Just working out with Ash.”  River pointed over at the far side of the room where Ash was on the floor stretching.  Jonas didn’t see her when he walked in.

You need to get dressed if we are going to make it to Reece’s on time.”  River glanced at the clock on the wall.  “Oh my…I’m sorry, Jonas.  I just lost all sense of time.”

Jonas smiled then offered his hand out for River to take. 
“Thanks, Ash.  I will see you tomorrow.”  Ash waved good-bye.  Then River looked over at Jansen and Banks.  “Hey, guys, have a great night.  I’ll see you tomorrow.”  Banks had already gotten up and stood in front of the bag.  It was apparently his turn to box with it.  Jansen held the bag for Banks as River and Jonas walked out of the gym.

“I have a surprise for you.  You had said before that you would like to see me when I shift and since we are outside while the hamburgers are cooking I thought I would do that for you.”  Jonas shrugged.  “It was just an idea.  We don’t have too,” Jonas added.

“This is the place Jimmy saw her,” Rick Johnson informed Paddock.

What can I get you to eat?”  The man stuck his head out the window yelling at them.  Paddock smiled at the man then got out of the booth and moved to the bar to sit where he could talk to the man and get some information.

Hamburger would be great.  Where is all your help?” Paddock asked.

Well, Mary got sick and her sister came and took her home with her and when Dottie left, we just haven’t hired anyone else.”  The man continued to cook as he explained.

Paddock knew the stupid man would take the bait. 
“Yes, I did.  I stop by here at least three times a year and Mary and I became friends, I continued to stop in to check on her.  You said she got sick then her sister came and took her with her.  What happened to the younger girl who helped her out?  She wouldn’t take care of her?”  Paddock just smiled as the cook explained how one day Dottie just left and never came back.  Then a few weeks later Mary got very sick so her sister came to take her to her home.

I would love to keep in touch with Mary.  You don’t happen to have her number or address so I can find out how she is doing?” asked Paddock. 

Rick bit into the hamburger trying not to laugh as the cook said that Paddock looked like he could be trusted and gave Mary
’s address where Pete was going to send her last paycheck too.

Meadowland Lodge.  Fuck, fuck,” Paddock said loudly as they walked back to the car.

What about Meadowland Lodge?” Rick asked as he opened his Prime’s door.

Getting in the seat, Paddock looked up at Rick. 
“Let’s just say they won’t be welcoming me with open arms there.  That is the area where Reece Ramsey’s clan lives.”

That is the guy you want to kill?” Rick asked menacingly.

“
The same.”  Paddock exhaled as Rick closed the door.

Rick got into the car and pulled out of the parking lot. 
“Where are we headed?” Rick asked.

“
Let’s go do some recon and see what we can find out from this Mary woman.  First we find a place to stay near the lodge then go during the night and check the place out.” 

Rick smiled then sped down the road toward the Meadowland Lodge.

River walked into the dining room looking around for Mary.  She smiled as she found Mary sitting next to the windows looking out. 

“Hey there.”  River came around the table and hugged Mary.  “You look like you feel good today?”

Grabbing River
’s hands, Mary kissed them and smiled.  “Only because of you.  I can’t believe how I feel, River.  You cured me.  You actually cured me.”  Smiling back at Mary, River’s heart swelled with hope for both of them.

I can’t tell you how scared I was when I saw you laying on that bathroom floor with blood all around you.  I thought my heart had fell out of my chest.  You are my family, Mary, and I couldn’t lose you so yes I healed you.  You are like a mother to me.” 

Mary hugged River again, kissing her head as she looked back at her. 
“You are my daughter, River, maybe not by blood but you are my daughter who I love as if I gave birth to you myself.” 

River
’s eyes pooled up with tears as they fell from her eyes.

Okay, no more tears, let’s make some plans because all I can think of now is that I’ve been given a second chance on life and I don’t want to miss a day of it crying about the past.”  River dried her tears with the napkin then looked at the waitress who walked over and took their order for breakfast.

Morning,” Jonas said as he stood in front of the table. 

River didn
’t hear the sneaky devil walk up.  Jonas hugged Mary first, telling her how great she looked.  Mary hugged Jonas back as River smiled at her mate.  She was pleased with how her mate treated Mary.  She was part of her family and River was glad that Jonas and Reece made her part of their family too. 

Jonas turned and kissed River on the cheek then sat down at the table. 
“Mary, I have to say you look great.”

Thank you Jonas.  I feel great.  Getting a second chance on life has done wonders for my energy level,” Mary replied.

Jonas laughed as he put his arm on the back of River
’s chair.  “I’m glad.  River says that you two are going to town to do a little shopping.  She is taking you to the Pottery Shop too.  It is great.  Maybe we can meet up with Reece for lunch around one?”

“
Sounds perfect, Jonas.”  River put her hand on Jonas’s leg letting him know how much she appreciated this from him.

“
However, you must take two guards with you.  I’ve got some last minute stuff to do with the unit and then we will meet you for lunch.”  Jonas watched at the frown that crossed River’s face at the thought of guards being with them.  “Look, River, I’m not going to talk about this.  I won’t be able to concentrate if I’m not there with you.  I have to know you are safe.  He is still out there so we need to think about that.  Okay?” 

Mary answered for River. 
“That will be fine, Jonas.  We will just carry on like they’re not there.” 

Jonas smiled like he had just won the lottery.  He loved Mary now.  River would always try to fight having some type of protection but it was a necessity.  Her protection would be top propriety for Reece and him.  Jonas looked over at River showing him her pout. 

Rolling her eyes, knowing she wouldn’t win this battle.  She remembered Ash telling her some battles you fought hard for and won then the other times you let them win.  This had to be one of those battles.  Plus Mary was with her and she didn’t want something happening to her.  “Okay, okay.  Just as long as they don’t hover.”  River could see the relief in Jonas’s face as she conceded to the guards.

“
You got it, baby girl.  Oh yeah, here is the credit card Reece and I had made up for you.  Now, River, I can see that look, but just listen.  We want more than anything to make you happy and know that we want to do some things for you.  Please buy yourself some clothes and Mary some too while she is here.  This would make us happy.”  Mary reached over and pulled the card out of Jonas’s hand.

For once, River, do something for yourself.  Let’s enjoy the day like regular people do when they go out and shop and have fun.  It is time for you to start living life.  You have two men who love you and you love them so start by letting them do this for you and me,” Mary cajoled.  Mary smiled knowing she had to use the fact they were going to spend money on her too.  River didn’t know that Jonas had already spoken to her and asked for her help on the credit card issue.  Mary was more than willing knowing that River had never had a credit card or any money to spend on herself.  She went to the Goodwill and purchased her clothes and what she had was already worn out.

“
Okay,” River replied.  She reluctantly agreed to it.  She could see how happy it made Mary.  She would only buy a few things because she didn’t feel comfortable using their credit card to buy her clothes.  Mary put the card in her hand then she looked over at Jonas who smiled then winked at her.  She reached over and kissed him on the lips, which were still swollen from the night of beautiful passion and lovemaking she had ever experienced.  “Thank you, Jonas,” River said simply.
