I pause for a moment and hold my hand out calling my fire to me.
Instantaneously tiny golden embers shimmer along my finger
tips;
closing my hand into a tight fist I quickly reopen
it,
holding a sphere of flames in my palm.  Judging by his reaction
,
with his overwhelmed wide-eye
s
I know he understands now.

I shake away the flames and begin to tell him what

s going to happen,

In order to do a mind sweep spell it will take the three of us, Megan, Lisa
,
and
me
.  We use each others energy together, which makes the spell irreversible. It will take away your memory of us and the evening
’s
event
s
entire
ly.  A witch will chant this spell and the person will no longer remember the witch
,
or in our case witches.

My heart aches
with grief
, but
I
guess
he w
on’t
have the slightest inkling of people disappearing, reappearing, or fire flickering along anyone. In the very least he might think he went to one hell of a party with a minor headache the next day.

As we approach the office
,
Dawson and David walk out with my father.
Dawson
comes over to us and tells
Lisa
,

I

m go
ing to run
, but
I will be back for you and Megan.

He kisses Lisa and shifts away.

David never even looks at
us
;
he
just keeps walking towards his car.

Ladies, pl
ease come inside so we can talk,

my father says
.  Lisa strolls in and Megan quickly follows
her ins
ide.  I start to turn from Marc and walk in
, but
he grabs my hand gently.  I already feel absolutely lousy about everything and now I have to do this, I truly have no intention
of
making matter
s
worse for him.

Hey, Alyssa
,
think we can discuss this a little more?
I mean after all, it is my mind
you guys are
trying
to wipe out,

he asks with a concerned tone.

After what

s just happened, I

m surprised
you

re
not running for your car.  Look
,
Marc what happened tonight wasn

t
supposed
to happen.

I shrug my shoulders and look away
.

You see
, David,
the rude
-
ass guy at the food court
, he

s my ex
-
boyfriend
.  L
et

s just say he

s having
a
problem dealing with being an ex-boyfriend apparently
.”
I stare down trying not to chastise
myself;
cautiously I peek
up to him.

I

m so sorry for bringing you into my world
,

I say in almost a whisper and give a slight tug on his hand so he wi
ll follow me to the office
. Marc doesn

t move, even his gaze seems to be frozen on me.

I begin to wonder if I need to use my voice to calm him
so we can go into the office and then after,
go our separate ways.

Please
,
don

t be afraid, I promise, you will not fee
l anything, please…come with me,

I say softly.
Still he doesn

t move from where he stands, nor does he let go of my hand.  We just simply stand here staring at one another, watching and observing the other

s
unclear
expression.
I hear the sounds of cars racing off in the distance
and
the feeling of the cool night air blowing around
us. That

s when suddenly I feet it.  The feeling the others speak of, an undeniable charge of pure white energy not like anythin
g I have ever experienced
before.

The unspeakable feeling of love
begins seeping
in
to me,
I thought I would never feel or even come close to
feeling
a pure
energy quite
like this, t
he
lifemate
connection.  It

s a strong magnetizing, forceful
energy,
pull
ing
intensely at my heart and
then
possesses
my
very
soul.  A
deep desire
inside me
professes
a
conviction
to be nowhere else in the world
, but
right here, right now
, here
with
him.

Marc glances down at my hands and
says
,

Your hands are so warm.

  Turning them
over as he inspects
them attentively, facing my palms upward he trace
s each faint line across my hand
.

Y
ou heated my plate the other day,
didn

t you
?

I g
ive
him a
subtle
nod
to
answer his question.

Looking back up at
me with determination
set
in his eyes
.

I don

t want to forget, I don

t want to forget tonight
,
or the fire, or...you.

I peer down at our hands intertwined
together;
I hadn

t realized we were holding hands until
now
.

Stay... right here and please don

t move.  I

ll be right back, ok
ay

don

t move,

I say holding my hands out to him like doing so will insure his stillness.
As if
all
the
soul searching mysteries were
tiny
furtive
voices whispering in my head,
he’s the one
,
a
lmost hypnoticall
y.
I
ha
ve never felt
this drastic urge not to mind sweep someone before. I mind attempts to dispute the idea, but my
heart valiantly insists other
wise.

I r
un into the office
.

Dad
,
I can

t do it, I don

t want to
cast a spell
on him, something is telling me not to.

He smiles one of those proud
fatherly
smiles of his and says plainly
, “
Why in the world would we, he

s one of us, you know.

My mouth gasps open while the shock
rushes over
me
.  M
y heart soars at hearing my father
’s
words.  I look into his steel
y
blue eyes and around the room seeing several other astounded expressions as well.

I barely sit down when I jum
p back up pacing back and forth.

B
ut Dad, you never told me, why?

He leans back in his chair,
observing
me for a moment
, and says,

Alyssa, I wasn

t entirely sure myself until I met him tonight.
There are still some things unanswered so we need to just take it one day at a time.
I

m hoping we can help him learn more about our world.

I can take it
from here.

I smile over to Lisa and Megan and then beam at my father.

Go get him f
ire girl!

Megan says theatrically holding a hand over her heart tightly gripping her shirt.
Lisa leans over and shoves Megan off the armrest of the leather chair she was sitting on.  Dad nods approv
ingly to me and I know with
out words my father is pleased with this turn of events.

Lisa and Megan walk out with me.
I lean over next to Megan.

See ya, Mary or would you prefer Miss Sanderson?

laughing as she stares at me in wonder.

Bye, girls, I

ll call
you
later
,

I tell them.

Bye, Alyss
,

t
he girls say as they wave at
Marc with mischief in their bewitching smiles.

I turn to Marc smiling and he grins back and
says with a pretend vacant look,

Hey, who are you, and where the hell am I?
Shaking my head I

m still surprised he
is
stand
ing
before me and hasn

t r
u
n madly for the hills.

He sits himself up on the hood of his car smiling that wicked smile
.

So, what

s next on your list, a ride on your broom, channeling spirits, whatever it is
,
I

m game.

Haven

t you had enough excitement for one night?

I ask looking at him cautiously.

He leans forward and pauses before he says
,

How about you and I spend some more time together before I forget we ever met.
Oh, and by the way I don

t think you look anything like Winifred from Hocus Pocus
.

I grin
pleasingly
.

Vell Den, thy wilst not suffa any memory loss, I promise
,

I reply, m
imicking the character from the movie.

Chapter 11

We drive up to a beautiful two story home.  He pulls his car around the side and I follow him to a three car garage nestled
to the right.  He opens my door;
t
aking my hand he leads me to the back of the house.

There is a set of stairs going up to
a balcony.

This is my floor
,

he
says as we stroll
up.  I notice that the second floor really
is
his
, with a
private deck.  There are double glass doors, which open directly into his bedroom.  Apparently
,
his family adores large glass windows because that

s what covers the entire back of his house.
