Cut Cords of Attachment (9 page)

Struggling won’t help. Tussle with a two-year-old over something that he considers “mine”? Forget it. A smart grownup takes a different tack: Offer the kid something else, like an exciting rock.

“Ooh,” Sonny will say, grabbing it. Of course, in the process he’ll drop your keys.

Even if your social skills as a grownup have become more advanced than Sonny’s, your mind works similarly. Give your mind something new to think about, rather than your original question, and automatically you will let go of your original thought, the question. For our technique of “Questioning,” your “something different” can be that breathing pattern you have just learned.

Vibe-Raising Breaths are easy. Plus they open up your Crown Chakra, remember? Which makes them a great choice.

Hence, the best way to let go of your question is simply to take two or three Vibe-Raising Breaths in a row, then return to normal breathing.

Continue to sit quietly with your eyes closed. Because this technique works automatically, whatever you experience next will count as the answer to your question. Your job is simply to accept this. Here are some tips to help the process along.

Alternating

Are you going through this book with a buddy? Then you can sit in pairs and alternate doing “Questioning” for each other. Your partner poses a question she’s curious about. You close your eyes, Get Big, set the intention to help your partner, ask that question inside, take the Vibe-Raising Breaths and tell your partner whatever you get. Then trade places.

Recording

Unless you are working with a buddy, it’s important to record your results in objective reality. Pen and paper work fine. Open your eyes long enough to jot down whatever you experience with “Questioning.”

Or use a recording device, like a digital recorder. Open your eyes long enough to turn it on, close your eyes, then talk away.

Now Let’s Do the “Questioning” Technique

Courageous Explorer, read through the full set of instructions. Then go, step by step:

1. Close your eyes. Give yourself a moment to relax.

2. Do the “Get Big” technique. Think the name of the Divine Being of your choice. Know that you are connected in consciousness.

3. Think one question, e.g., “What deep, underlying emotion do I have right now?”

4. Take two or three Vibe-Raising Breaths.

5. Return to normal breathing.

6. Sitting in the silence, whatever you experience right now counts as information. After 10-20 seconds, notice what you have been experiencing. Put this into words. Write it down, quick and sloppy. Immediately close your eyes again.

7. Congratulate yourself on having completed the technique. Trust that you got the very clearest results possible for you at this time.

8. Open your eyes and look at what you got. Interesting and insightful or what?

Practice away with these other productive questions for the “Questioning” technique

  • What special gift do I bring to Rosetree Energy Spirituality?
  • What obstacle do I face in learning to do the 12 Steps to Cut Cords of Attachment?
  • What will help me to overcome this obstacle?
  • Which person from my past can inspire me now, as I learn to cut cords?
  • What song that I know can become my theme song when I do Rosetree Energy Spirituality?
  • Why is that particular song meaningful to me right now?

Results-Oriented “Questioning”

Questioning always works... once you feel comfortable enough with the process to trust what you get. Still, some answers from “Questioning” may puzzle you.

Does this make your answer wrong? No, you simply need clarification.

Dictionaries work the same way, right? Say you begin by looking up “Umbrella.” The dictionary defines it as “An appliance used to fend off unwelcome precipitation.”

The word “appliance” you understand, and “fend off” isn’t an entirely unknown concept, but what if you are stumped by that term “precipitation”?

Well, go back to your dictionary and look it up. “Precipitation.” Your trusty dictionary might say, “Rain, sleet, or snow.”

Now you can put all the meanings together.

Similarly, the “Questioning” technique sometimes supplies an answer that needs clarification through an additional cycle. Simply frame your question and go. In the set of sample questions above, the last pair included a typical follow-up question:

  • What song that I know can become my theme song when I do Rosetree Energy Spirituality?
  • Why is that song meaningful to me right now?

Besides helping with meaning, follow-up cycles of “Questioning” can clear up a context: “What does X have to do with Y?”

For instance, say that you ask, “Which person from my past can inspire me now, as I learn to cut cords?”

Your answer is, “My mailman, Joe.” And suppose that this answer mystifies you.

