“Yes. I’ll give
us
another chance.” She kissed his neck, then his cheek. “I love you, Mike. I couldn’t say it that night at the condo, but I’ll say it now.”

“I love you, Darcy. I want us to be together—you, me, and Taylor.”

“I want that, too. More than anything.”

“W
HAT’S GOING ON
in there?” Hannah nudged Taylor’s shoulder. “What do you see?”
“They’re kissing.” Taylor eased the door open an inch wider so she could get a better view. Her dad looked happier than he had in days.

“That’s good,” Hannah said. “Right?”

“It’s good.” Taylor eased the door shut again and let out a sigh. “Now if I can just keep Dad from doing any more stupid guy things.”

“Duh! They can’t help it. I think it’s genetic.”

“And I guess women aren’t always perfect, either.”

“Close to it. Hey, speaking of stupid guy things, what did Nathan say to you at his party last week? I saw the two of you sneak off to that alcove by the soda machines.”

Taylor hoped all the makeup she was wearing hid her blush. “He just wanted to apologize again for saying those mean things about me the day I hit him.”

Hannah smirked. “I think he wanted to get you alone so he could kiss you. Did he?”

“Did he what?” Taylor pretended not to understand.

“Did he
kiss
you?”

“Maybe.” It was only a little kiss. His lips tasted like root beer.

She turned back to the dressing room and eased the door open once more. “They’re still kissing.”

“I think Darcy would be a cool stepmom,” Hannah said.

“Yeah.” Taylor closed her eyes and made a wish—for her dad and Darcy to love each other forever, and for the three of them to be a family. What she’d wanted all along, with all her heart.
