Hell's Bells: Lucifer's Tale (Welcome to Hell Book 6) (12 page)

“The baddest.”

“I might be the king of sin.”

“None can compare,” she said with a smile.

“But I find myself quite liking this abnormal affection I have for you, an affection that is enhanced by my heart.”

“I thought it was black.”

“It is. Mostly.” His lips twisted. “But a teeny-tiny part, the smallest part, is fond of you. Very fond. Why I might even say it loves you.”

“It does?”

“Very much. But”—he leaned down until they touched nose to nose—“tell anyone and I will deny it. And probably kill anyone who hears it.”

“Keep it a secret. Gotcha. No problem. Wouldn’t want to ruin your reputation after all.” She smirked.

“Glad you understand.”

“But since we’re alone, and no one else is around, could you say it again? To me. Please.”

His brow knit. “Manners? In the bedroom?”

She laughed. “What was I thinking?” She grabbed him by the ears and yanked him close. “Tell me you love me, you big fucking bastard, now, or else.”

A slow, sensual grin curved his lips. “That’s more like my wench. I.” He rubbed his nose against hers. “Love.” The word whispered across her lips. “You.” He claimed her mouth, but only for a moment before flipping her onto her back on the bed and rolling away. “Before I forget, I have something for you.” He stood, stretching his youthful frame, preening under her admiring glance.

He then reached within and gave her his present. She totally screamed.

W
hat the hell
are you doing?” She knelt on the bed and held his heart, not a black organ like he’d claimed. Not even gross and bloody like she expected.

It pulsed warmly in her hands. A living. Beating. Part of Luc.

“I am giving you my heart.”

“You do realize that expression isn’t supposed to be taken literally.”

Hands planted on his hips, Lucifer frowned at her. “Wench, stop vexing me. I am giving you my heart because it is my wedding gift to you.”

Expression incredulous, she stared at him. “You would give me your heart. The thing that makes you mortal?”

“I trust you with my life. My affection”—he couldn’t help a curl of his lip—“and my cock. Which, as you know, is technically more important than that defective thing.”

At his repugnance, she couldn’t help a smile. For all his brashness, Luc cared. Cared too much, but as Lord of Sin, he couldn’t let it show, except with her.

His wife.

After shoving it back in his body until she could think of a safe place for it, she then showed him what his love meant to her.

Their passion leveled a few mountains. Woke a few dormant volcanoes. And world peace was declared for all of eighteen seconds. A record.

And while peace couldn’t last forever, they could, a forever that could last a long, long time considering their lifespan, but she could handle it, knowing the biggest, baddest demon loved her.

And together they would rule both Hell and Earth.

A
s they lay curled
in a pile of sweaty limbs, all belonging to living bodies, their own to be exact, Lucifer couldn’t help but feel…happy.

Stupid side effect from the heart he’d given Gaia that needed a good corrupting. He’d gone a long way in starting with his ravishment of Gaia all night long, but it would take some time before his heart achieved its previous level of darkness.

Although perhaps he’d keep a smidgen of it free of sin, just a tiny spot, mind. Nothing like throwing his new wife and family off balance with the occasional sincere compliment or sudden gesture of affection.

He did, after all, care for them, kind of, in a roundabout sort of way that totally made him want to scrub himself in a bath of sulphuric salts.

Damned emotions.

“What are you thinking?” Gaia asked as she tickled her fingers up his chest.

“I’m thinking that, now that we’re married, we should totally torture the minions I’ve matched with couples dinners.”

She giggled. “Sounds like fun.”

“Speaking of fun, where’s my present?”

“What present?”

“Don’t toy with me, wench. You tethered me with a ball and chain. Caused thousands of hopeful women to declare themselves spinsters for life. And I let you have a drawer in my dresser for your stuff. That deserves a present.”

“About that…” She rolled onto her side and propped her head on her hand. “I kind of struggled with what to get you. I mean, you’ve got just about everything a demon can have.”

“I do.” No point in being modest. If he wanted it, he owned it. Or cheated at cards to get it.

“So, I thought to myself, what can I give Lucifer that is kind of unique? That would be something only he would want.”

“Sounds promising. What is it?” A custom-crafted Lucifer-mobile? Another dimension to rule? A reign of darkness over the mortal realm?

Gaia grasped his hand and placed it over her rounded abdomen.

It took him one sharp, indrawn breath to realize what she showed. A spark of life.

A son.

In that moment, his mind flashed as hundreds of visions slammed him with a precognition he’d not experienced since the last time he’d impregnated Gaia.

I’ll be damned.
He might be the eater of souls, but according to what he saw, his son would be the devourer of worlds.

Best present ever.

Fist pump.
