Logan felt the contractions around his cock and prayed what he was about to do wouldn’t make him come before she did. Depressing the button, he clicked on the remote, causing it to vibrate. Logan tugged at the vibrating plug, withdrew it and pressed it in again. At the same time, he imbedded himself into her tight pussy. He’d decidedly gone from the frying pan into the fire. Between the vibrations and her walls milking him, Logan fought the urge to climax.

“Yes, please. Oh God, what is that? It feels…it feels amazing. Don’t stop,” she encouraged. So full, she gasped as the vibrations spread from her bottom to her pussy. Welcoming the dark intrusion, she pushed back on him, allowing him to guide it in and out of her. Wynter knew she was going to come again but wanted to fly at the same time as Logan. Pleading for more, she lost the ability to speak coherently. “Fuck me, fuck me now. I’m…going to…again.”

Breathing heavily, he looked down to see his rigid flesh disappearing into his sweet mate. She gripped him like a vise, the plug tantalizing the length of his shaft. At her words, Logan began to surge in and out of her and with a final thrust, he slammed into her, stiffening in release.

As Logan took her one last time, Wynter came with him. The deep shuddering orgasm reached every cell in her body. Shaking with ecstasy, she fell to the floor, bringing him on top of her. He quickly brought them safely onto their sides and removed himself and the toy. She moaned as Logan stood, covering her tingling skin with a blanket.

A warm cloth between her legs silenced her calls for him. Logan tenderly cleaned both Wynter and himself, discarding the towel and the toys into the bag. Cradling his mate into his strong arms, he lifted her. Euphoria rushed over Logan as he trod up the steps to his room. He’d never experienced such contentment. His heart felt as if it would burst; he loved Wynter with all of his being.

Wynter cuddled against Logan, kissing at his chest as he took her upstairs. He smelled of sex and masculinity, and she resolutely immersed herself in his scent. Within minutes, Logan had snuggled them into his feather-soft bed, and she lay wrapped in his arms. Abounding with happiness, Wynter reveled in the drugging sensation. As she drifted off to sleep, the words she’d been holding back slipped from her lips,
I love you.

Chapter Twenty-Three

With the room bathed in sunlight, Wynter nuzzled against the pillow. The fog of sleep hung thick in her mind. Reaching blindly for Logan, she stretched a long arm across the bed and found it empty. A groan escaped her lips. Sweeping her arm back to her body, she caught the thin edge of a paper. A note? She squinted as the beams of light accosted her vision. Adjusting to the brightness, she read it:
Good Morning Sweetheart, Breakfast is downstairs. Had an appointment I couldn’t miss. Love you, Logan.
Love? Oh God…she’d told him she loved him. Maybe he didn’t hear it. Or maybe he did? She wasn’t sure how she imagined telling him she loved him, but she had hoped she wouldn’t fall asleep afterward.

After she’d used the bathroom, she showered and got dressed. Deciding on simplicity, she’d thrown on a sports bra, pink tank top and black yoga pants. She finger combed her wild mane, pulling it into a messy bun. Taking a glance at herself in the mirror, she looked and felt relaxed despite the fact that someone was out to kidnap her. She shoved the negative thoughts away, but reminded herself to ask Logan about getting the lab equipment. Unsure of what had happened to her blood samples, she wanted to test herself as soon as possible.

Giving her wolf senses a tryout, Wynter closed her eyes. From what she could tell, coffee was on but she couldn’t smell anything else. Some wolf she was. Laughing inwardly, she went in search of Logan.

As promised, bagels and croissants sat in a linen-covered tray on the kitchen table. She bit into a crescent-shaped flaky goodness, releasing a sigh. Worth every calorie, she thought. As she looked for the coffee, she caught a glimpse of the granite-covered island, and her cheeks blushed. Never again would she look at that counter the same way or forget the most incredible sensual experience of her life.

Spotting a carafe, she poured herself a large mug. The chicory tasted every bit as good as it smelled. A blur of movement outside caught her attention. She crept over to the window cautiously, unsure of her safety. Upon a closer look, she saw Logan, Dimitri and a child. Logan was pitching to the young boy, who looked as if he was hanging on the Alpha’s every word. Dimitri crouched behind him pounding his glove into a catcher’s mitt.

