Keeping Her (The Lexington Series Book 2) (15 page)

CHAPTER 7

Lucy

Things seemed to have gotten back to
normal. I didn’t receive any more threatening messages and my nerves have
calmed, it’s been about a month. I was comfortable again in my own skin. Landon
seems to be getting a kick out of this tit for tat thing he’s doing with Dylan.
Like his own personal entertainment. When I finished class I was walking down
the hall and my stomach rolled. I bee lined to the bathroom and threw up. This
isn’t the first time, and I’m pretty sure I know what this meant. I headed to
the medical room and signed in. There were two other girls there waiting. It
took about 30 minutes before I was called inside.

“Hello there dear. What can I do for
you today?” she asked.

I gulped. “I would like to take a
pregnancy test.” I told her in a small voice.

She looked at me and gave me a forced
smile with a nod. She went into a cabinet and retrieved a box. “You can use the
bathroom right there and pee in this cup for me.”

I nodded and got up to go to the
bathroom. I had to use the bathroom pretty badly but it was like my nerves were
stopping me. Finally nature took over and I filled the cup. My hands were
shaking pretty bad and I had to put the cup down and steady my nerves so that I
didn’t drop it. I made my way back out into the room and handed the nurse the
cup. She opened the box and stuck the stick in and turned back to me.

“I’m just going to head out really
quick. When I come back, the results should be ready. Hold tight.” She told me.

I nodded and paced while I waited. It
seemed like forever when really it was only a minute or two. I was biting my
nails in worry. I tried not to think about what it would mean for either option,
we’ve been using protection and was a lot more conscience of being careful. The
nurse came back into the room and checked the stick. She turned back to face me
and smiled. “Congratulations. It’s positive, you’re pregnant. Now I can give
you some prenatal vitamins that I have on hand here, but you need to schedule
an appointment with your OB to begin prenatal care.”

I forced a smile and nodded. How does
this keep happening? Fucking Landon is driving me crazy he’s got like mighty
sperm. I’m about to recommend he donates for families that are struggling. I
headed home with a million thoughts running through my mind. It was close to
the time Max gets out of school so I stopped at the Chinese restaurant and got
two eggrolls. I devoured them in the car and then headed to pick up Max. I took
us home and at his request cooked baked ziti. I was tossing together a salad to
go with dinner when Landon and Nick came in together. Nick slapped my ass and
placed a wet kiss on my cheek. I giggled and heard a slapping sound and Nick
groan. Landon must’ve hit him. Landon came up behind me and nuzzled my neck
while he wrapped his arms around me. He grinded into me and bit my ear. I
yelped and he chuckled.

I sniffed. “You had chocolate.” I
accused.

He laughed. “What the hell are you a
hound or something?”

I elbowed him. “I smell it.” I
sniffed again. “It was a
snickers
? And you didn’t bring me any?” He
backed up and I spun around to face him placing my hands on my hips. “I want a
snickers Landon.” I demanded.

He was looking at me amused and
curious. “Since when are you crazy about chocolate you’re ready to bite my head
off for having some without you?” he asked.

I shrugged. Please don’t tell me that
my pregnancy craving is freaking chocolate. I’m going to blow the hell up like
a balloon. “I just want chocolate is all.” I told him spinning back around to
finish the salad.

“Aw baby, I’ll make it up to you.” He
told me.

“Too late.” I pouted. “I want it
now.” I stomped my foot for emphasis.

“Stop being a baby. Now what you got
in the oven?” he asked.

“Nothing for you we’re not sharing
today right?” I asked.

He laughed. “I’m eating tonight.
Whether it’s what you cooked or when you get in bed later. I’ll survive.” He
whispered in my ear and I felt the tingle between my legs.

Dinner was ready shortly after and I
made everyone’s plates. I was starving so I loaded up my plate the way I do the
boys. I set out the food and everyone dug in. I was eating like a mad man when
I realized no one was talking. I looked up with my mouth stuffed to see Nick
and Landon staring at me.

