Details: A man was arrested after agents found he had stored a .380 pistol and 156 rounds of ammunition in a safety deposit box at a bank one block from the White House. The man had been trying to contact Chelsea for some time by writing her disturbing letters. Agents had also arrested him in 1996 in northern Virginia.

Details: A man was arrested after he shot and wounded two people. He planned to shoot Clinton as he got off Air Force One, but security was too tight and the man couldn't reach his desired position.

Location: Miami, Florida
Details: Four Cuban exiles were arrested in their boat while traveling to Venezuela in a plot to kill Castro, who was scheduled to attend an Ibero-American summit on November 6-8. Police seized two .50-caliber assault weapons, 70 rounds of ammunition, night vision goggles, radios, and satellite navigation equipment. A federal grand jury acquitted the men in December 1999.

Details: Forces loyal to Chiluba quashed a coup attempt by disgruntled military officers, arresting nine men including the captain who said an angel told him to overthrow the government. Gunfire erupted around Chiluba's residence in the State House and a broadcast center was seized, but the soldiers were quickly captured. In the months that followed, as many as 84 people were detained, many from opposition parties.

Details: A man walked into a driver's license office and demanded to see Bush. He carried a fake bomb, consisting of a cigar box with a toggle switch. A Texas Ranger and two troopers attempted to talk to him and evacuate the building. When the man pulled a pistol from his waistband, the Ranger shot and killed him.

Details: A man began trial on charges that he had threatened to kill Clinton on several occasions. When arrested, agents found eight knives, two rifles, five handguns (including a laser-sighted pistol), and 250 rounds of ammunition. The man used several different social security numbers, including Elvis Presley's. He was convicted on January 23.

Details: Police arrested members of a white supremacy group, known as "The New Order," plotting to kill Dees and a federal judge. They also planned to bomb the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) by firing a LAW rocket through the front door. Police seized guns, a pipe bomb, and hand grenades. The group also planned to commit bank robberies to finance the plot, and use cyanide to contaminate a large water supply.

Details: Prior to Clinton visiting Eugene, advance teams located two bombs in a culvert near the airport where Clinton would arrive, and detonated both bombs. An anonymous phone tip warned police of the devices. The caller was arrested after police played a tape of the threat over the radio station, and relatives of the man recognized his voice.

Details: Shelton was dining at a restaurant with his wife and several military attaches. An alert bodyguard noticed a suspicious group of men who appeared to have the restaurant staked out. He warned Shelton, and Shelton's group slipped out another entrance, avoiding the men.

They had sent a "Declaration of War" to Clinton and others by e-mail.

Location: Skopje, Macedonia
Details: The Yugoslav army's chief of staff, General Nebojsa Pavkovic, revealed that he was ordered by Slobodan Milosevic to assassinate Blair during his visit to refugees in 1999. The plot called for Pavkovic's team to shoot down Blair's Puma helicopter as it arrived at the airport, using an Orkan Hurricane multiple rocket launcher system capable of firing 288 bomblets. Pavkovic said he had a similar opportunity to assassinate Hillary Clinton when she visited refugees a few days after Blair. Pavkovic stated they decided not to carry out the attacks for fear of retribution.

Details: Jeffrey D. Maasjo was arrested in a courthouse parking lot. He had in his car an assault rifle, 230 rounds of ammunition, a number of smoke grenades, and material for making pipe bombs. Maasjo had been arrested earlier in the month for pulling a knife on a sheriff's deputy who was arresting him for being AWOL from the Marines. Maasjo was upset his knife was not returned to him. He told police he planned to confront the judge who had presided over the case. He also initially told police he had planted pipe bombs around the courthouse, but later recanted.
