Forbidden Blood (Vampire Venators Romance Series) (48 page)

He smiled and then grimaced, and rubbed his jaw. It was bothering him. His irritation disappeared from her blood when their eyes met again.

“I should be the one saying that. What in the Devil’s name compelled you to do such a thing? I told you to stay where it was safe,” he said.

Amber’s smile widened. She ran the backs of her fingers down his cheek and stepped closer to him, so their knees touched.

“I’m always safe with you.” She pressed a kiss to his silver hair. “Someone had to stop you from being a hero.”

He leaned back, evading her, and frowned.

Amber went to the bathroom, wet a black flannel, and looked at it. If they were going to live together forever, they were going to have to decorate their home more cheerily than his family’s mansion. His clean white apartment, bright and spacious, had been perfect for her. Perhaps they could live there.

Having seen the mess on the walls in the reception room downstairs though, she no longer needed to guess at why he had made her close her eyes when leaving his apartment. The clean white walls were probably stark red now.

Kearn was still frowning when she walked back to him. She cleaned the blood from his face with the cloth, careful not to disturb any of the cuts in case they bled again. By the time she had finished, his frown was gone.

“Why did you leave the safe room?” His eyes searched hers.

She cleaned the blood from his neck. “I told you. I had to stop you from being a hero.”

“Now tell me the real reason,” he whispered and she smiled inside. She wasn’t going to give him what he wanted, not even when he said it in a voice that made her quiver.

“I didn’t want you to fight alone.”

His frown came back. He caught her wrist, kissed her hand and then each of her fingers.

“Tell me.” There was more insistence in his tone this time.

He wasn’t going to get anywhere by ordering her. She would give him what he wanted, when she wanted. He kissed up her arm, luring her down at the same time. A shiver of anticipation chased ahead of him and the marks on her neck tingled at the thought of him biting her again.

“You’re hurt,” she said and he stopped by her shoulder. “And you’re tired. I… bite me… take my blood.”

He looked at her out of the corner of his eye. The edges of his irises turned red and then his eyes changed completely when his gaze moved to her neck.

“I want nothing more… and nothing less…” Kearn pulled her arm and she lost her balance and fell into him.

Before she could ask whether he was alright, she was pinned beneath him on the bed, her legs falling over the end of it with his. Kearn placed his hands on either side of her head.

“Are you afraid of me now?”

That question surprised her. He had been violent during the fight, but she knew that he would never harm her. He had only fought to protect her and she was thankful for it. She shook her head.

“I’ll never be afraid of you… I only fear losing you.” Her voice shook with nerves. They melted away when he smiled. She reached up and stroked his cheek before sliding her hand around the back of his neck. “I was scared that you were going to leave me.”

The sorrow in his blood didn’t touch his eyes but she felt it. He hadn’t wanted to leave her either.

“I would have gone with you. I didn’t want you to be alone.” Tears filled her eyes at the thought of him dying, and of following him. “Stupid, right?”

He shook his head. “Beautiful. Exactly what I would expect from my Amber.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too,” Kearn whispered against her lips, lowered himself and kissed her slowly.

He tasted metallic but she didn’t mention it. The love and affection in his blood, and in the kiss, warmed her heart until the tears slipped down her temples and into her hair. She had been so afraid of losing him, and now she was so relieved. Her feelings were so muddled that she wasn’t sure if she was coming or going yet, but there was one thing she was certain of.

And it was the one thing she knew he wanted to hear.

Kearn kissed over her jaw and down to the marks on her throat. Amber tilted her head to one side and bit her lip when his fangs penetrated her. She wrapped her arms around him, holding him close so he would never leave her and would know she didn’t want to be apart from him. She opened her heart to him, held him to her throat, and sent the message through her blood to him, so he would feel it as well as hear it this time.

“Stay with me forever.”

Kearn licked her throat, kissed it, and pulled her into his arms. He held her so tightly that it hurt but she smiled through the pain, lost in the depth of his love and his need for her.

Duke Montagu had been right.

She had tamed her Noble and won his heart.

In exchange, she had given hers, and stepped into a strange new world without fear, because she knew that she would always be safe with Kearn. He would never let anything happen to her. He would always love her. And she would always love him.

Kearn pulled back and smiled, causing a blush to burn her cheeks.

Amber said goodbye to her old life.

And embraced her new one, looping her arms around his neck.

She wasn’t afraid of the future.

No matter what happened, it would be worth it.

Because Kearn was in it.

And he would stay with her forever.

About the Author:

Felicity Heaton is a romance author writing as both Felicity Heaton and F E Heaton. She is passionate about penning paranormal tales full of vampires, witches, werewolves, angels and shape-shifters, and has been interested in all things preternatural and fantastical since she was just a child. Her other passion is science-fiction and she likes nothing more than to immerse herself in a whole new universe and the amazing species therein. She used to while away days at school and college dreaming of vampires, werewolves and witches, or being lost in space, and used to while away evenings watching movies about them or reading gothic horror stories, science-fiction and romances.

Having tried her hand at various romance genres, it was only natural for her to turn her focus back to the paranormal, fantasy and science-fiction worlds she enjoys so much. She loves to write seductive, sexy and strong vampires, werewolves, witches, angels and alien species. The worlds she often dreams up for them are vicious, dark and dangerous, reflecting aspects of the heroines and heroes, but her characters also love deeply, laugh, cry and feel every emotion as keenly as anyone does. She makes no excuses for the darkness surrounding them, especially the paranormal creatures, and says that this is their world. She’s just honoured to write down their adventures.