Then your next question might be, “What does Joe have to do with inspiring me as I learn to cut cords?”

Perhaps you learn, “He is really, really persistent.”

There you have it, a successful answer because you did an extra cycle of “Questioning.” So let’s put this in Official Technique perspective.

TECHNIQUE: Follow-Up Questioning

Usually you won’t need to use any supplementary cycles with the “Questioning” technique.

Sometimes, though, you may wish for a bit of clarification. So this technique is for you. Ask a follow-up question, as if you were using a regular dictionary. If a first cycle of “Questioning” doesn’t satisfy you, stay in technique mode. Then:

1. Create a new question, based on the answer you just received.

2. Eyes still closed, do the “Get Big” technique again. Now you have refreshed your connection in consciousness.

3. Refresh your intention, like thinking, “More wisdom” or “I choose to gain more wisdom” or “I am ready to gain more wisdom.”

4. Think your new question mentally.

5. Let go by taking two or three Vibe-Raising Breaths.

6. Return to normal breathing.

7. Sitting in the silence, whatever you experience right now counts as information. After 10-20 seconds, notice what you have been experiencing. Put this into words. Write it down, quick and sloppy. Immediately close your eyes again.

8. Congratulate yourself on having completed the technique. Trust that you got the very clearest results possible for you at this time.

9. Open your eyes and look at what you got. Figure out how this information connects to your original cycle of questioning. Do not do additional cycles. Use what you’ve got: Perfect is the enemy of good.

“Questioning,” plus additional Energy Sandwich techniques, will be essential for doing the 12 Steps to Cut Cords of Attachment. For easy reference, here follows the complete sequence.

TECHNIQUE: Comprehensive Questioning

Courageous Explorer, here’s the full method to use for “Questioning” when you do the 12 Steps to Cut Cords of Attachment. Automatically you will be making an Energy Sandwich, gaining wisdom with the help of a Divine Being.

1. Close your eyes.

2. Do the “Get Big” technique. Know that you are connected in consciousness.

3. Think your intention, like “More wisdom” or “I choose to gain more wisdom” or “I am ready to gain more wisdom.”

4. Cycle through the three main parts of “Questioning.”

  • Think a question.
  • Let go of it by taking a couple of Vibe-Raising Breaths. Then return to normal breathing.
  • Whatever you experience now is information, the answer to your question. Accept what you get. Then write it down and immediately close your eyes. Or speak it aloud into a recording device.

5. If necessary, do one extra cycle of “Follow-Up Questioning.”

6. When finished with this period of “Follow-Up Questioning,” say thanks inside to the Divine Being who has been helping you. Stretch your body. Then open your eyes.

7. Think about the significance of your findings. Use common sense to apply your “Questioning” results to the topic you were researching.

8. Consider that you have completed this research for now.

Because “Questioning” is so important, I would like you to practice it a bit more before going forward. Here are some sample questions for you to use for practice. Remember, if any answer isn’t quite clear, create an open-ended, follow-up question to ask next:

When I think about cutting cords of attachment, what deep, underlying emotion do I have?

  • What will help me to use my full potential as a healer when cutting cords of attachment?

CORD SAMPLE: Ruined for Love?

After her love affair with Jack, Dolores had zero libido. Although she felt intuitively that she needed to cut her cord to him, Dolores had no idea why getting over Jack was so difficult. Did she ever find out! Using “Questioning,” here is the pattern of cord dialogue that I found when doing Step 9 of cord cutting:

1. Dolores: Wow, when I’m with this man, I seem so forceful. Loads of my emotions come out.

2. Jack: She expresses for me. I’m not in touch with a lot of my emotions. (After “Follow-Up Questioning”: We have an energy hook-up through this cord where some of my more unpleasant, stuck emotions go directly into her. Then she turns angry or jealous.)

3. Dolores: Instead of feeling super-expressive, now I have a complete turnoff to my feelings.

4. Jack: Often I’m remote, inaccessible. (After “Follow-Up Questioning”: This is because I want women to indulge me, the way my mother did when I was growing up.)

