I dismiss the ideas and finalize my conclusion that it just isn

t something that will work out.
We walk to the front of my house where his car is.  I pull a tiny bit of my fire to the plate, using just a spark of heat to radiate through my hand and warm up the food for him.

I hand him the plate, and say,

Thanks for helping out, I hope I didn

t traumatize you too bad with my singing.

  I
give him my infamous eye roll.

So far, Alyssa I haven

t seen or heard anything that I didn

t like,

Marc says as he smiles and turns toward his car.  As I stand in the driveway watching him leave, I see Lisa

s car pulling in.

Lisa gets out of her car and instantly asks,

Hey was that Marc I just saw drive by, and what was he doing here?

She grins from ear to ear.

I reply nonchalantly,

Yea
h
, he just needed some help with math.  So he says and of course with a little help from Megan.

I wink at her and say
,

Come on inside and have a steak with me.

  When I walk into
the kitchen my cell is ringing
.

Hey Megan
.

Megan speaks her wor
ds so sweet and innocently.

Hey
was that Marcus that just drove by my house, coming
from
your house?

I put her on speaker so Lisa can hear too.

I speak my next words to her slowly and accusingly,

Well, you would know, now wouldn

t you, Megan
?

I
shak
e
my head
.

Y
ou gave him my number.

Megan clears her throat.

Hey, what if I did give him your cell, so what?  I

m not the one that gave
out
your home address, Alyssa.

I look over at Lisa and mouth the word,

True

to her.  Lisa covers her own mouth with a hand trying like crazy to not laugh out loud.

Megan goes on,

It appears babe, you have the hots so bad for this guy that you just couldn

t wait to get him all alone in your house, now could you?  I even bet you had to go find a fire hose to put out those flames you have for him.

I start choking on a piece of steak.

Lisa shifts around the counter, patting my back and asks,

You
okay
Alyssa?

As I take a drink from my water I
think
i
f the girls only knew
.

My dad walks into the kitchen.

He
llo,
ladies.

Lisa says
,

Hi
,
Mr. Worthington.

Hi D
ad, glad your home.

Megan yells throug
h my cell,

Hi, Mr. Worthington
…hey Alyssa, I gotta go, but I

ll catch ya later and oh, don

t forget to turn the water off.

S
he hangs up.

Chapter 10

The rest of the week goes by in a flash
.  The saying,
time fly

s when you are having fu
n
, is definitely true.  Marc and I spend time at school together as much as we can.  A few times while we walk the halls I glance and catch Kelly spying on us from a distance.  It doesn

t bother me, I

m a witch and we are good about keeping the negative from affecting us.

If we allow the negative to take over, it will quickly consume us to the point we will lose control. I can tell it is a concern for Marc.  The battle going on inside him, wanting to make Kelly understand it is over and for her to accept it and move on.  I never let him see that I

m aware of what

s going on.  I don

t want to make it any worse.

We walk to my car after
school;
Kelly

s car
is next
to his, so that gives her an excuse to be standing by his car.  I was taught that we don

t go looking for trouble, the whole
d
o no harm
oath.  I will say this, witches don

t like confrontations, but we will protect ourselves and the ones we love.

I open my car door and say
,

I will see you tonight.  Just follow those directions and meet me by the office about
7:30
.

I will definitely be there
,

h
e says as he walks to his car.

I start my car up and think
what
am I doing?  Bringing a human to

hang out

with witches?  Have I completely lost my mind, I know
Dad
has good intentions.  I just hope this is not a mistake and the night doesn

t turn out to be a complete disaster.

Once home, I head upstairs to my room.  I find a note on my desk from
Mom
.

Alyssa, I wish you
a good
evening and I am so sorry I can

t be here to see you before you leave.  I am
going in to
work
.  T
here is a
case at the hospital that needs an extra touch, so I
will be gone this evening
.  Have a great night my darling Alyssa.

I look over and next to my note is a freshly cut rose for me.  I need to do my protection spell, so with that thought I begin getting the items
together.

I shower first to wash away the mundane dirt
.  I fill the tub with cold
water;
once it is f
ull I concentrate on my fire
.  I feel it begin in my center and then pull through me flowing openly through my hands.  Dousing my hands slowly in the water, I feel the fire pulse out
,
heating the
bath
.  I add sea salt, lavender oil, and the petals from the rose
Mom
left on my desk.  Slowly swirling the water around three times, directing a blessing to my
g
oddess, I begin

E
lement of water, I call on thee, bring forth your energy.  By the powers of three purify the
mind, body and spirit within me,
e
lement of water, bringer of
life;
wash away the negative energies and strife.  Seal the purity of only love and lig
ht in this blessing.  G
oddess
,
hear me. S
o mote it be.

I finish my ritual and cleanse everything.  Lighting one white candle, I whisper
,

Thank you
.

Dressing in black jeans and my S
ora sweatshirt, I run out the door with an air of excitement for tonight.

On the way
,
I mess with my lipstick and hair a little more than usual, I guess I

m a tad bit nervous about seeing Marc at the track tonight.

Driving into the entrance I
wave at Tommy as I
head straight for the office and park.  Marc isn

t here yet.  I

m early so I can help
Dad
out.

Alyssa, good, help me review the track sheets for a minute
,

h
e says as the noise in the room rises from my friends gathering in.

No problem.

  I slide down into
my favorite
soft leather couch flipping through the pages.

Hey, you

ve got a cancellation here, who

s going to fill that slot?

I tilt my head towards him eagerly.

I hope you will do me the honor of racing tonight.

No worries, I will be glad to.

I sit up and hand him back the sheet.

It won

t take you away from Mr. Dela Dante too long, will it Alyss?

He writes my name in and glances at me with an all too knowing expression.

I hope you know what
you

re
doing with a human coming here tonight
,
Dad
.

He knows I like him, I can

t hide anything from my father.

Like you say
Alyss, no worries,

Dad
says
winking at me.

Lisa and Megan say together
,

Well is he here yet?

You can see Megan’s dying anticipation
.

Not yet, but soon, so keep an eye out for him, okay?  I

m racing in the second race and I need to get ready.

I didn

t think you are going to let him s
ee you racing on the first date,

Lisa says with mischief in her voice.

Yeah
, this
is getting way too
serious;
don

t you usually let guys see you naked before they see you racing?

  Megan laughs sarcastically.

Someone cancelled and I

m helping
Dad
out.

Sure,
I understand, someone cancelled
, I am sure that

s exactly what happened,

Megan says with enough sarcasm to make me nauseous.

You know Dawson and David just pulled up when we walked in, hope David can behave himself
,

Lisa says seriously.

He will if he knows what

s good for him
,

My dad states
.

We will do our best to keep our boy toy.....I mean
your
boy toy off the radar for you Alyssa
,

Megan says with a seductive wink.

The girls walk back out to the stands and I wait on Marc

s arrival which if he

s punctual will be in twenty minutes.

Cars and witches start filling the place up quickly.  I guess
it

s
a good thing that Marc has the card my dad made especially for him.  You see, it has a spell on it and when he reads the directions to the track it activates allowing Marc to locate it even though the track is cloaked.

Since I

m racing second I already have my car inspected.  The exhaust is dropped and my racing tires are now on the
Shelby
.  I park back over by the office and lean on my car, waiting fo
r Marc to show.  Searching my iPod
for racing music, I plug in
the earbuds
and drift off into the music.
