Hot for Love (Bachelor Billionaire #2) (7 page)

He
heard a loud beep and snapped out of his thoughts. Oh crap! He wasn't
on call. Why were they paging him? They told him they would only call
if they really needed him. Josh had wanted a few days off to help
with Lisa. He ran to her bedroom. She lifted her head and rubbed her
eyes.

What
was that noise?” she asked.

I
have to leave for a bit,” he said. “Will you be okay? Do
you want me to call Becky to come home?”

He
hurried to get his shoes on and make sure he had everything.

I'll
be fine,” she said. “Don't call Becky. She has a meeting
today.”

Stay
in bed. Don't get up. You can't bump your foot or put pressure on it.
Keep it elevated. Do you want me to get you anything before I leave?”
he asked.

Yes,
Doctor Josh,” she said. “I don't need anything. I'll be
fine.”

He
grabbed his keys and turned to walk out of her room.

I'll
be back as soon as I can. I put my number in your phone. Text me if
you need anything.”

Josh,”
she said, as he turned to look at her. “I'll be fine. Take your
time and be careful.”

He
nodded and took off out the door. The whole way to the station he
thought about her. Would she be okay while he was gone? Should he
call Becky or Heath? He couldn't call Heath, because Josh locked the
door on the way out and he had the key in his pocket. As long as Lisa
stayed in bed, she would be fine.

Lisa
opened her eyes and looked at her leg. She was feeling some pain.
When she looked at the clock, she saw that three hours had passed
since Josh left. Was he okay? She had always thought about
firefighters at accidents and small fires. It had never been a scary
profession to her. The night of the apartment fire changed that. How
often did they have to risk dying to save someone? The thought of
dying for a stranger, without thinking twice, scared her. They were
amazing. How could they be so selfless? It wasn't like they made
millions of dollars a year doing it. She had never really taken the
time to think about it before.

She
jumped when she heard a noise. Was someone there? Lisa had not seen
anyone. She heard another sound. Her ankle hurt, and she knew not to
get out of bed. Who was there?

Josh,”
she called out. “Becky, Gavin, Josh.”

Hold
on.”

Josh
walked up to her doorway and she felt her mouth drop open. Close your
mouth, she told herself. He stood there in a towel, with water
running down his chiseled muscles. His hair was wet and so sexy. Lisa
could not get words to come out of her mouth. She sat still, as she
stared at him. The towel barely clung to his waist. It looked like
any small movement would send it crashing to the ground. She felt a
chill spread through every bit of her body. Say something, she told
herself.

Are
you okay?” he asked.

She
closed her eyes and shook her head.

I'm
fine, sorry. I didn't mean to bother you. I didn't realize anyone was
here and heard a noise. I couldn't get out of bed to check. This is
so aggravating. I'm sorry,” she answered.

Lisa
opened her eyes, but made sure not to look at him. Why did he have to
be so damn hot? He needed to keep his clothes on.

I
just got back and was all sweaty. You were sleeping, so I jumped in
the shower. Let me throw some clothes on. I'll be right back.”

Or
just come a little bit closer,” she whispered, as he walked
away.

He
came back in front of the door, with his hands in his hair.

What?”
he asked, with a grin.

Nothing,”
she blushed. “I didn't say anything.”

He
walked away as he laughed.

Brat!”
she whispered.

Josh
walked back into her room a few minutes later. He had on a pair of
basketball shorts and a tight, white t-shirt. His hands were full
with water and different bottles. He put them all on the nightstand.
She laughed and he rolled his eyes at her. Josh handed her the water
and then different pills from different bottles. He wrote something
on a paper he put with the bottles. She took the pills as he left the
room. When he came back, he had two plates of food and silverware.

You
have to eat when you take those pills. Make sure Becky gives you food
with them, or they will make you sick,” he said sternly.

Yes
sir,” she replied, with a chuckle.

Then
don't,” he grunted. “You're the one that will feel it.”

He
turned on the television and changed the channel. She could feel
tension in the air around them. Was it because he was tired of her
already? Was it because of the run he went on? She felt bad for
inconveniencing him, Becky, Gavin, and Heath. The silence between
them stretched on. She couldn't stand it. They could only watch so
much television.

Did
you have to go to a fire?” she asked.

It
was an accident,” he answered.

It
drove her crazy that she could not sit up and move next to him. She
had to keep her leg up. At least that part of healing would only last
seven days. After that, she would at least be able to move around
with crutches. Before he left, things seemed fine. When he came back,
he seemed distant and wouldn't make eye contact, except for in the
doorway after his shower.

Was
it bad?” she asked.

It
wasn't to bad. Everyone was okay. They called me because the other
guys were already out on a run.”

Have
you seen really bad stuff?” she asked.

Yes,”
he answered.

Why
do you do it? Doesn't it bother you?” she asked.

I
don't really like to talk about it. I try not to think about it. I
just want to help people. If someone had been there to help,”
he said, but stopped himself.

Help
who?” she asked.

Nothing,”
he answered. “I'll be back in a minute.”

