He looked…well, like a million bucks. One would think he was some kind of celebrity the way people at the dinner came forward to shake his hand, or took pictures of them both. She remembered Abbey had called him a “catch”, and that he was well known in his field. She couldn’t help feeling impressed, and filled with admiration that he seemed so laid-back even with all the attention. He seemed quite comfortable in his obviously expensive clothes, his golden hair sleek and well cut. His tanned skin was the perfect palette for his dark suit which suited him just right.
Victoria had been so taken in by his impeccably fitted attire, that she’d been unable to hide her admiration when he’d shown up at the door to pick her up earlier. She could remember saying something about how good he looked, and the smile he’d given her had curled her painted-up toes encased in her heeled pumps.
The attraction between them was now impossible to deny. No matter what else about them was different, the dynamics were the same: he was man, she was woman. Soon, either one of them would have to take the plunge.
Chapter Eight
The dinner party was an exclusive event indeed; even Victoria could see that. Gordon was able to name for her many leading members of gentry, politics and even the aristocracy as they mingled cocktails in hand.
There was mellow music for a backdrop, which had a soothing effect on Victoria’s nerves. Camera lights flashed in her face once or twice, and she wondered why on earth anyone would want to photograph her. She was no celebrity. But then she figured she made a striking figure next to her dashing companion, who looked the perfect gentleman straight out of GQ magazine.
Diane Wakefield, in her case, looked every inch the perfect hostess. Her gown was beautiful, and a very elegant shade of blue. Her slender throat, wrist and ears were adorned with the finest of jewelry. She greeted Victoria with a warm smile and a kiss on each cheek, once more filling Victoria with surprise. Where was the icy-like aunt she’d first met all those weeks ago in New York? Here, in this room filled with superlative guests, she was at her best, sparkling and pleasant as can be.
The Brits were known to be a distinctly “dinner-giving society”, and that evening, Victoria had a good taste, so to speak, of that preeminence. The formal dinner and fund-raiser soon began, and she couldn’t help but feel struck by all the elegance and sense of culture.
Fresh flowers decorated the dinner tables in small vases. There was a servant to every two guests, so self-serving never became an issue. Gordon and Victoria were placed at a lovely table, and the dining room chandelier above them gave the surroundings a festive air.
Diane gave her speeches, the guests applauded, and then the celebrity-chef-prepared dinner could now be enjoyed.
The three courses were superb; game, savory puddings, pastry, creams and cheese and so on. There was champagne, of course, and an excellent collection of wine. It was all extravagant to say the least, and yet enjoyable in every way. Well, considering the sizeable amount of pounds each guest had doled out to attend, in respect of their hostess’s named charity, it seemed only right that the food and entertainment be top-class.
Gordon was the best companion, putting her at ease with his anecdotes and comments. But best of all, he seemed to have eyes only for her.
Many times, she could swear she caught him peeling off her clothes with his gaze. She had to take more than a few gulps of her wine to settle her stomach after catching his eye as they sat beside each other. More than once, she felt almost tempted to say, “Let’s get the hell out of here and go somewhere we can fuck each other’s brains out”.
It would be totally inappropriate and even crazy, but after some glasses of the delicious champagne, Victoria was beginning to lose certain inhibitions.
Suddenly, she asked herself, was that his trouser leg brushing against her calf? Of course it was. She quenched the need to press closer, eager for some contact with him. He seemed totally aware of how close their thighs were, as he turned to the guest on his other side who’d asked him a question.
Sitting so close to Gordon was having an untold effect on her. How could he not sense it? The parts of their bodies that touched felt like they virtually smoldered even through the fabric. He shifted slightly, wedging himself tighter, closer against her. Still his head was averted, but she was beginning to think he knew exactly what he was doing.
Her vaginal walls clinched at the thought that he was doing this deliberately.
Suddenly, it felt like the evening would go on forever. There was both a live and silent auction, and a professional band played entertaining music, from jazz tunes to the classical. But all Victoria could think of was the man sitting next to her, and the tempting bit of contact they shared. It soon became unbearable - so she had to give in, her heart pounding with feminine awareness and anticipation.
She carefully slipped out of her shoes, keeping her gaze composed and her upper body, which showed above the dining table, still. From the waist down, though, she began to move, crossing her legs and then sliding a raised foot beneath Gordon’s pant leg.
To his credit, he didn’t even start in surprise at her move. Although, there was a tell-tale movement in his throat, like a deep swallow. Victoria smiled, and inched her stockinged foot higher.
“What are you doing?” he asked mildly, finally turning to her, his voice barely above a whisper.
Victoria smiled demurely. “You’ve been talking to the guest on the other side of you for five minutes now. I was beginning to feel neglected.” Her toes slid intimately back down his calf, her eyes closing slightly at the impression of hairs on his skin. She drew in a ragged breath of desire.
“Pardon me,” he said wryly, and his eyes danced into hers for a moment. “That was just a self-preservation tactic. I had to find a way to distract myself from the delectable woman I’ve had right next to me all evening.”
A happy smile crossed her lips, to which she raised a glass of champagne. “At last, an insight to your thoughts.”
He cocked an eyebrow. “You honestly want to know what I’m thinking.” He chuckled almost warningly. “Trust me; my thoughts regarding you are not fit for public consumption. Even for you, honey.”
He only made her smile widen. “Now you’ve only managed to make me even more curious.”
Her toes got lost up his trouser leg again, and it felt so warm and cozy underneath there.
“Is it simply curiosity, or do you actually know what you’re doing?” he asked, his gaze locking with hers for a moment. “Games are great but they’re much too time-consuming when we could actually be doing something really fun. I want you, Victoria.”
Just like that, he’d said it. Like he was talking about something casual, such as the food. Victoria gulped, her footsie interrupted.
He continued in that soft, mesmerizing tone, “I want you so much, that just sitting this close to you, inhaling your essence in every breath I take, and feeling the warmth of your body just inches from mine…is causing a dangerous tightness in the crotch of my trousers. And now you want to add torture to the bargain. You don’t play fair, Victoria, that’s for sure. That soft foot running up and down my leg, is making me wish I could lay you flat on your back, grab that ankle…and then take your errant toes in my mouth, and tongue them, suck on them hard…”
“How soon can we leave?” she asked suddenly, almost business-like in her abruptness as she suddenly sat up as if electrified...