This was Logan’s appointment? Wynter smiled. She opened the slider, waved at him and then shut the door behind her. Logan winked and then quickly focused back on their game. The patio stones warmed her bare feet but she managed to make it over to a comfortably worn Adirondack chair. Sitting under a large southern oak tree, she admired the trailing sprigs of resurrection fern that carpeted its trunk and sprawling branches. Nearly two hundred feet from the house, the slow moving bayou teemed with wildlife.

A crack of the bat drew her focus. The boy hit a far one that went sailing over Logan’s head. Logan took off in a sprint to get the ball while the hitter ran invisible bases. Dimitri waited at home base ready with a high five. Logan gave the kid a thumbs up in response.

Captivated, Wynter watched the Alpha and his beta instruct the boy. Fluctuating between serious discussion and excitement, the trio played baseball. She watched in both curiosity and admiration. A warmth settled in her chest as she witnessed yet another side of Logan. She’d seen him as a fighter, the first night she’d met him. Later as rescuer. Then at his office, the commanding businessman. She’d seen the Alpha, the leader giving the eulogy. The lover, who was adventurous, dominant and caring. And before she could stop the thought, she pictured him as a father. Father to her own children.

Wynter’s words resounded in Logan’s mind.
I love you.
Maybe she hadn’t meant to say it…but she had. All he knew was that he loved her too and couldn’t wait for her to shift. Because once she shifted, she’d be able to mark him. Then after they caught the killer, they’d formally mate. It would be fucking torture waiting; his wolf would protest.

He hated leaving her in the morning, wanting nothing more than to sink himself back into her sweetness. But he’d promised René a game of ball. Practice really. Little league was coming up in the spring. Soon all the pups would be over at his house, wanting to play with him. Logan prided himself on his pitching skills, but always made sure he let the boys get a hit off the Alpha. He taught skills and tried to boost their confidence.

Before René came over, he’d talked with Dimitri about helping with Wynter’s shift. Logan wanted Wynter’s first transformation to be peaceful and erotic, not traumatic. Not only could Wynter’s libido go off the charts, he worried that the she-wolves would attempt a challenge. Two months had gone by and he’d already watched them fighting for their place in his life. And there was no denying the fact that Luci had shared his home. He thanked the Goddess he’d never given in and had sex with her. Regardless, she’d aggressively defend what she perceived as hers. Logan told Dimitri how he planned on letting Jake take the pack while they kept pace with Wynter. Slowly they’d merge, when she was ready, not a second before that. He’d keep her safely tucked between them until the time was right. Fiercely protective, he swore no one would harm a hair on her head.

Logan watched as Dimitri approached Wynter. He’d asked him to talk with her before tonight. Even though it wouldn’t be the first time he’d ever shared a woman with Dimitri, he made it clear to him; Wynter was his and his alone. As such, his beta would have to pay close attention to his directions. While his beast possessively insisted on keeping her to himself, he suspected her shift would be rough. They’d let Wynter decide how much or how little sexual relief she needed afterwards. He expected that by the afternoon, her senses would flip into high alert, causing her to become extraordinarily aroused. Hunger. Thirst. Smell. Lust. Her body would prepare for the metamorphosis.

Anticipating a spectacular experience, Logan struggled to contain his excitement. He could not wait to see her as wolf. Keyed up, he needed an outlet. Challenging René to a race, he took off in a sprint across the property.

“Hey cher,” Dimitri said with a smile. He pulled off his shirt revealing the prominent ridges of his stomach. “Damn, it’s hot.”

“Yes it is.” Wynter smiled. She couldn’t stop her eyes from roaming over his expansive chest. As tall as Logan, he looked as if he was a body builder, not too bulky, but broad and hard.
Shit, what the hell was wrong with her?
“Game over?”

“Yeah, René’s a great kid. Logan’s runnin’ him back to his mamma’s.”

“Looks like fun.”

“So, uh, made up with the Alpha, I see,” he commented.

“Yes.” Her cheeks turned pink. Just what had Logan told him?
Bad wolf.

“How’re you feelin’ today?”

