Keeping Her (The Lexington Series Book 2) (10 page)

“Yes. I get it.” was his answer.

Lucy turned to me. “Landon stop being
a pain in the ass and do what they say. Follow the goddamn rules and get
checked out to make sure everything is ok.” She told me.

I scowled. “No.”

She crossed her arms. “Fine you
asshole. Then I will find out what’s wrong with you and I am no doctor. I have
a rectal thermometer and I know where you sleep.” She threatened.

I raised a brow. “What the fuck does
a thermometer have to do with anything?”

She laughed. “Absolutely fucking
nothing but I will use it. Want to try me or are you going to just do what
you’re told?” she scolded me. She must’ve seen I didn’t plan on budging and her
voice softened and her eyes pleaded with me. “Just let them make sure that
there’s nothing wrong Landon. Please? For me?” she begged and I saw the genuine
concern.

I sighed. “Fine coach let’s do it.” I
resigned.

“Seriously? As hard headed as you are
a thermometer gets your butt in line?” the coach asked incredulously.

I laughed. “No. My woman threatened
me and asked me. So I’m going to do it.”

Coach turned to Lucy. “Can I bring
you around practice to keep him in check?” he asked.

She laughed. “Sorry coach. But I have
to take care of Max.” she said running her fingers through his hair.

He eyed Max then looked at me. “Is
that your son?” he asked.

Lucy shook her head and Max answered.
“That’s my brother Landon and this is my mom Lucy.” He told him.

Coach looked on confused and Lucy
responded. “We take care of him and he looks at me as a mom but he’s like my
little brother.” She explained.

Coach’s eyebrows hit his hairline.
“You take care of a kid?” he asked me.

I nodded. “Yeah, my little brother.
We all do.” I informed him. He watched me for a while then nodded. I let them
escort me off the field as per the rules and Lucy, Nick, and Max followed. I
caught Lucy’s eye and blew her a kiss which she rolled her eyes to. I’ll show
her ass tonight who’s the boss.

Turned out I just hit the floor hard
and bruised up but there was no injury… like I fucking said. The coach called a
team meeting before anyone left. He began the meeting by complementing our
impromptu performance and still pulling the victory, saying that we showed some
real teamwork out there today. After the compliments were given he went
ballistic. He was pissed about the change in the play. He got on Dylan about
trying to be the star of the show and how he was in no position to call any
shots. He was only on the field because we were short players to begin with.
Coach was pissed with his show and Dylan lost it. He was pissed about losing
his star spot and wanted to show he was the best. Long story short Dylan ended
up digging himself into a grave that got him kicked off the team. His cockiness
was too big for a team sport and coach thought he was more risk than he was
worth. After today I agreed. We all risked ourselves and could’ve potentially
had more players injured than necessary trying to pull weight in positions they
weren’t equipped for. Truth be told, I’m lucky I’m not just some lanky fucking
runner because I would’ve probably been injured.

We got home and I faked a limp the
entire way. Max rode with Nick and Lucy fussed over me the whole way. We got to
the bedroom and I turned to her. “Lucy, help me with my clothes please?” I
asked her. I was capable but I wanted her to touch me.

She came closer to me and went about
removing my shirt. She saw the bruise on my side and gasped. Her fingers
trailed over it lightly to the point I didn’t really feel it. “Landon, oh my
god are you okay baby?” she asked concerned.

I groaned and collapsed onto the bed.
“No, it hurts.”

She came over and sat down next to
me. She lay down on her side and ran her hands through my hair. I loved it when
she did that shit. “Come on, let’s finish getting you changed.” She took off my
sneakers and pulled down my sweats. I was down to my underwear and socks. She
stood up and began to take off her clothes to change for bed. I watched her and
my cock stirred. When her back was to me I got up and walked over to her. I
wrapped my arms around her and placed a kiss to her shoulder.

“Lucy come make me feel better.” I
whined again.

She spun in my arms and looked up at
me. “Let’s get to bed. You want ice or something?” she asked. She was still
concerned and didn’t realize I was faking it. I mean it did smart a bit but it
wasn’t nearly as bad as I was making it seem.

We got into bed together and I
snatched her. “Come here Lucy. I’m hurting.”

