CHAPTER 1

Gregory sat drumming his fingers on the plush couch, waiting for his afternoon appointment to come in. Apparently her name was Hayley, and she was desperate for an interview for months. Gregory Kincaid wasn’t your ordinary, average man. He was the city’s token billionaire playboy who has more time on his hands than anything else. The tabloids loved him, and every time he cracked a page open of the local paper, it was always about his debauchery and romantic escapades.

“They’re not wrong,” he would say to himself with a small smile. Being the hot, rich, blonde playboy that he is, he certainly was able to live up to the expectations of the media and reinforce his public image. He was usually seen on vacation with famous actresses who were notoriously good in bed, but not very good at much else. Of course, Gregory was fine with that. He really wasn’t interested in anything more than that. The tabloids also loved to talk about his spending habits and all of the fancy cars and homes he owned across the country. He was able to wine and dine with the best of them, spending money at elite restaurants around the world and art galleries. Of course, Gregory didn’t just have a pretty face, no he was also the head of his father’s company. His father was a respected industrialist, and now that he had retired, Gregory carried the torch as the head of his father’s company, a rare and very awe-inspiring position.

The woman that was waiting for him was Hayley. She was an up-and-coming journalist with little experience and a lot to prove. According to her phone messages, she said that her boss wanted her to get an interview with Gregory that would be the featured article in their magazine. Of course, with Gregory, it was easier said than done trying to get him to sit still and hold his attention long enough to interview him.

There was a rumor that Gregory only did interviews with female reporters that were deemed “hot” by him. When Hayley heard the rumor, she immediately felt insecure. She had long, dark brown hair and brown eyes, but she kept her hair in small braids that cascaded down her back. She wasn’t the hottest woman out there, that’s for sure. She had been denied multiple times by Gregory’s people. She suspected it was because of how she looked, but she couldn’t know for certain. She didn’t have giant breasts or a plump butt, but rather she was a smart, cunning, and sweet woman who wanted her personality to be seen instead of just being seen as a sex object with a nice figure. It had been a fruitless effort for the last couple of weeks, but when she got that call, that fateful call from Gregory’s assistant that said that he could come over, she raced to his office intent on not letting the opportunity slip away. Hayley couldn’t believe this, and as she got to the company’s floor, the receptionist looked at her with a wry eye.

“And you are?” she asked with a curt gesture.

“Hayley. I’m here to see Gregory,” she said with a stammer. She blushed realizing what was going on, knowing that this receptionist was probably one of the culprits in denying her multiple times.

“Top floor. That’s the executive suite. He’s waiting for you as we speak,” she said.

Hayley nodded, looking at the elevator. Her big, round glasses were hugging her face, and she knew she looked frumpy compared to the receptionist in front of her. Whatever, Hayley thought to herself. She was here for her interview and shouldn’t care about anything else. She went to the elevator and pushed the button. After stepping inside the elevator, she hit the button for the top floor and zoomed upward toward the executive suite.

As soon as she entered the suite, she noticed the whole place was very lavish, and she immediately felt embarrassed to be dressed so plainly. Hayley knew she had to keep a strong head. She had to prove to herself that she could stand up to this amount of pressure without giving up. Another receptionist greeted Hayley and asked if she was there to meet Gregory. Hayley nodded and the receptionist led Hayley to his office. Hayley saw Gregory sitting behind his desk.

Holy crap, Hayley thought, he’s gorgeous. He had lush blue eyes, blonde hair, and a tall frame. She could tell that he was under a lot of stress by the labored manner in which he carried himself, and he kept a stoic face as he looked at her. She felt for a moment that she wasn’t important enough to be allowed in this man’s presence. He was so breathtaking, so amazing…she couldn’t help wondering what he would look like underneath his perfectly tailored suit.

“Hello there, I’m Hayley,” she said.

“Hello. Have a seat,” he told her.

The way he said it was very apparent to her that he was a shallow bastard. But she knew what she had to do, and she had already mentally prepared herself for this man’s ego and misogyny. She knew CEOs were notorious for belittling and objectifying women. Despite her readiness to oppose this man’s bad behavior, she couldn’t help but wonder what it would feel like for Gregory’s hands to grope her breasts. He motioned for her to come inside, and when she walked in, she felt his eyes staring deep into hers and she felt something immediately soften within herself. It was strange, a bit of a warm feeling that she couldn’t exactly pinpoint. She was also hit with the smell of Gregory’s perfectly scented cologne. At least he smells nice, she thought.

“Can I get you anything to drink?” he asked her.

“It’s fine, I’m good,” she said.

He nodded, pouring a coffee for himself. She felt a bit embarrassed in comparison to him, but then she looked up at his desk. There was a brilliant picture that was hanging there, and Hayley was instantly curious.

“Is that an original Pollack?” she asked with a small hint of excitement.

He simply nodded, and when Hayley fully realized he wasn’t joking, her eyes widened, and she started to gush…

“Oh my gosh, that’s amazing! I love his art. I’ve been to the new exhibit a few times! This one is really amazing and—”

Then, she saw his hand move up. She immediately stiffened, blushing at the way she acted.

“That’s enough, let’s get this interview going. I’m a busy man,” he simply said.

Hayley blushed, embarrassed by her fan-girl rant but also pissed off at the rudeness and the vanity of the man in front of her. Despite his rudeness, there was something weirdly nice about this man. Normally, she would call a person out if they started to act like this towards her, but she didn’t mind the fact that she could completely and obediently follow this man’s command. In a way, she couldn’t help herself. From the outside, he was the perfect type of man in her eyes…. But like all men, his personality could use some work.

She started to ask him questions about his company, about their business practices, and about boring stuff about their yearly earnings and charity work. During his answers, Hayley became very aware that Gregory knew how to hold himself, and he was able to command power and move his body in ways that were utterly intoxicating. It would be weird to say that she had a crush on him, but there was a mysterious quality about him that enticed her, that made her question the judgments she had made about him upon first meeting.

Gregory stood up and walked over to a leather couch on the other side of his office. He invited Hayley to join him. Hayley got up and sat on the couch next to him. Gregory moved closer to her and put a hand on her thigh. He looked into her eyes and told her that he’s going to kiss her.

Hayley was simultaneously shocked and excited. She knew that Gregory had a lot of money, and he wasn’t someone that she should probably ever say “no” to. He was the type of man that would be able to ruin her career within moments. But then again, there was something within her that made her realize that he wasn’t the type of man that she wanted to say no to. No, she found that she was turned on by obeying this man’s every command and that she wanted to be taken by him and wrapped around his finger.