“Um, okay.”

“Logan and I talked this morning. About your shift.”

“Did Logan tell you everything?” she asked with a small smile, trying not to look at his chest.

“Let’s just say that we have few secrets. Kinda comes with the territory.” Dimitri took the seat next to hers, laying his head back on the wooden surface. “We trust each other. He knows that no matter what, I have his back. And yours.”

“Like tonight?” Damn straight she was going to bring it up. Embarrassed or not, this was her life.

“Like tonight,” Dimitri concurred, trying to discuss the topic without making her uncomfortable. “But don’t worry. Logan will do whatever he has to do to make everything go smoothly.”

“And you?” She noticed Logan walking toward them. He, too, had taken off his shirt. Holy hell, the man was hot. She coughed, trying to focus on what she’d been saying.

“Yeah, me too.” Dimitri smiled at Logan, guessing he could hear at least part of their conversation. “Won’t lie, cher, I’m looking forward to watching you shift, to helping you.”

“I’m scared. But I guess this is going to happen whether I like it or not.” Wynter glanced over to the bayou and then bowed her head. “I want you to know that I really appreciate everything you’ve done for me…your talks, the encouragement the past couple of days. I know this hasn’t been easy on you either. Whatever happens tonight…I trust you both.”

“Logan and I won’t let anything happen to you. It’s going to be one of the greatest days of your life.” Dimitri smiled at Wynter, reached over and took her hand in his. He wanted so badly to be able to explain the rush she’d feel, but he reasoned it was of no use. Tonight, she’d run with them and learn the way of the wolves. He was confident she’d do well once she shifted.

Wynter squeezed his hand. She’d meant what she’d said. She trusted them, both Logan and Dimitri. Together they’d get through the night.

“Well hello, Logan, have I told you what a beautiful mate you have?” Dimitri said as Logan approached.

“Yes, you have.
My
mate is beautiful, isn’t she?” Logan gave him a sardonic smile. He’d told him to talk, not drool.

“Very.” Dimitri laughed, enjoying their easy banter.

Logan leaned down and gave Wynter a kiss.
His mate.
So perfect for him.

She reached up to him, pushing her hands into his sweaty hair. Her tongue swept into his mouth. A long drugging kiss ensued and before she knew it, she’d jumped into his arms, her legs wrapped around his waist.

Logan could tell she was starting to feel her increased arousal already. He shuddered to think what would happen later. Thank the Goddess he and his beta had a plan to get through the shift. But until then, he’d have to get her to rest. He smiled into her kiss, breaking away with a sigh. His forehead to hers, they both struggled to catch their breath.

“Hey Wyn, baby, you okay?” he asked gently.

“I…I’m sorry. I’m just so…so…” Oh God, what was happening? She’d woken feeling so happy, so refreshed. Now, she was hot and hungry, for both food and sex.

“I know. Come on, let’s get you inside. Your wolf, she’s rising. How about we go get something to eat? It’ll help.” Logan continued to hold Wynter and walked over to the back door.

“But I ate already,” she protested, but her stomach rumbled.

“Your wolf’s preparing. Eating’ll help take the edge off. Being around D probably isn’t helping either.”

“What?”

“She knows my beta’s scent. She’ll want to be around him, to touch him.”

“But Logan, this makes no sense. I only want you.” Humiliation doused her arousal. She buried her head in his shoulder.

“It’s okay, Wyn. This is just your body doing this,” he reassured her, hugging her to his chest.

Logan yearned to tell her that he loved her, but the timing was off. With her impending change, he only sought to soothe her symptoms. Soon, he’d tell her, but with Dimitri watching and her on the edge, now was not that time.

Wynter retreated into herself. Her emotions, lusting after Dimitri upset her sense of what she knew was right. The night before she’d confessed her love. Unexpectedly, but still, those words fell through her lips. And today? Today, she nearly creamed her shorts over a hot, shirtless beta. What kind of a horrible human being did that? She shook her head, realizing she was no longer human. Yet she wasn’t convinced she was one hundred percent wolf. She was made unnaturally, not born a shifter. Sanity would elude her until she ran her own blood tests; she needed to know who and what she really was
