“Christopher Calvin Scott do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded bride to have and to hold as long as you both shall live?”

“I do,” he says. Holding my hand he gives me a wink that still sets butterflies off in my stomach. He asks me the same thing and I nod enthusiastically with a smile as wide as a Cheshire cat.

“Yes,” I say simply.

“Lauren may you do me the honor of having this dance with me?” Dexter asks, extending his hand out to me.

“Of course Mr. Crestfield,” I say with a laugh. The band is playing a slow but up tempo song as we make our way onto the dance floor between my groom and Raven and Mr. Scott and Helen dancing.

“You know when Cal first told me about you, I was worried about him.”

“I was harmless, you should have been worried about me,” I retort playfully.

“You’re the best thing that ever happened to him,” he says, sincerely.

“Thank you Dexter. That means a lot coming from you. Thank you for everything as well,” I tell him. Then I notice my hubby has gotten up on stage with his guitar. Everyone around us stops dancing and looks at the stage.

“I’d like to dedicate this song, to my beautiful, amazing, smart and extremely sexy wife. Who for some reason, agreed to get on this roller coaster with me again. This is for you babe,” he says looking me in the eye and beginning to play the song we first danced to all those nights ago in his apartment. You always hear the phrase ‘fall in love all over again’ with someone. Before I met him I didn’t think it was possible, but I’ve fallen in love with him three times. Once when he called himself Cal, again when he called himself Chris and right now as he plays his heart out for me in front of everyone, keeping eye contact the entire time. When he’s done everyone applauds and catcalls. I start to make my way to the stage when Hillary grabs me and leans over in my ear.

“I know I’ve asked you this a thousand times but come on, you’ve got to tell me, which one is he? He’s got to be Cal, right? But you said Chris knew how to play the guitar, Cal didn’t?” she asks, and for the thousandth time I roll my eyes at her playfully.

“I told you he’s both,” I wink at her. Once I reach the stage he holds a hand out for me and pulls me up on stage with him.

“I love you Mrs. Scott,” he grins at me.

“I love you more Mr. Scott,” I tell him before he pulls me into his arms. I kiss him with all that’s in me and he does the same. Some days I see more of Chris, others he’s more Cal like. Sometimes I even see bits of Collin strangely. Really I’ve learned they’re all just titles to different facets of his personality, categories of his moods.

We dance right there on stage, surrounded by our family and friends. As we sway to the music I feel that familiar trace on my back. I glance up at him and he winks at me and I wink back. I love this man every day, every part of him, and I will for the rest of my life. My beautifully broken Prince Charming and I wouldn’t want him any other way.

Hey there! You reading this!

Thank you for sticking with me through the twists and turns, tears and laughs of the Scotts. These characters have been with me for almost ten years in the making. They sat stagnant for almost four years and Lauren haunted me every so often to give her a happy ending after I wrote the first draft of ‘
if I break
’ back in 2004. These characters have literally changed my life.

You all have changed my life. To think that I have had my dreams come true, telling stories for a living. I cannot say how grateful I am to you all and thank God each and every day for sending you all my way.

I hope you enjoyed Cal/Chris and Lauren’s story. I wanted to end their journey the right way. I hope it met your expectations.

Lisa and Gwen’s story ‘
What Happens After
’ releases Augus 21
st
on all platforms.

I hope you stick with me for all the other stories that play in my head. I do have one favor for you. He was forbidden.

I knew it.

He was never mine to have.

He belonged to someone else.

His heart wasn't free to give.

Still I craved him.

I begged him for it.

His love was addictive.

Our time was never enough.

He shattered my world like I’d shattered everyone else’s.

It was all fun and games before.

I didn't think about what would happen after.

H
ow can you love someone when you know they will never truly love you back because they can’t ever love you back? Your brain should stop you from loving them. There should be a defense mechanism embedded deep within you to stop your soul from allowing you to give your heart to someone who doesn’t deserve it, who doesn’t even want it, someone who
couldn’t
have it even if they did want it.
