But Lucius still had hold on my hand and this time he was leading me directly towards the rocks where Zephal’s body lay.

Lucius was behaving like an excited child who had suddenly found the greatest treasure anyone could have imagined and it wasn’t the most pleasant thing to be looking at.

It was definitely Zephal – his face was clearly visible, but his body was contorted completely out of shape – mainly due to the impact as he hit the rocks.

But it suddenly came to me that since I had been involved with  Lucius and Zephal, the two men had often shown signs of incredible strength and agility – and it made me wonder how come Zephal lost his life and Lucius didn’t.

But again that question would have to wait as Lucius let go of my hand and proceeded to pick Zephal’s body off the rocks and carry him towards the mouth of the cave.

He placed Zephal on the sand and as he looked down at him, he laughed.

              “Looks like he’s finally dead!”

I was shocked at the cold and callous way Lucius had spoken, but he continued regardless.

“I have waited for what has felt like eternity to be able to stand tall above this piece of scum’s body!
I hope this son of a bitch rots in hell!”

And with that, Lucius sprang forward and kicked Zephal’s lifeless body in the chest, making it flip over onto its back.

I was horrified at Lucius’s sudden outburst and as he went to kick out again, I grabbed hold of Lucius’s arm in an attempt to calm him down.

But Lucius was so full of rage right now and I feared for my own safety as he towered over me, looking down at me with dark red lifeless eyes.

Gone was the protective Lucius I once knew, replaced by nothing more than an animal.

Without warning, he lifted his right hand and brought it down across the left side of my face with such force that I immediately fell onto the sand.

I tried to get up and he made contact with my face once again, sending blood flying through the air as he split my lip. I fell onto Zephal’s body and as I did so, some blood dripped onto his face.

Lucius lifted me off Zephal and grabbed hold of my throat and I could see the enjoyment he was experiencing right now as he began squeezing.

Then suddenly from out of nowhere, a female voice echoed.

“Lucius, leave her be! You promised to bring her to me alive!”

Lucius immediately let go of me and turned to face a hooded figure.

“I am sorry, Alana!” Lucius said as he knelt down on one knee.

“I knew I could count on you, Lucius. Bring the girl – tomorrow we prepare for war against Gereziac’s army.”
