“I’ll
wait.”

***

Rob sat at the
bar, watching Tommy throughout the rest of his shift. Most of the
people approaching the bar tried to avoid catching Rob’s eye, but
he wasn’t having that. Not from people he’d lived and worked
alongside his whole life. He quickly engaged them with the usual
farm matters he tended to discuss with people from his father’s
generation, and they all seemed relieved not to have to mention the
whole gay “thing”.

It was kind of
what he’d expected, but nowhere near as awkward for Rob. No, they
were the ones who were awkward, and he didn’t have to let that
touch him. They’d get used to it sooner or later, anyway. Once him
and Tommy had been together for years and years... but that really
was getting carried away, wasn’t it?

Watching Tommy
took up most of his attention, though. Seeing the way he glided
around behind the bar, like he had castors fitted to the bottom of
his shoes, was the biggest tease ever. The clothes he was wearing
were totally unfamiliar, but Rob loved the way the tight black
jeans moulded to his legs, and the dyed hair and piercings kind of
made sense now Tommy had an assortment of leather jewellery and a
purple T-shirt on.

And as the time
drew closer to closing, Rob couldn’t calm his body’s reactions
down. Every time Tommy glanced his way a pulse of blood rushed to
his cock. Every smile and wink got him harder and harder. He
couldn’t even get up to go and tug a quick one off in the toilets,
as everyone would be able to see his predicament the moment he
stood. It was torture, that’s what it was.

And Tommy had
to bloody well know exactly what he was doing. Bending over like
that to get into the bottle fridges and sticking out his arse. He
could have crouched. Would have been better for his back, really.
Definitely would have been better for Rob’s ability to keep control
of the raging storm of testosterone currently threatening to shut
down all higher brain functions. It was as much as he could do just
to drink his pint without drooling everywhere.

But finally
last orders were called, and half an hour later the pub closed.
Molly, the landlady, let Tommy off staying behind to mop the floor,
tipping them both a wink as they bounded out of the door. Tommy
bounded, anyway. Rob was having problems walking with carrying what
felt like a bloody great fence post down the front of his
jeans.

Tommy had
waited for him outside. “So, you fancy a swim or what?”

“Or what.”
Rob’s voice came out sounding gruffer than he’d ever heard it. He
cleared his throat and tried to smile through the nervous
excitement. “But we can have a swim on the way to the cove.”

“I like your
thinking.”

The moon hung
low in the sky, fat and orange, and the chill night air held a hint
of the autumn to come. They walked in silence most of the way, but
it wasn’t uncomfortable. Rob just enjoyed the simple pleasure of
Tommy’s hand in his. The bats were out in force, flitting overhead
and feasting on the juicy insects like the swallows had during the
day.

“It’s so good
to be back,” Tommy sighed as they crossed the high field. “Missed
all this in London.”

“Don’t know how
you coped with all that noise and stink.” Rob had been there once
on a school trip, and had vowed never to return.

“You get used
to it. Anyway, you can talk about stink. What about this place
during muck-spreading season?”

“That’s a good
clean smell.”

“If you say so,
farm boy.”

Rob kissed him
to shut him up.

Down by Quarry
Lake the air was warmer, still trapping the heat of the day. Rob
stripped off quickly and efficiently, but as he stepped out of his
trousers it was to find Tommy watching him.

“You not
getting undressed?”

“Just enjoying
the vi— What’s that? Shit, I think someone’s here.”

Rob whirled
round, and gave a nervous laugh when he saw the lit up cave
entrance. He hadn’t realised it would look this bright once the sun
had set. “It’s fine. You’ll see.”

“What have you
been up to, Carver? As your boyfriend, I demand to know.”

“As your
boyfriend, I demand you learn a bit of patience.” Rob lowered
himself into the lake gingerly, but it wasn’t quite as shocking
compared to the cool night air as it had been during the day.

Tommy huffed,
but he stopped asking questions and stripped his own clothes off
before jumping into the water. As one they set off for the far
side. No games this time. Just fast, efficient strokes to get them
to their destination.

