Let Me In (14 page)

He snagged her hand, grinned. “Let’s go eat some chow, roomie.”

“I’m starving.”

“Me too,” he replied, letting his gaze sweep suggestively over her body. Every nerve ending flared to life as she thought of the things he would do to her later. They’d been apart for too long.

“Stop trying to seduce me out here in the garden,” she said with a laugh. “Food first.”

Emerging from the shelter of the tree into the bright sunlight, she glanced up in time to glimpse three heads ducking out of view in the large bay windows that overlooked the backyard. “They were spying on us.”

“Are you surprised?” Liam strode through the front door ahead of her, grinning like an idiot as he pulled her inside and shut the door. “She said yes,” he called out.

A loud whoop came from the kitchen. Angie, Mrs. Brodie and Talia’s mother appeared in the dining room entryway, all smiling.

Blushing, Talia nudged him in the ribs with an elbow. She couldn’t believe he’d told everyone what he was going to ask her. “You make it sound like you proposed,” she whispered.

“Yeah.” He twined his fingers through hers, raised her hand to his lips for a kiss and looked her straight in the eye. “Consider this a dress rehearsal.”

For a moment she thought she must have heard him wrong. Liam was promising a future filled with everything she’d ever wanted: A lifetime of his love, his vow of a lifelong commitment, a permanent place in his family.

Rising onto her toes, she kissed him in a silent vow of her own commitment, then eased back to stare into his eyes. “I love you. And when you ask me—on bended knee because that’s the way I’ve always imagined it—I’ll say yes.”

His dark eyes twinkled with amusement. “Good to know.”

Walking into the dining room with the others, this time Talia knew she truly belonged. As of this moment she was finally going to experience the happily ever after she’d always dreamed of.
