This is another inflammatory bowel condition that causes chronic inflammation of the large intestine and rectum. It is thought to be an autoimmune condition. The side effects are extreme pain, fever, anemia, fierce bowel movements, gas, bloating, stomach distension, alternating bouts of explosive, bloodied diarrhea with periods of constipation. The rectum may have fissures and hemorrhoids or even abscesses. This condition often results in rapid weight loss due to the fact that nutrients from foods are not being absorbed effectively. Acids and by-products have eaten away at the intestinal lining, resulting in serious inflammation and ulcering.
Make sure you get a proper diagnosis. Sometimes colitis symptoms can mimic appendicitis. If you have rectal bleeding, please see your GP, as this could also be a sign of colon cancer.