Tommy drew
ahead, as Rob had expected, and he hoped he hadn’t made a mistake
by coming down here earlier in the evening. Maybe Tommy wouldn’t
appreciate what he’d set up. Maybe he’d think it a bit too
controlling, or perhaps he preferred everything to be spontaneous.
But Rob knew what he wanted them to do, and that was always going
to take supplies. Two large plastic tubs of them, to be precise,
which had been a bugger to ferry across the water without a
boat.

He was willing
to admit he might have gone slightly overboard with his
preparations.

When he finally
pulled himself out of the water, it was to find Tommy standing in
the cave entrance, frozen to the spot. Rob took a deep breath and
walked up to him. “Everything okay?” he asked.

Tommy was
staring up at the flickering electric candle-lights Rob had
arranged leading up to the makeshift bed at the far end of the
cave. His dad had bought the lights years ago to use at barbeques,
but then never got them out again. They were battery operated, but
in their frosted glass containers they looked as good as the real
thing.

“You did all
this for me?” Tommy asked.

“For us. You
don’t mind, do you?”

“Mind? Why
would I mind?” The dancing lights reflected in Tommy’s eyes and in
every drop of water on his skin. “This is beautiful. No one’s ever
done anything like this for me before.” Tommy leaned his forehead
against Rob’s, and the intensity in his eyes was almost too much to
bear.

“I was
wondering... I wanted to. Uh, I mean, could we, would you mind...”
Rob didn’t know the right word to finish it off. Fucking sounded
too rough for what he had in mind, but the only alternative he
could think of involved the L-word and that was way too scary right
now.

“You want to
try anal?”

Rob gave him
grateful look. “Would that be all right?”

“You’ve got
lube? Rubbers?”

Rob nodded.

“Someone was
desperate to get it on, weren’t they? You dirty boy.”

“Oi.” Rob
elbowed Tommy in the ribs, but not hard. The teasing was just what
he needed to take his nerves away. Or he’d thought it was, but when
Tommy began kissing him and kneading his buttocks he decided that
was just what he needed instead. The scrape of that little metal
stud against his chin was strangely reassuring, grounding him in
the here and now.

Somehow they
made it to the pile of sheepskins and blankets, Tommy sprawled
beneath him. Rob raised himself up on hands and knees and peered
down the length of their bodies to where their erections appeared
to be kissing. Tommy raised his hips up, and the delicious pressure
made Rob hiss. “Don’t know how long I’m going to last.”

“Doesn’t need
to be long. I’m sure you’ll be able to get it up again soon
enough.”

But it did need
to be long enough to prove to Tommy he could do this right. He
could be a good lover, despite his total inexperience. And so he
kept part of his mind fixed on listing the names of the herd in the
order they’d been born, while the rest of him marvelled at the
sticky-slick texture of the lube Tommy poured on his fingers.

Wait a minute.
On Rob’s fingers? Should he get himself ready, then? But then Tommy
shifted and lifted his legs up, and Rob realised what he was after.
Oh. Disappointment threatened to make him soft, but this was still
Tommy, and it would still be fantastic. He’d make it fantastic.
Somehow.

Rob crouched
down, mouth on a level with Tommy’s dick, and took a tentative lick
of the tip while his fingers circled Tommy’s tightly furled hole.
Oh, that tasted good! Rob took another lick, before greedily
slurping in as much as he could before he gagged. At the same time
his fingers slid into the crushing heat of Tommy’s body.

Tommy arched,
moaning and cursing, and now it was okay because Tommy was the one
losing it, not Rob. He watched carefully, sucking gently on Tommy’s
cockhead while noting Tommy’s reactions as he twisted and flexed
his fingers. That spot gave him an extra deep groan and a spurt of
salty precome. Okay, that was clearly a spot that deserved further
investigation. Now to experiment with his mouth. He gagged again.
Bloody hell. This blowjob business was tougher than it looked.

“You need to
stick your tongue out more,” Tommy panted. “Makes it easier.”

Rob tried, and
while it still wasn’t exactly easy, at least he could fit more in
before gagging. He experimented with sucking harder instead of
trying to go deeper, and that earned him even more of Tommy’s
juices.

“Okay, enough.
Please. You want to screw me, you’d better stop that right
now.”

Tommy sounded
desperate, so Rob let go of his cock, but not without a pang of
regret. “I was just starting to get the hang of that as well.”