Lucy sighed. “I don’t want to touch
you because I might hurt your side.” She confessed.

I sighed. “Baby, that’s not what’s
hurting.” I told her and pressed my erection against her.

She gasped and slapped my arm. “You
faking bastard. Help yourself with that.” She told me with glare. I laughed and
pinched her nipple. She arched into my hand with a moan. That was all the
encouragement I needed. After a few kisses she complied and we had a long night
bruise be damned.

CHAPTER 5

Lucy

It was Valentine’s Day today. I was
pretty excited. Things have been going really well between Landon and I, and I
was hoping that today would be special. Nick volunteered to watch Max for us
since he wouldn’t get to see Mel. I only had one class today and I would have
the rest of the day to myself. Landon wouldn’t be done for another couple of
hours. I knew he wanted to go out and do something and I picked out the perfect
outfit last night with the help of Mel and Erica over facetime. I figure since
I have time on my hands, I can go home and take my time freshening up and doing
my hair and things.

I was walking down the hallway trying
to style my hair in my head when I heard my name. “Lucy?”

I spun around to see Dylan standing
off to the side near the stairs. “Hey Dylan.” I greeted him.

He smiled. “Could you come over here
for a minute? I feel like we’re screaming.” he asked.

I shrugged and walked closer. When I
got to him he grabbed my arm and pushed me back into the corner out of
eyesight. I felt my chest constrict and panic seized me. “What are you doing?”
I asked him trying to get my arm out of his grip.

He stepped in closer. “Oh Lucy.
Didn’t your parents ever teach you stranger danger?” he asked coming closer to
me backing me up further caging me in closer to the wall. I continued to
struggle but he was a lot stronger than I was. My heart was beating out of my
chest. This can’t happen, not again. He ran his index finger along my cheek.
“You’re such a beautiful girl. What are you doing with that tool Landon?” he
asked.

I shrunk. This was about Landon then.
“I don’t know what you mean.”

“Yes you do. Don’t you want a
real
man? One who doesn’t have to use his daddy’s weight and money to get what he
wants?” He asked.

I gagged a little. “Dylan get off of
me. I don’t know why you’re doing this, but please just stop.”

He smirked. “Oh she begs. Do you beg
in bed? I like that type of thing you know. You know that asshole stole my
spot, then my girl, and then got me kicked off the team? Do you love him Lucy?”
he asked with his voice dropping to a whisper.

My entire body shook. I could hear
the hatred in his voice as he spoke about Landon. “Yes.” I told him with all
the courage I could muster.

He tsk’d. “That’s a shame babe
because I am going to destroy that man of yours. And when I do, I might even
let you come back to me and cry on my shoulder. But I might make you beg
first.” He smiled and I grimaced.

Now he was pissing me off. He was
threatening Landon and that immediately made me go into fight mode. With all
the strength I could muster I pushed him off of me and he went back a step. I
stood up to my full height and pointed my finger at him as I spoke. “You will
not. You will leave Landon the fuck alone unless you’ll have to deal with me
too.” I looked him up and down and showed my obvious disdain. “And you’re not
even close to the man he is. You look pathetic next to him.”

He glared and took a menacing step
forward. He lifted his arm and I instinctively flinched. I remembered what it’s
like to be hit by a guy twice my size and it was no walk in the park. But this
time I wouldn’t go down. Before his hand could come down there was a strong
commanding voice to the right. “Is there a problem here?”

Dylan moved back and swung his head
to the side. When he saw Ted he put distance between us and held up his hands
in surrender. “There’s nothing here man. I was just talking to Lucy here.” He
said and began walking off to the side. Ted looked angry and fucking dangerous.
I’ve always known him as the gentle soul that blushed when you spoke to him.
This person, that was commanding and strong and intimidating as fuck was
someone else. I breathed a sigh of relief as Dylan practically ran off.

My shoulders slumped and I looked
over at Ted with gratitude. He looked wary. “Are you okay Lucy?” he asked with
concern.

I nodded my head. “Yea Ted. I’m fine.
Thanks for helping me.” I told him and gave him a sincere smile.

He nodded his head. “You know I’m
telling Landon right? I don’t know what that was about but it’s not for you to
tell me. I’m just giving you a heads up. I’m going to see him shortly.” He
informed me.