Surprised, he paused, and she added, “I mean, I don’t want to break any rules of etiquette if I sneak out of the party with my hunk of a companion in tow. How socially disastrous would it be if we dashed out of here right this minute?”
The slow, steady way the smile spread across his lips was lethal. “I think I like the way your mind is working, Victoria. Yes, we can leave straight away – and to hell with decorum. However, to be on the safe side, why don’t I get up and leave first, and you casually rise and follow after me?”
“I can do casual,” Victoria said, nodding her head enthusiastically. The gesture made her head swim slightly, and she blinked. How much champagne had she had anyway? It didn’t matter though; the certain parts of her body that needed to function would do so well enough without her being hundred per cent sober, she decided.
Gordon leaned forward to whisper in her ear, and his words got her panties even more drenched than his toe-sucking comment had done.
“I’m admitting this up front for full disclosure, Victoria: I’ve wanted you for weeks. I haven’t had a decent night’s sleep since I met you. Tonight will be a fantasy come true for me,” he told her softly, making the tiny hairs on her lobe tingle.
For me as well, she added with almost fevered longing as she watched him rise and stride calmly out of the lively gathering. In a minute or two, Victoria too, would excuse herself from their table, and go after him. Hopefully, no one would really notice.
She didn’t really care. Right then she was the definition of horny; a state she’d been in since she’d opened her front door hours ago and found Prince Charming appearing in the form of her workman hunk, Gordon Dorchester. Tonight, they were to progress to the stage of lovers – that was, if she had anything to do with it.
Marveling at her audacity and un-Victoria-like behavior, she snatched up her purse, schooled her face into its most innocent expression, and glanced around to find Diane chatting animatedly with an important-looking guest.
I wouldn’t be missed, Victoria thought decisively, and skittered from the room.

Considering the flames flickering between them, it was a wonder how they kept their hands off each other during the drive from Diane’s place. They’d made the silent, unanimous decision that they would return to Victoria’s house.
He certainly broke enough speed records to get there. Seated beside him was a hot-necked Victoria, her chest heaving with every breath while her lower body quivered, from her secret mound to her inner thighs to her knees, which had more than a slight wobble already. She stole glimpses at Gordon’s handsome, purposeful profile, and wondered vaguely what he was thinking at exactly that moment. Her eyes fell on his deliciously firm-looking mouth, and she vowed to kiss him for at least an hour, gnawing on that one juicy, lower lip. She trembled, and looked away, striving to take deeper breaths to slow down her heart’s acceleration.
She must have dozed off, because she was awoken by a soft kiss on the surface of her lips. She opened her eyes, and stared straight up into Gordon’s glittering blue-green gaze.
“You are so beautiful,” he breathed, eyes fastened on her face. “The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”
“Thank you,” she replied in a voice she didn’t recognize as hers, as her brain strove to register that the warmth of Gordon’s lips had briefly laid over hers just seconds ago. She would require a fuller, longer encounter as soon as possible.
“We’re home,” he told her, and she glanced around, straightening in her seat. Yes, they were home. She looked up at the beautiful house, and it had never looked as welcoming as it did tonight. She turned to Gordon with a slow, sexy smile which made his breath catch.
“Well, handsome, what are we waiting for?”
Chapter Nine
Her lips felt as soft as he’d dreamed a hundred times that they would – and they tasted just as sweet. They only just managed to get through the door and shut it behind them – before they fell into each other’s arms.
Gordon wrapped his arms tight around her tiny waist, almost lifting her feet off the floor as he ravaged into her mouth. Her hands were clasped at the back of his head, sinking into his hair and tugging hard on the roots. He groaned as she opened her mouth wider, pressed her body closer. He became aware of every pliable, generous curve, her womanly scent thrilling his nostrils. The rage in his loins pulsed and hardened against her belly, and he felt her shudder convulsively in his embrace.
He backed her into the nearby wall, with both of his hands propped on either side of her, imprisoning her. She had nowhere to run as he plundered the treasures in the depths of her mouth. He gave her his tongue, and she made him growl in delight when she immediately sucked it in, swapping saliva in what had to be the hottest, wickedest kiss he’d ever shared with a woman. It was a sexy-sloppy, wild and heedless tongue-fest.
They hadn’t even bothered to turn on the lights, the hallway barely lit by the lamps from outside on the walkway. The air was filled with the sounds of their harsh breathing, their clothes rustling as they crushed their bodies impossibly tighter, like they would weld themselves together.
Gordon took hold of her jaw, and plucked at her moist, tasty lips one more time, whispering against their softness, “There’s the guest room downstairs – or would you rather we went up to your bedroom? Because it doesn’t really matter which, honey. I’m quite able to take you right where we stand.” His voice rumbled with a deep, throaty laugh, which died away as he saw her brown eyes suddenly cloud up, before being shielded by her thick, long lashes.
Gordon could instantly sense her withdrawal, and his heart lurched with concern.
“Victoria, what’s wrong?”

The sensual high was slowly wearing off. Common sense was quickly returning. Victoria wasn’t sure now that she could go through with this.