He
left the room before she could say anything else. What happened in
his life, she wondered? She had not been around Heath's house once
they started high school. Lisa spent time with him in school or at
functions, but they stopped going over each other's houses. Josh had
went away to college and Heath had never mentioned him again. She
didn't want to think about him, so she didn't ask about him. When she
saw him at Heath's house warming party, she was shocked. Lisa had no
idea that they had become good friends.

I
text Becky and Gavin to tell them I brought enough food home for
them. That way, they don't have to cook,” he said, as he walked
back into the room.

Lisa
knew he was avoiding her questions. She didn't have any business
pressuring him to answer her. He was already taking so much of his
time up to help her, and she had no idea why he was doing it. She
felt bad for him, because she could tell something was really
bothering him. He didn't want to talk about it. Josh grabbed their
plates and dirty glasses and took them to the kitchen. She could hear
him moving around and washing the dishes. He was doing a good job of
avoiding her. When he came back into the room, she grabbed his hand.
He looked at her with a shocked expression. She could feel the warmth
from his hand against her skin. He didn't pull away. Instantly, she
felt a safe feeling through her body.

Would
you please sit down and talk to me. I won't ask you anything
personal. You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to. I
just want to talk,” she asked as she sucked in her bottom lip.

She
felt his hand relax in hers as he sat down next to her on the bed. It
was quiet for a few minutes as he looked down at the bed.

I
don't know what you are doing here or why you are helping me, but I
want you to know I appreciate it. My own family wouldn't do as much
for me as you are, and you don't even know me. The only thing you
know about me, is that I had a crush on you when I was a kid. You
don't owe me anything. You have no responsibility for me, and here
you are. If I called my parents, they would tell me to go to a
rehabilitation facility until I was better. Becky has only been my
friend for less than six months, and she has taken me into her home.
I don't know what I would do without you guys. You bought me clothes
and are staying with me. I don't know if you feel sorry for me or if
you are just a genuinely nice guy, but I appreciate you. I am so
thankful for everything you have done for me. Without you, I probably
wouldn't even be here. I know you must be tired of me thanking you,
but you don't understand,” Lisa said.

She
looked over at him, and he was still looking down at the bed.

Will
you please look at me,” she said, as she squeezed his hand. He
slowly looked up at her. “I don't believe in love or happily
ever after, but if I did, I would want you to find it. You are an
amazing and selfless man. What you do for a living is amazing. I
never realized it, but what you do, I can't imagine doing it. You ran
into a burning building to save a stranger, knowing that there was a
chance you would never come out alive. I just never really took the
time to think about what a firefighter really does. It's not about
the money, that I know. I will appreciate every tiny moment, for the
rest of my life. I am going to find a way to show you and everyone at
the station how thankful I am. I don't know what you go through, or
how you do it, but I appreciate what you do. I don't know what you
have been through in your life that you don't want to tell me, or
what is hurting you, but I want you to know that I care about you. I
owe you my life. Without you, I would not be here. No matter what you
need, or when you need it, I will always be there. If you ever feel
like telling me, I will be there to listen.”

Josh
looked into her eyes and leaned closer to her. He put his forehead
against hers and softly kissed her lips. She felt a chill race
through her. His lips were so soft and warm. Slowly she kissed him
back. He put his hand in her hair and licked across her bottom lip.
She parted her lips as she brushed her tongue across his. It was
better than she had ever imagined. She had dreamt about kissing him
for as long as she could remember. He leaned them back on the bed and
slid his tongue into her mouth. She held the back of his head in her
hands, not wanting to let him go. His hair was still damp as she ran
her fingers through it. Josh's breath sent tingles up her spine. She
could feel his heat against her mouth. He deepened the kiss, and she
could feel the passion building. Their tongues swirled around each
other. She pushed her mouth harder against his as she moaned. Wetness
formed between her thighs instantly. If his kiss did that to her, she
could only imagine what it would be like to be with him. Damn, did
she want him.

She
slid her hand across his shoulder and down his chest, as she pulled
him closer. He slowly moved his fingers down her neck and across her
shoulder. She shook slightly. He cupped her breast in his hand, over
her shirt, as he claimed her mouth. She rubbed down his stomach to
the waist of his shorts. Her fingers hooked the band of his shorts
and slowly pushed them down as they brushed against the tip of his
cock. He let out a breath as her fingers made contact with him. She
rubbed the tip with her finger and spread the juice on his tip
around. His hand found its way up her shirt and under her bra, and he
circled her nipple with his fingers. She gasped as her nipple
hardened beneath his fingers.

Josh,”
she breathed into his mouth.

She
pushed her hand down into his shorts and took his hard cock into her
hand. He groaned and bit her bottom lip, as she stroked him. His hand
slid down her body and into the shorts he had bought her. She grabbed
him harder as his hand went into her panties. The feel of his thick
fingers against her felt so good. Lisa felt her kiss deepen against
his mouth. She wanted to take in every breath he let out. He ran his
finger across her slick folds.