5. Dolores: Being in love is so confusing. Sometimes Jack acts close. Other times he’s distant. The randomness is driving me nuts.

6. Dolores: I wish I could be more like him, so confident about relationships.

7. Jack: Gloating. I am quite the expert about psychology. All my therapy has made me psychologically super-healthy.

8. Jack: Poor Dolores. She knows nothing. She’s lucky that I can show her how to be in touch with feelings.

9. Dolores: I’m not like him, so I must be defective.

After I read these cord items to Dolores, she laughed. Turned out that Jack had bragged a lot about his years of therapy. Then she turned serious. “Do you suppose that maybe I’m not defective, after all? And maybe Jack wasn’t as perfect as he thought?”

Consciously, Dolores had let Jack go. But subconsciously that cord of attachment kept his presence alive. Now she could put the relationship into perspective.

Dolores told me, “For the first time since breaking up with Jack, I feel that I might have something worthwhile to offer a man.”

Appropriate Questions

Courageous Explorer, be sure to ask appropriately when you do “Questioning.” Remember our discussion about how Divine Beings, at the etheric level, differ from astral beings such as spirit guides? The former specialize in life lessons, not psychic flash or predictions.

Here are three principles to help you select productive questions. I’ll follow each principle with examples that I would consider productive versus unproductive. Appropriate questions for cord cutting are:

Open-ended
rather than yes-or-no

  • Productive question: Which gifts of my soul will help me to cut cords of attachment?
  • Unproductive question: Can I do this or not?

Wisdom-oriented
rather than prediction-oriented

  • Productive question: What will help me to trust myself when I cut cords of attachment?
  • Unproductive question: Which cord of attachment will I cut first?

Assuming
free will
rather than fatalism

  • Productive question: How can I develop most quickly at cutting cords of attachment?
  • Unproductive question: Is it my destiny to cut cords of attachment?

Questioning to Benefit a Client

When “Questioning”, sometimes you might receive unexpected images or information. For instance, while reading your client’s heart chakra you might flash on an image of a miniature ballerina. What will you do with that?

If you were doing a psychic reading, you might ask your client, “What does a ballerina mean to you?”

If you were having an ordinary conversation, you and your client might share a lovely reminiscence about ballerinas you have known; then the two of you might conjecture how any of this might apply to cutting a cord of attachment.

But for skill sets of Rosetree Energy Spirituality, continue to benefit from your connection to a Divine Being. Use “Follow-up Questioning” until the information comes clear.

TECHNIQUE: Follow-up Questioning Cycles with a Client

Uh-oh, there you are with a client. Already you have done “Questioning” once, but the answer doesn’t make sense to you. For instance, when exploring your client’s Heart Chakra Databank for Emotional Self-Awareness, you got an image of a ballerina. Here’s how to refine this experience to make it practical.

1. Do an additional cycle where you begin with a question that puts your perception in a context, like “What does a ballerina have to do with my client’s emotional self-awareness?”

2. Take the 2-3 Vibe-Raising Breaths.

3. Note your answer.

4. Only then tell your client what you have received from “Questioning”. In this example, you might hear this answer, “When young, she wanted to be a ballerina, but it didn’t happen. This kind of longing colors her emotions right now.”

Information is what your client needs to hear, not your personal process of receiving it. She’s the client, not you!

TALE: Do You Know a Tony, a Tom?

Most often, it’s new mediums or psychics who go fishing for answers, but sometimes a beginner at cord cutting is tempted to do the same. Let’s say that you are the client. The medium says, “I’m getting the name Tony. Does that mean anything to you?”

“No,” you say. “I’ve never had an important person in my life named Tony. Sorry.”

“Maybe not Tony, then,” says the practitioner. “It could be Tom. Okay, how about this? Teddy.”

“Gee, I wish I could say yes, but I can’t.”

“Hmm, not Teddy. Okay, no problem. Would you happen to know a Tim-Tim?”

Sure, a medium might need to go on this kind of fishing expedition. His role is that of a reporter. He’s connecting with an unknown entity who feeds him information.