I sighed and groaned. Great, I
thought today was going to be a good day and this bastard Dylan just had to go
and ruin it. Now I have to deal with tornado Landon when he gets home. I looked
up at Ted with pleading eyes. “Do you have to?” I whined. “Today is valentine’s
day. That’s going to spoil everything. Can you wait until tomorrow?” I know I
sounded like a two year old but so what.

He gave me a small smile and shook
his head. “So he can kill me next for not telling him? Sorry Luce, I’m diming
you out.” I nodded. I knew this already but it was worth the try.

I went home and started getting ready
anyway. I didn’t want to let Dylan ruin it. Nick would be taking Max to the
movies to see one of those new cartoons that came out. Landon should be home any
minute and the anticipation was driving me crazy. I heard when he pulled up and
if the hard slam of the door or the pounding of his feet up the stairs was any
indication of what was about to come then… it wasn’t good. I took a seat at the
edge of the bed and waited for him. It didn’t take long. He came into the room
and stood just inside the entrance to the room. His eyes were dark and hinted
on danger.

I sighed. “Hey Landon.” I tried.

He didn’t answer and his eyes
narrowed. His breathing was hard and I could see his chest heaving. “What
happened Lucy?” he asked.

“Landon can we not do this now?” I
asked him.

His eyes narrowed and came towards me
until he was standing directly in front of me. “We have to do this now.” He
corrected me.

“Apparently you did something to piss
him off and he wanted to let me know he is gunning for you. That pretty much
sums it up.” I told him.

His eyebrow rose. “Did he touch you?”
he asked.

I shrugged. “That
may
have
happened.”

He put his hands on his hips. “Stop
fucking around Lucy and answer me.”

I sighed. “Fine Landon. Yes he did
but I’m fine. He didn’t hit me and I will survive.” His nostrils flared and I could
see our day going down the drain. I grabbed his hand and tugged him to me. He
came and sat on the bed next to me. I cradled his face and spoke to him softly.
“Landon, I know you’re angry and I’m not too happy either but I was really
looking forward to today. Can you please not let him take this away from us?”
Landon let out a long breath and nodded reluctantly. I pressed a soft kiss to
his lips. “And can you promise not to do anything crazy and get yourself in
trouble or kicked off the team? He isn’t worth fucking up your future.” This
time he rolled his eyes. I arched an eyebrow. “I’m serious Landon. Now promise
me you’re not going to go to school tomorrow and lose your shit on him.”

“Fuck Lucy. Fine, are you happy now?”
he asked pissed off but I didn’t care. That was all I needed. I nodded again
and kissed him. He deepened the kiss and lured me down to the bed. When he
started to go for my shirt I broke off the kiss.

“Oh no you don’t! We are going out
mister so get your ass up and get ready. I’m excited.”

He laughed. “Come on Lucy, we can
make this quick.”

I scowled. “I am not stupid Landon.
You don’t do
quick
and you barely do once. You are not going to keep me
trapped in this room underneath you today you freaking rabbit.”

He gave me one last peck and sighed.
“Fine Lucy. You’re fucking bossy today you know that?” he grumbled.

I smiled and nodded. “Yes, now do
what I say. Oh and the room is mine so get your shit and get ready in another
room.”

He shook his head. “Girl, you’re
really into this aren’t you?”

I nodded. “Technically this will be
the first time I actually celebrated so yes.” I admitted.

He smiled and hugged me placing a
small kiss to my temple. “Ok then. I’ll try my best to make it perfect for you
angel.” He whispered and I melted. I gave him one last kiss then shoved him out
of the room.

I was doing the finishing touches on
my hair when Landon banged on the door for the third time. “Hurry up woman
before I leave you. What the hell is taking so long?” he complained.

I rolled my eyes and ignored him. I
took one final look at myself in the mirror. It was pretty cold out so I had on
these grey and pink pinstriped fitted trousers that made my ass Oscar worthy. I
paired it with a matching pink cowl neck shirt. I completed the outfit with a
pair of ankle boots. I smiled to myself, I think I did well. I opened the door
and stepped out and Landon was missing. I frowned and headed downstairs. There
were really only two other places that I would find him, the family room or
kitchen. Of course he was in the kitchen sitting at the island snacking on some
chips. When he heard me enter he looked up and his hand stopped midway to his
mouth.

