Madi immediately sprung from the horse, her hat falling from her head and held only by the strap around her neck. It took her a while to manhandle the calf, dropping it to the ground. They’d chosen the smallest calf they owned, but it still had some weight to it. Eventually, she knelt down, taking hold of the calves’ two back legs, securing them to one of its front legs. With a smile on her face, she turned, lifting her arms triumphantly in the air. “How did I do, boys?”

“Just great, Madi,” Tyler called, whooping with delight.

“Nice job,” Gabe praised as she released the calf and then walked over to them. Her jeans were covered in dust, and her face bore evidence of dirt. Gabe thought the smudges on her nose looked kinda cute. Madi had taken to ranching like a duck to water. She was a natural. At that moment, he thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world, and he knew Ty felt the same way.

A beaming smile to her face, she jumped the corral fence and threw herself into their arms. “I reckon I’m a real cowgirl now.”

“You bet, honey,” Tyler said, picking her up and whirling her around as if she’d just won the lottery.

Gabe held out his arms, and Madi melted into his embrace. “Yep, a very special cowgirl, Madi Allen, and you’re all ours.”

“And I wouldn’t want it any other way. I’m following my dreams, boys. I’m living life to the full.”