“What?” I asked with my mouth full.

Nick cringed. “Eww Lucy, that’s just
gross. You could’ve kept that to yourself. Don’t you have table manners?”

Landon shook his head. “Did you eat
today?” he asked.

I nodded. “Yes. I had breakfast and
lunch and two egg rolls before I picked up Max.” I told him then kept eating.

“So why are you acting like your
starving?” Landon asked.

I finished chewing the food in my
mouth and swallowed. “Because I
am
starving are you going to keep
interrupting me?”

“I just never saw you eat like this.
And you already said you ate more today than you usually do.” He said.

Now I was pissed. He was seriously
messing up my meal. “Landon, if you don’t let me eat I will castrate you. Don’t
you know better than to come between a pregnant woman and her food?”

I rolled my eyes and went about
eating when Nick spoke up. “Holy shit! I knew my little swimmers were still
kicking. Way to go me.”

I looked up and narrowed my eyes at
him. “What are you talking about?”

He looked at me confused. “You just
said I knocked you up Lucy.” Nick said.

I choked on the food in mouth. How
the hell did I let that slip? I am way too hungry to be having conversations
with these people. I glanced over at Landon and his fork was suspended in the
air and his mouth was hanging open while he gaped at me. I took a drink of
water and gave him a small smile.

I shrugged. “Oh yea, I found out
today I was pregnant.” I told them.

Nick fist pumped the air and Landon
didn’t move. I ducked my head and kept on eating. After a few minutes Landon
continued eating but he didn’t mention anything about me being pregnant. I
couldn’t read him, his face was a mask but I did catch him keep sneaking
glances at me. I cleared my plate and got seconds. The table was totally silent
and it was so weird. Even Max wasn’t talking, but then again he was busy
shoveling food in his mouth. He really did like anything with tomato sauce,
cheese, and pasta. After dinner we all hung out in the family room. I crawled
onto Landon and laid my head on his chest. He got up really early to head to
bed and my heart sank. I kind of felt like he was ignoring me, he didn’t even
hold me when I was sitting with him. I stayed downstairs until I could barely
keep my eyes open. I dragged my tired body up to our room not sure what to
expect. When I went inside, I found Landon sitting at the head of the bed with
his laptop and notebook. He was doing homework.

I grabbed a change of clothes and
headed to take a shower. When I was done I climbed in bed and lay on my side. “Lucy,
look at this.” I heard Landon murmur. I twisted around to look at him. His gaze
was still fixated on the computer screen. I pulled myself to a sitting position
and looked at the screen. He had up a website for a hospital. I looked closer
and saw that it was a list of OB/GYNs. My eyebrows arched as I looked at the
notebook where he’d been writing. There were all types of information about
pregnancy and doctors. He came up here to do research?

“Landon, what are you doing?” I asked
him.

He met my eyes. “I’m looking for a
doctor. I read online that we should go see one as soon as possible so we can
see how far along you are and stuff.” He shrugged. “And I was looking for a
doctor. I read how…
intrusive
the appointments are so you can only see a
woman. A straight woman.”

I scoffed. “Are you for real Landon?”
I asked him and he nodded.

“I narrowed it down to these three
people. I’ve looked them up and read their reviews. I’m going to call in the
morning to schedule an appointment for us to go in. We can always change the
doctor if we don’t like her.” He informed me.

“Huh. So you just have it all figured
out?” I asked him.

“Yes Lucy I do.” He closed the laptop
and put it on the nightstand with his notebook. He grabbed my hands in his. “I
need to know that you want this… that you’re keeping it.” he told me.

I held his eyes so that he could see
how serious I was. “Landon, I’m never going to do that again. When I finally
realized what I did, I thought I was a monster. This happened, and we can do
this together.”

He gave me a bright smile. “I love
you Lucy.” He said and gave me a soft lingering kiss.