“Lucy go change.” He demanded.

I looked down and my shoulders
dropped. “You don’t like it?” I asked him.

He stood up and walked over to me.
“Yes I like it. I like it a whole fucking lot. Turn around.” I spun in a slow
circle. “No one else should see you like this that’s why you need to change.
Have you seen your ass girl?”

I threw my hands on my hips. “I am
not changing because of that you punk. Are you ready?” I asked him and he
nodded. “Where are we going anyway?” I asked him.

“You’ll see when we get there. It’s
only 5:00 and we have a few things to do and I have to make sure I get you home
before too late because you have school tomorrow. And we need to make sure we
have energy and stuff for sexy time later. That’s a definite for Valentine’s
Day just in case you didn’t know.” He told me and I rolled my eyes.

He grabbed my hand and led me
outside. There was a black Mercedes parked out front. He walked me to the car
and a driver got out to and opened the door for us. I slid in and he followed.
I turned to Landon and smiled. “You got a chauffeur?” I asked him.

He nodded and pulled my hand up to
his mouth to place a gentle kiss. “Yea baby. What does it look like?” he asked
amused. I swatted him and sat back to enjoy the ride.

We pulled up in front of this fancy
looking Italian place. He led me inside and the place was packed. There were
more than a few couples waiting to be seated. We however were immediately taken
to seats in a cozy little corner, he made reservations. He ordered a shrimp
scampi telling me that no one makes his favorites like I do so he wouldn’t put
himself through the torture. I ordered chicken parmesan and he got us a bottle
of champagne. We talked and laughed throughout dinner and I have to admit that
Landon brought on the romance.

When we left we went the opposite way
of home. I looked over at Landon in question. “Where are we going?”

He shrugged “somewhere.” Was all he
said, I asked a few more times but he wouldn’t cave. I was bouncing with
excitement today had already went so well.

We pulled up just to the edge of town
where the road went up high. I’ve never been out here before. It’s a bunch of
wooded area past the end of the road. Landon pulled me out of the car and I got
nervous. “Is this where you finally kill me?” I asked him as he guided me
towards the trees.

He chuckled. “Yes and you can’t run
in those shoes… so say your final goodbye’s now.”

I sighed. “God I’m going to miss Nick
and all of his hotness.”

Landon grunted and grabbed me around
the waist picking me up. I squealed and he placed me down gently but didn’t let
go. He gave me a soft kiss on the lips. “You’re going to miss Nick huh?” He
asked.

I nodded and smiled. “Yes, and Max…
Erica and Mel too. Of course my dad and Sam…” I trailed off and tapped my chin
as if I were thinking.

“That’s it?” he asked in a whisper.

I kissed him softly. “Oh I don’t
know. You think I’m forgetting someone?” I asked him.

He nodded. “Maybe I should refresh
your memory?” he asked. When I nodded he
really
kissed me. When he
pulled back I had to fan myself. “You ready?” he asked and I nodded. I’d go
anywhere with him right about now.

The trees were thick and it was a
little scary. It was dark out and I was afraid a bear or something was going to
jump out and bite my head off. I was clutching onto Landon so hard I know it
had to hurt him, but he didn’t complain. After walking for a few minutes the
trees started to thin out leading to an open field. There were a bunch of
different colored flowers all around. In the center were a basket and a
blanket.

I looked up at him, “you planned a
picnic for
after
dinner? I know you’re greedy and all but don’t you
think that’s a tad excessive?”

He laughed and tugged on me to keep
walking. He led me to the blanket and sat down pulling me with him. “It’s not
dinner, its desert. Now stop complaining and enjoy it girl.” I smiled and
settled myself in between his legs. He grabbed the basket and pulled it closer.
He took out a container of strawberries and I moaned. “Now who’s greedy?” he
murmured and I laughed. He picked up a second blanket that was underneath the
basket and covered us with it. I was grateful because let’s be real, it is not
summer time. I wouldn’t have complained given that this is the most romantic
thing he’s done… but I was cold.
