on the show a big thanks. You know we wouldn’t get it done without the writers, director, producers, dressers, makeup artists, and the backstage crew. I also want to thank my co-stars because without them the show would be pretty boring.” Another round of chuckles allowed Lily to take a deep breath, “And finally, I want to thank my on stage Mama, Shelby Bishop. Without her I’m not sure how I’d get through the show each night. So thank you, Mama for that swift swat on the ass every night. I know it’s because you love me the same way you know I taunt you because I love you.”

As the crowd broke into applause, Shelby wiped a tear from her eye. Leave it to Lily to thank Mama as well as Shelby in her speech. Hoping that the backstage press wouldn’t be too bad, Shelby settled back in her seat and waited for Lily to return. Her award wouldn’t be announced until later that evening, but win or lose Shelby knew that she had hit Broadway gold with her baby.

“It looks perfect,” Shelby put her arms around Lily and kissed her gently.

“I never thought my Tony would be on a shelf with your Tony awards,” Lily whispered still in awe. “I wish you would have won too, Shelby.”

“Next time,” Shelby smirked. “Besides, we nailed it with our number at the awards tonight and the after party was perfect.”

“Yeah,” Lily had to agree. “The after party was fun. Even though you wouldn’t let me have any champagne.”

“You’re not twenty-one yet, Lily.” Shelby’s sternness was offset by her smile.

“Technicalities,” Lily smirked and stood on her tiptoes to kiss Shelby on the lips. “I’ll be twenty-one someday.”

“But you’ll always be my baby,” Shelby bent to kiss Lily gently.

“And you’ll always be Mama,” Lily held Shelby’s hand tightly. “But tonight I think big Lily wants to have some fun with Shelby.”

“Well then,” Shelby pushed Lily back onto the bed. “Who am I to argue?”

The Art of Discipline: Dani's Discovery
(with Stardawn Cabot)

Yet another tragic event befalls Danielle Ryan, and she is forced to return to her uncle’s bookstore upon his sudden death. Uncle Sean was her only living relative and now that he’s gone, she has been left truly alone. While settling his affairs, however, she is unprepared for the life-altering ex
perience she encounters when she finds her match in her uncle’s store manager, Emma Gray. Emma invades Dani’s life in surprising and unexpected ways, bringing not only discipline, but love—two things that Dani desperately needs.

All is not perfect, though, and fate hands them another twist when Emma’s biological father gets into the mix, catching both Emma and Dani off guard and threatening to end their happiness. Afraid that their newly created bond will be shattered, they have to buckle down or risk losing everything.

Fighting to keep each other safe, Emma and Dani learn not only how to work together, but more about each other and the blossoming love that has formed between them as well. Throughout it all, Emma continues to broaden Dani’s horizons, opening her eyes to just how much she’s been neglecting herself and helping her to discover trust, domestic discipline, and what it really means to be family. Will their newly found relationship and trust in each other be enough, or will Dani give up and run all the way back to Chicago?

The Art of Discipline: Running Toward Trouble
(with Stardawn Cabot)

After all that they have been through together, and in spite of Dani’s increasingly bratty behavior, Dani and Emma’s love grows stronger and steamier every day. Emma continues to spank Dani when necessary, slowly but surely helping her realize that their love is for keeps and running away when things get tough is not an option.

When Dani is contacted by an old family friend, who turns out to be part of the Italian mob, she discovers a past and a “family” she had forgotten long ago. This family becomes more important when Emma's extortionist father takes things too far and directly threatens their lives. Forced into hiding, they find refuge and acceptance with Zio Frankie and Zia Toni.

Although Dani’s new family is fun-loving and warm, life in hiding is tough on both women, especially Dani, whose restless personality resists the rules that have been put in place to keep her safe. Once Emma discovers that Dani has repeatedly broken those rules and has put her life in extreme danger, Dani knows she deserves the worst spanking of her life. But even if Emma can again follow through and provide the discipline she needs, will it be enough to ever stop Dani from running toward trouble?