“I love you too Landon.” I told him.
He cut off the lights and held me to him. He rubbed circles over my stomach
until I fell asleep.

The next day when I came out of my
last class, Landon was standing there waiting for me. I walked up to him and he
wrapped his arms around me and kissed my forehead. “Hey baby, how was class?”
he asked.

I smiled. “Long, and I’ve got some
serious homework to do.” I told him.

He nodded and grabbed my hand to lead
me outside. “We have an appointment in 30 minutes, let’s head to the hospital.”

I quirked an eyebrow and shook my
head. “You sure don’t waste anytime do you?”

He laughed. “You should know me
better than that by now.”

He led me to his car and headed to
the doctor’s office. We checked in and were immediately taken into a room. Mr.
Punctual made sure that we got there on time by running stop signs. The doctor
asked me a series of questions which I stumbled over like when was my last
period. Do girls honestly keep track of stuff like that? She rolled over some
machine with a screen on it. It looked like a weird computer. She had already
had me change out of my clothes and into a gown. She lifted up the gown and
exposed my stomach. She pressed a few buttons and the screen changed but it
didn’t show anything.

“This is going to be cold ok?” she
asked. I nodded my consent and she squirted some blue goo on me I shivered on
contact. She put this wand like thing on top of the goo and began to move it
around. I watched the screen assuming I’m supposed to see the baby on there but
I saw nothing. Landon was standing next to me holding my hand eyes glued to the
screen. She twisted the wand around some as she probed and prodded my stomach.
Finally she said, “And there we go. I found him, that’s your baby right there.
Would you like a picture?” she asked.

“Yes. Can we have a few?” Landon
answered immediately.

I squinted at the screen. “I’m sorry
but I don’t see the baby.”

Landon stepped forward and pointed to
a small blob on the screen. “It’s right there babe. I see it.”

I frowned. “That blob? It doesn’t
look like a baby.”

Landon laughed. “That’s because the
baby is really small Luce. It’s not fully formed yet. It’s not going to look
like a baby the way you’re expecting this soon.” He explained.

The doctor laughed. “Someone’s been reading.”

Landon shrugged. “I have. I’m curious;
I want to know what’s going on and how to make sure the baby is healthy.”

“Were you planning for this?” she
asked.

I laughed. “No we’ve actually been
using protection. How this one managed to break a couple of condoms is beyond
me.” I admitted.

“Well we’ll get into the dos and
donts shortly. So you’re about seven weeks along. That would put your due date
as November 8. You can go ahead and get dressed now, and then we’ll have a
chat.” She told us and walked out of the room.

When she left I turned to look at
Landon. “November 8. We’re actually having a baby.”

Landon walked over and kissed me. “Yes,
we are. Now get dressed so that we can finish this up.”

We walked over into the doctor’s
office and she handed us a bunch of papers. There was information about what to
eat and what not to eat, things like that. Landon took all of the papers and
started scanning them. She gave me prescriptions for prenatal vitamins and told
me about some of the uncomfortable things I may experience like morning
sickness, gas, constipation, and bloating. She scheduled for us to come back in
a month, and warned me to come in or go to an ER if I have any cramping or
pains or if I am excessively sick and have trouble keeping fluids and food
down. I need to make sure more than anything I stay hydrated. When we were done
we thanked her and headed out. Landon took me back to campus to pick up my car
and I followed him home. I had a lot of work to do for school so we decided to
order dominos. I ordered three medium pies, and a ton of hot wings. At the last
minute I added on cheesy bread and a bunch of the different dips. By the time
the food came I was ravenous.

I went straight for the wings and
devoured a few of them. I spotted the blue cheese and I started to drool. I
popped it open and grabbed another wing. I dipped it in and made sure I got
maximum blue cheese. I was lifting it to my mouth when it was snatched from my
fingers. I looked up to see Landon polishing it off. I picked up another and
dipped it and he snatched it from me again. I frowned.
