In Good Hands (21 page)

His hands paused right before they touched her breasts. “Yes?”

“I've always wanted a high-powered, intuitive executive to do me on his desk.”

His eyebrows arched. “Really?”

“Oh, yeah.”

“Well, I'm a high-powered executive.” His hands finally slipped to her breasts, cupping and teasing them just how she liked.

She arched into his caress, letting her head fall back. “Yes, Roger. Yes, you are.”

“And I believe,” he said as his lips trailed down to her left nipple, “that I'm pretty intuitive, too.”

She gasped as his lips latched on and began to suck. “Yes, I think you qualify. Oh!”

The fire was building beneath her skin. Her legs were going weak and she had to lean back against the desk again for support. He followed her forward, his tongue never faltering as he suckled.

She braced her elbows back, silently thankful that he'd had the foresight to clear it off. “Tell me you have condoms,” she gasped.

“Around you?” he said as he switched to her other nipple. “Always.”

She grabbed his face and hauled him up for a deep kiss. It lasted too long and not long enough. Then she pushed him away.

“Suit up!”

He grinned and did as he was told. Apparently, he'd bought a whole new box and it was right inside the drawer behind the handcuffs. And when he was done, he returned to her mouth, then her cheeks, then one ear.

“On your back? Or bent over the top?” he asked.

She wrapped her legs around him and pulled him tight. She was so ready. He filled her in that single move, and he was a zillion times better than any bioelectronic probe. He was Roger. And he loved her just as much as she loved him.

“Good choice,” he gasped as he took hold of her hips. She helped him build to the right rhythm, tightening and releasing her legs in time with him.

“It's not an either-or,” she answered, her words coming out in breathless gasps. “This is only phase one.”

His eyes opened wide in surprise, but thankfully, his rhythm didn't falter. “I love you,” he breathed.

“I love you,” she answered.

Their tempo increased. He moved his hands beneath her
bottom, cupping her against the friction. She helped him, angling her pelvis in just the perfect way.

He thrust. She gripped.

Once more.

Yes!

Orgasm ripped through her, destroying the last of that wall of fear. He exploded as well, his spirit imbedding deep inside her body and her heart. She closed her eyes to savor the moment. Her orgasm was already fading, but there was an entire ocean of joy as she let her mind absorb what he'd just told her.

He loved her, and she loved him. Everything else would work out.

“Yes,” she whispered before any doubts could creep in.

He blinked, lifting his forehead off her shoulder. “What?”

“Yes,” she repeated. “Yes, I will marry you.”

His face lit with joy. Even his body reacted, lifting with pleasure. “Yes?”

She smiled. “Are you doubting my answer? Can't your ultrasensitive bioprobe tell you whether I'm telling the truth or not?”

He grinned, then swooped in for a kiss. A deep one that expressed more clearly than words exactly what he thought and felt.

“I think,” he said, “that we're going to have to test this particular lie detector over and over in the coming years.”

“I can support that particular line of study.”

He grinned. “Excellent.” Then he waggled his eyebrows as his gaze flickered over his desk. “Now I believe you said something about phase two…”

Epilogue

C
LAIRE CAME IN EARLY,
as was her wont on Monday mornings. She liked getting everything set to rights before people came in. And she especially liked greeting them at their Mondaymorning most vulnerable and finding out what they'd been doing over the weekend. It wasn't politically correct of her, but she loved knowing the people she worked with, especially their weekend habits and any piece of gossip she could glean. But first the coffee had to be started, the doors unlocked and the security tapes scanned.

It was a little detail, but one she took seriously. They were in a high-end technological business. It was important to know who was coming in on weekends to do what. It wasn't nearly as invasive as it sounded. The cameras were in the lab to record what happened in case of an accident, and in the hallways, too. But nothing in the offices unless you left your office door open. Then she could get a good view, usually of paperwork and computer screens.

She was sipping her morning latte when she saw it. Or rather them. Roger, apparently, had forgotten the camera outside his office. Or maybe he'd been too busy to think of shutting his office door. Either way, it was quite the show.

She fast-forwarded as quickly as she could, then deleted
that very long section of the recording. Just because she liked to know the office secrets didn't mean she had to share that information with anyone else. Then she reached over and picked up the phone to order a dozen vegan muffins from the bakery next door.

It was only after she hung up the phone that she sat back and thought about what she'd seen.

“Okay,” she murmured. “So not gay.”
