Davies, Corinne - Claiming Destiny [Midnighter Seductions 1] (Siren Publishing Ménage Everlasting) (23 page)

As they left, their warriors offered them quiet congratulations. No one wanted to be the one to wake their sleeping Noonsa.

Epilogue

Falcon peered up over the embankment and scouted the immediate area for any threats. The Earth’s sun pounded down on him, making the back of his neck tingle. He and his warrior brothers had learned the hard way about the strength of that sun. They’d all suffered from painful sunburns at one time or another in the last six months. Their dual suns didn’t shine with the same dangerous rays. Wolfe had suffered the worst after he chose to spend a day at a lake a few hours north of here. Now he practically bathed in sunscreen before leaving the protection of the shadows.

This entrance to the portal was in the middle of a wide expanse of nothing but sun and sand. Their Nohchils had decided that he, Wolfe, Blade, and Thunder would be the first rotation to guard the entrance to the portal and help figure out what they could do to disguise it. He knew it was because of his flirtations with Destiny. She blushed so prettily, Falcon couldn’t resist. He pulled up his shirtsleeve and typed a quick message into his communications device on his wrist, letting Blade know what they’d come across. They all carried cellular phones but didn’t use them. Their own communications were much more effective and didn’t rely on the signal towers that now overpopulated the Earth.

He retreated back into the shadows of the entrance and sat with his back against the cool rock wall. Wolfe sat across from him, his eyes closed as he tried to catch a little more sleep. Neither of them had gotten much in the way of rest the previous night. After the
Cha’an
, he and Wolfe had slaked their painful arousal with a few Raxka. Despite the excess they’d indulged in last night, a part of him felt empty. They’d all dreamed of their perfect Atan since they were boys and learned that the gods had chosen a different path for them. Now that the portal was open, he’d hoped by some divine intervention the women would be lined up waiting for them. Such was obviously not the case.

A pang of disappointment hit him at their failure to attract Destiny’s attentions at the
oot-ak
the day before. He and his fellow Midnighters knew that their Nohchils had already claimed her heart, but he wanted to feel that connection they had. When she, Rock, and Jag saw him and Wolfe off this morning he’d felt the peaceful calm surrounding the trio and couldn’t be happy for them. Destiny had been bubbling with excitement over the bonding marks that had appeared on her arms and shoulders during the ceremony. They were a beautiful addition to her skin and made him long to see his markings on his own Atan.

It was then he’d learned that Blade and Thunder had come back across last night instead of indulging in the willing bodies of the Raxka. Blade spent less and less time in the baths. While the Raxka didn’t completely ignore the big man, Falcon had noticed they didn’t approach him with the boldness they did with the other Midnighters and he wondered what else was going on.

The low rumble of a vehicle alerted him to Blade’s approach. Falcon was looking forward to getting to know this world a bit more, but he wanted to find an Atan. A sense of anticipation shimmered in the air around him and set his nerves jumping. Something was going to happen, and he hoped it had more to do with soft curves and beautiful eyes than the rank evil that stalked the shadows.
