Matthews took over, "Hi Elsie.  Well I have been
busy, not avoiding you if that is what you were going to ask.  Elsie this
is Katilyn, Katilyn this is Elsie Canders." Matthews motioned between the
two of us.

"It's nice to meet you Elsie." I nodded in her
direction and held my hand out for her to shake, which I could tell that she
did reluctantly.  The simple act let me know that she was indeed only
human.

"Mmm, you too.  So are you two ready to
order?" she was very short with her words now.  She took our orders
and was gone.

"Ok, correct me if I'm wrong but did I miss something
with her.  Because she was all giggly with you and then she saw me and
there were these daggers being thrown at me with her eyes.  If you really
could die from looks alone I would be a freaking corpse right now.  Spill,
what the hell is going on?" I kept my voice low, tried to keep my
attention on him, but there was energy in the air that was trying to warn me it
seemed.

Matthews sighed, "You noticed that did you.  Well
long story short, Elsie and I were high school sweethearts, got engaged, and
then I realized that I didn't love her like I thought I did and I called off
the wedding one month before the date.  When my parents died I changed as
a person, but Elsie didn't change with me.  I still proposed to her
despite my feelings and then we stayed engaged for a year before setting the
date.  I still felt differently about her, but I thought I was just going
through a phase.  That was until I told her that I wanted to hold off
getting married because I was still grieving, but she told me it had already
been three years and that I should be over my grieving process.  So, I
canceled the wedding, I even called all the guests and told them myself.
She thought I would eventually change my mind and come back to her, but she
will be waiting for a long time." He finished up as a different waitress
brought us our drink refills.

"Hells bells Matthews.  Why did you bring me here
of all places then?  If you knew your ex fiancé would be here, why would
you put me through this?" then it hit me like a ton of bricks.

"You freaking jerk!  You set me up to look like
your date, didn't you?  Why did you drag me into this quarrel with
her?  What did I do to deserve this torture?" I sighed and dropped my
head on the table with a thud, trying to figure out what to do and what the
hell was that damn energy I was feeling.

"I'm sorry Katilyn.  You didn't do anything to
deserve for me to do this to you.  I was just kind of hoping that she
would just see us together and get the idea in her head that I wasn't coming
back to her, ever.  I was just hoping that she would finally believe that
I had moved on like I really have.  She just chooses to live in a fairy
tale thinking that I will walk back in her life and pick up where we left off
and it's not going to happen.  Will you please just help me get through
this so I don't have to worry with her again, and I will owe you something big
time?" He was pleading with me and it was just that I could help him and I
wanted to.  She sounded like a bitch that needed to be put in her place.

I sighed heavily, "Yeah, I will do it, but just because
you are here with another woman is no necessarily going to make her believe
that we are a couple of lovebirds." I looked at Matthews suspiciously and
then I realized what he had done the past two hours.

While I was innocently enjoying being out with people and
not having to really defend my life, Matthews had made it look like we were a
couple out enjoying the day together.  Oh he is such a jerk and he is
going to pay when this is all done and over with.

"This will go my way and my way only.  No kisses,
some light flirting, and no holding hands.  We are a show couple only and
I will not forget what you are making me do, do you understand that
Matthews?" I said through clenched teeth, I so wanted to deck him in the
jaw right now.

He only smiled big and then touched just the tips of his
fingers to the tips of mine, and once again there was the energy that I could
not explain.

"Yes, I got it.  I will do everything like you
said and I will not push the limit." He smiled again.

Elsie brought us our food just as we were taking our hands
apart and she almost dropped my plate on me, almost.  She left our food
and did not ask if we needed anything else.  We ate and talked like we had
all day, like I hadn't just been duped into doing this ridiculous thing for
him.  After we ate the hostess brought us our bill and a bag each of
jellybeans. Hmm, who knew jellybeans for an after lunch treat.  I excused
myself and headed to the washroom before we paid and left.  Guess who
decided to take her break just as I was washing my hands up.

"So Katilyn, you must be new in town, how long have you
been here?"  She got right to the point, no southern hospitality out
of this belle.

"Yes Elsie I am new in town and I've been here for
almost two weeks now.  I rented that nice lake house on the other side of
town, if you were wondering." I smiled and dried my hands.

"The lake house?  You are renting the lake house
out by Jace?" she asked louder and with a lot of shock in her voice.

"Yep sure am, now if you don't mind…"

Elsie began giggling like a school girl.  "Oh this
has to be a setup.  I mean it's too cruel and too convenient for you to be
renting that house.  The house that Jace and I were supposed to live in
once we were married.  There's no way he would ever date someone he didn't
know.  Thank heavens I thought I was actually going to lose my mind
believing he would fall for someone like you.  So did he decide to pay you
or something?" She washed her hands then.

That gave me a moment to think about what she said.
The house was going to be theirs, did that mean that Matthews owned that
house.  He couldn't I researched the house.  I will figure that out
later, but right now she is going to learn her place.

"As a matter of fact I am renting the lake house that
was to be yours, and I can say that the view in the master suite is
amazing.  It was amazing watching the sunrise this morning with Jace from
the bed.  If all goes well I just might buy the house and make it
permanent.  As for Jace dating someone he doesn't know, he has been
getting to know me and apparently he likes what he has found.  As for a
person like me, I am not one to be bought, conned, or messed with, you would do
well remembering that.  My feelings and my relationship with Jace is
real.  He is the best person that I know and we seem to have a lot in
common, despising snobby bitches seems to be one of them.  He likes me, I
like him, enough said.  SO let me tell you, I am way more than ANY man
could afford, but for Jace I give him my attention and feelings free.  He
is worth that and much more.  Don't mess with me or you will get burned."
I had my say and loved her look of shock that I had put her in her place.

