Gale, Avery - Katarina's Return [The ShadowDance Club 1] (Siren Publishing Ménage Amour) (19 page)

“I love you both so very much, I just don’t even really know how to tell you how happy you make me.” Kat looked between both Alex and Zach and saw their love reflected clearly in their expressions. Deciding she wanted to give them their gift in private, she continued. “I have something for you, a gift I want to share with you, if we have time, I mean, I don’t want to change your plans or anything, but this is kind of important, and, well…”

Kat was cut off from continuing by Zach. “We will always make time for you, kitten. What do you have for us?” He had to bite the inside of his mouth to suppress the stupid grin he knew was going to be on his face for the next several months. They had decided to let her have her moment, and they didn’t want to steal her thunder by telling her they already knew about her “gift.”

Alex watched as Katarina moved to the mantle of the fireplace and picked up a small beautifully wrapped box he hadn’t even noticed lying there, it reminded him of a box a bracelet might be displayed in at a jewelry store. Looking at his brother, he could see Zach had the same puzzled expression. Holy shit, had they misread the signs? Christ they were both going to be disappointed if they’d been wrong. Katarina stood in front of them both and said, “This is for both of you, please work together to open it. I hope it’s the first of several gifts like it I will be able to give you.” And then she held the box out to them, waiting until they each had a hand on it before she let it go.

* * * *

Kat watched the puzzled expressions cross both of their faces. She was biting her lip, God, she was nervous, what if they weren’t happy about the baby? What if they truly had just forgotten her birth control pills when they’d packed her things for the honeymoon? What if they didn’t think she’d be a good mother? Oh God, what if they wanted tests to know which of them was the biological father? She really didn’t think she could handle that one at all. By the time they’d gotten the box open, she was almost hyperventilating.

“Katarina, love, what is this plastic stick?” Alex was pretty sure both he and his brother knew exactly what the stick was, but he knew she almost worried herself into a full-blown state of panic, so he’d wanted to get her head back in the conversation quickly. It had taken them a couple of minutes to unwrap the box because their fingers had been shaking so much they’d had trouble dealing with the silk bow.

Alex saw Katarina hesitate for a couple of seconds before her words pushed out in a rush. “It’s the test stick from a pregnancy test. Um, well, I’m, I mean, we’re, all of us I mean, we’re going to be parents. I’m pregnant.” Her words had come so quickly that she hadn’t even stopped to take a breath, and Alex made a note to look up online and see if that was bad for the baby. And then smiling to himself, he realized just how overprotective they were going to become. And if this little bundle of joy was a girl, he was fairly certain they’d need to start building those turrets and a moat right away, so they’d be ready for any young men who even wanted to consider visiting.

Alex and Zach wrapped their arms around Kat, hugging her and kissing her hair, her face, her fingers, and at the same time, they got down on their knees, moved the strips of her dress to the side, and reverently kissed her flat little tummy where their growing child lay.

Zach was the first to speak. “Kitten, we are both thrilled that you are carrying our child. This is by far the best gift we’ve ever received. We are overjoyed, and know this always, sweet kitten, you are what makes us whole; we’ll protect and cherish you for the rest of our lives.”

Alex had stood again and from behind her wrapped her in is strong arms and spoke close to her ear. “Seeing you growing round with our child is going to be an amazing experience.” Alex had to stop for a moment to get his emotions back under control. “You enchant us, you are the center of our universe, love. We’ll spend the rest of our lives making sure you and every child we’re blessed with know how deeply you are loved each and every day. Brother, if you could go out and make our regrets to our guests, then join us in our suite, I believe our wife needs some extra special attention tonight. I don’t want to share this special occasion with anyone else. This celebration belongs to the three of us.”

Well, damn and double damn, looks like I won’t be going to The Club tonight after all.

THE END

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

For years, I was accused of living in “Fantasy Land” so I decided to put it to use and started writing.  I enjoy creating characters who are loveable but never perfect, who live in and visit all the places I’d love to go, and who overcome obstacles to find the sexy happily ever after I believe we all deserve.  I fall in love with the characters I create and enjoy making them each wacky and wonderful in their own way.

The only consistent trait in my heroines is their inability to cook and that is the only trait they each have “inherited” from me. When I’m not working at my very ordinary job, I am either writing or reading. And even though my family professes to support my writing efforts, I’m fairly certain they are merely glad to see I’ve finally found an outlet for what they considered an over-the-top imagination.