“I know. That
was the problem. You’d have ended up gagging on spunk any
moment.”

“I wouldn’t
have minded.”

Tommy reached
up to pat his cheek. “Next time. Now, how do you want me?”

“Erm...”

“Okay, how do
you normally fantasise about doing it?”

All kinds of
ways. But there was one favourite, wasn’t there? He just wasn’t
sure he could bring himself to say it. Especially after what they’d
discussed earlier. “Actually, I was wondering... If you’d, erm.
Well, you can say if you don’t want to, but...”

“You can tell
me. Whatever it is. Promise I won’t laugh.”

“It’s just, I
was thinking...” Oh God, he was just going to have to plunge into
this, wasn’t he? “Do you ever like to, er, be the top?”

The smile began
in Tommy’s eyes, then spread slowly out to the rest of his face. He
reached up and stroked Rob’s jaw. “I love it. I’ll make it good for
you, I promise.”

Rob nodded, not
trusting his voice, but trusting Tommy to keep his word. He’d never
let him down before. Except that one time, but now Tommy had
explained what was going on in his head, Rob was ready to let it
go.

He concentrated
on older memories instead. Of lying in the long grass on summer
days, his body burning with the urge to reach out and touch Tommy.
He lost himself in the past as Tommy’s fingers breached him. He let
himself be rolled onto his back, his body liquid surrender.

And then when
Tommy knelt between his legs and swapped his fingers for something
thicker, less wriggly... well then he was very much present in the
moment, but his body retained that languor. Tommy pushed into him
quickly, making him wince, but the burn soon gave way to an aching
sensation of fullness, new and all-absorbing.

“Fuck! Sorry.
Wasn’t expecting that to be so easy. You sure you haven’t done this
before?”

“I’m sure.” Rob
sounded as breathless as he felt.

“Then you’re a
natural.” Tommy leant down, their lips and tongues mashing together
in a sloppy kiss as he slowly began to move. Little movements at
first, every one a shock against his raw nerves. It was too much,
and yet not enough. Rob began to squirm, trying to work out how to
get more, and eventually his hips found a rhythm, thrusting down
against Rob. Trying to work him deeper, harder, oh!

Rob made a
peculiar noise as the motion touched him just right. Just there. A
wave of sensation raced through him, and then another, and another.
He rolled his head back against the sheepskin, trying to ground
himself before he was swept away entirely. Something was dripping
onto his stomach. His own dick. He craned his neck to watch another
drop of precome fall as Tommy swivelled his hips just right.

Tommy’s face
swam in his blurry vision. He was speaking words Rob half-heard,
half-felt as a low rumble. Something about love and beauty and
oh-my-God I’m going to come.

He didn’t want
it to end, but he’d drown if it didn’t. Rob grabbed for his cock,
only to find Tommy’s hand already there. He thrust into their sweat
slicked grip as a towering wave of ecstasy crashed down around them
both. Rob shot onto his stomach, jet after jet of pleasure so
bright it hurt. Tommy froze, and Rob forced his eyes open to watch
as he lost it.

Light sparkled
on every drop of water in Tommy’s hair. His skin glowed from
within. His eyelids fluttered, lips parted on a rush of air.

It was the most
beautiful sight of Rob’s life. Better than a frosty winter’s dawn,
a double rainbow and a harvest moon combined.

He was adding
this to list of things he’d never grow tired of. It was a short and
simple list, and if he played his cards right, he could keep
everything on it. Freshly baked bread, wind in the long grass, the
babbling of the river, and now this. Tommy. Loving him.

And Rob, loving
him right back.

The End

About the
Story

About ten years
ago I moved out into the wilds of Somerset. Okay, I say the wilds
but I’m actually living in a reasonable sized town. However, head
out of town just a few minutes in any direction and you’re plunged
into a rural idyll. This is picture-postcard English countryside,
with green rolling hills dotted with sheep and cows, and patchwork
fields divided up by leafy hedgerows and gentle rivers.

It took me a
long time to set any stories out in the countryside, though, and my
inspiration for By Quarry Lake didn’t come so much from the
farmland, but from my experiences of wild swimming. I’ve only swum
in the rivers around here, but there are some lakes nearby that you
can go diving in, and they’re incredibly deep as they are old
quarry pits.