I was leaving but turned back for one last thing, "Now
you be sure to show others your nice southern hospitality that you forgot to
show me, you snide bitch." And with that I left the room, head held high
and mighty proud of myself.

Matthews had a shocked look on his face when I met him by
the front door and got my jellybeans.  We left the diner within moments
and as soon as we were away from prying eyes I turned on him.

"Matthews so help me if you ever put me on the spot
like that again I will not hesitate to knock you on your ass.  I have
never been more uncomfortable or ashamed of myself over my feelings.  I
don't like lying about my feelings, they are my foundation, they guide me and
you just made me turn on them.  I took up for you in that bathroom and put
that bitch in her place, but you, you have some explaining to do.  When
the hell were you going to tell me that I was living in the house that was to
be yours and Elsie's?  I know it doesn't belong to you or your family so
how can you inherit it?" I was not winded because of my powers but I sure
was riled up and I could kill anything had it came at me right then.

"First let me say that you were awesome in the
bathroom, unfortunately anyone in the vicinity of that area heard you two with
your loud voices.  So you are more than any man could afford huh?" he
grinned.

Had he not just heard my outburst? Was I not making myself
clear?
He must have understood my look because he quickly changed his tune.

"Now let me apologize about the whole house
thing.  Actually the house did belong to my family but my mom decided to
have it put into her best friends name whenever it was time for her to inherit
it.  SO technically it would be mine, but it's listed as belonging to
someone else.  I didn't think that it would be that big of a deal, I never
really lived there so I didn't see it as being important." He sat down on
a bench and looked up at me still seething.

"Well that explains why I didn't know it belonged to
you.  I discovered that it had belonged to Grady Sanders for over thirty
years.  So he was your mom's best friend huh?  Not to be rude but why
would your mom have a house put in a friends name and not hers?  Even a
minor can own a house and when she got married they would have just changed the
name on the deed." I sat down beside him a little confused.  He
stated fidgeting and looked nervous.

"How about we take a ride to my house and I will
explain everything that I know then?" he pulled me up and we left.

Chapter 6
--Prophets, Visions, and Witch Confessions

I dropped my Jeep off at my house since it was on the way to
his.  He wanted to take me to his house and I figured I didn't need anyone
seeing my Jeep there if I had to kill Matthews.

"Ok, so are you going to wait until we get there or can
you start explaining anything at all?" I was highly curious with what he
was going to tell me.

Matthews stayed lost in thought for a moment, "Katilyn
how open minded are you?  What kind of things do you believe in?" he
asked very seriously.

I figured the best way to answer this was to be as honest as
possible without sounding like a crazy person and without giving myself away.

"I am an extremely open minded person, there are things
that I believe that most people probably wouldn't.  Hmm, things I believe
in.  Well, I believe in God, Lucifer, and everything in between in the
supernatural world." I told him with absolute certainty.

Now I was really curious where this was going.  Did he
know about me?  Could he be a supernatural being?  If so what could
he be, he had passed all the usual tests.  Had I overlooked something, I
know I had especially with the energy that I felt on him when we touched.
I was freaked out now so I began putting more protection spells on myself.

Matthews drove the remainder in silence and we soon arrived
at his house.  He had a very nice house, a two story bungalow house.
The landscaping was immaculate and the porch looked very homey, places to sit
and relax were all over the place. This house was a place that I could get
comfortable in and restore my natural energies.

"Come on in.  There are things I need you to see
and things I need to tell you, things I have never told anyone."
Matthews had already gotten out of his side and was pulling me out of the truck
towards the house.

The inside of the house was just as beautiful as the
outside.  Neutral colors and clean cut designs.  Picture frames
covered the walls and I tried to focus in on a few select ones but he drug me
on to the kitchen.

The table on the other hand was a mess.  The table was
littered with newspaper clippings, photo albums, and journals, some looked very
old.

"Would you like something to drink?" he asked
going to the fridge.

"No thank you.  What I would like though is some
answers to what the hell is going on with you." I took a seat the table
and started picking through the clippings.

He shut the fridge and took a seat next to me.  He sat
in silence for a few minutes, which I took as him trying to decide how to say
whatever it is he was going to say.

"You said that you believed in the supernatural, do you
believe in miracles or people who can perform miracles?" he was fidgeting
with the papers, but his question was serious.

Miracles…hmm, that is something I didn't really believe in
given the life I was living.  I had never seen one, but I'm not above
lying or manipulating the truth to find out the answers to questions I still
don't even know to ask.

"I believe that miracles can happen, so why not people
who can perform miracles.  Somebody has to help the events happen so why
not.  I've never seen one personally, but I don't see why some people
haven't actually had a miracle happen to them.  Why are you even asking
about this?" That was as honest as I could get without saying a lot of
lies.

"About six months ago I found something that made me
ask these questions and things began happening to me.  I couldn't figure
out what it was until I did all this research and this is where it has led
me.  Now look at these clippings and tell me what you think.  They
are miracles that happen to people in the middle of a tragedy and they
survived.  Some are innocent children and some are already adults.
But the thing that they all have in common is that they were saved by someone
who they never saw before and then they went on to do great things with their
lives.  I think that someone stepped in to intervene in their lives when
something bad was going to happen because that person knew that the victims
would do great things." He started handing me clippings to read and prove
his point.

Twins at age 11- saved from a burning building while
their entire family perished.  At age 17 they created a new state of the
art fire alarm that has saved thousands of lives already.

A woman age 36- was pulled from a car crash that her
husband caused because he was trying to kill her - she left him then she opened
a home for battered women and children two years later and helped women get
back on their feet.
