I see Jax looking over some papers before he finally answers. “Hell yes, I’m sure. I want my daughter to be buried in the same plot as the rest of her family. She deserves to be here with the people who love her most,” he says, looking over at me.

Smiling, he lifts his hand and motions for me to come over to where they are standing at the kitchen counter. “Mike, this is Lyndley. This was our daughter.”

“Hello, Lyndley. So nice to meet you. I’m sorry to hear about your loss.”

We shake hands, then I look over at Jax. “Mike is helping me get everything together so we can bring our little girl home.” I knew he was going to see if it could be done, but now that I know it’s going to actually happen, I feel the tears fall down my face. I’m going to have her close to me again. I never thought it would be possible. He wraps me in his arms and kisses my hair.

“Jax, I need to get ready for work,” I say, glancing at the clock.

He nods. “Go shower and I’ll make you some breakfast.” As I walk away, I can hear them start to discuss bringing Gracilyn to Texas.

Making my way into the shower, I strip the shirt and panties off, leaving them on the floor of his bedroom. Starting the water, I wait for it to warm up, answering Amie’s text.

Amie:
I better get to meet the man who is stealing you away from me.

Me:
You will. I promise. When do you get here?

Amie:
Next weekend. Does he have any hot, single friends?

I snicker at that question. I would never force her to hang out with Tate. If he was the same guy he was in high school, I would, but not the guy he’s turned into over the years.

Me:
Maybe I’ll ask him for you
;)
.

Amie:
This is why I love you! Can’t wait to see you, hun!

Me:
Me, either. I need to get ready for work. I’ll talk to you later.

Amie:
Bye, hun! See you soon. Send me a picture of you and the new beau.

Me:
I will
;)
.

Stepping into the shower, I let the water run over my body. My muscles are a little sore, so the warm water feels amazing. After soaping my body, I hear what sounds like the dog running around and barking.

The shower curtain pulls open and I see a very naked Jaxson standing there. Slowly looking over my body, I see the lust in his eyes. He steps into the shower with me and closes the curtain. Pulling me close to him, he kisses down my neck. “Jax, I don’t have time. I’m gonna be late,” I moan.

“I’ll be fast.” He slides a hand between my legs. “Mmm… You’re already wet for me.” Pushing me against the shower wall, he lifts me up and thrusts inside of me.

Our moans fill the space. He thrusts into me with a fervor that makes us both

so hot, we come at the same time. He rests his forehead on mine and stands there, holding me on his cock. The contracting of my pussy walls continues to milk him for a few more seconds.

“Damn, Lyndley. It gets better and better every time.”

“Mmm… I don’t want to work today. I want to keep doing that all day long.” He gives me a cocky smirk and I want to smack him, but I refrain.

He helps me out of the shower, but stays in to wash. Once I am done drying my hair, he steps out of the shower, the water dripping down his body, his skin glistening. Man, I want to do naughty things to him. Turning around, I finish getting my clothes on before I turn to face him.

“You’re gonna be late,” he mumbles, looking me up and down. I shake my head and he comes walking towards me, wrapping his arms around me. “I’ll drop you off.” He nuzzles his face into the crook of my neck.

“Okay,” I whisper.

He releases me and pulls on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, then his boots. Grabbing my hand, he leads me out to the truck, hollering for Max to come. Before he opens the door, he looks at me.

“You sure you’re okay with bringing our little girl here?”

“Yes. I want you to be able to meet her, even if this is the only way. You and our parents deserve this.”

He kisses me, then opens the door, Max jumping into the bed of the truck.

Once Jax drops me off at work, I can’t help but think about Gracilyn and everything happening to me right now. Life couldn’t be any better.

Chapter Fifteen

Over the next few months, I spend almost every free minute with Jax. It’s amazing to think that even though we are two completely different people than we were in high school, we still fit. Today is the day Amie comes down for a few days and I am so excited. She was supposed to come out here a few months ago, but things kept coming up and her trip kept getting pushed back.

After my morning shift at the diner, I head over to Jax’s to wait for him so he can take me to the airport. I spend my time out back, throwing the tennis ball for Max. We play fetch for a good twenty minutes before I see Jax walking towards us. As soon as Max sees him, he goes running over and drops the ball at his feet.

Jax throws the ball, then walks over to me and gives me a sweet kiss. “Mmm… Hey, baby.” I grin.

“Hi, darlin’. You ready to go pick up your friend?” he asks, wrapping me in his arms, walking me backwards towards the house.

“Yes.” I wrap my arms around his neck.

“Damn. How do I get you this happy to see me?”

Kissing his lips, I whisper, “I’m always happy to see you.”

“Will you show me how happy you are later?”

“Definitely.” I give him a shy smile.

Amie is going to be staying in one of the extra rooms at Jax’s instead of the one hotel that this small town has. I even took the next few days off so I can spend as much time with her as I possible.

“So how long have you and Amie been friends?” he asks as we drive to the airport.

“Three years. We worked together. She is probably the only person who knows the most about me, even if she doesn’t know a lot about my past.”

“So she doesn’t know we used to be high school sweethearts, or that you had a baby?” I can tell he’s starting to get a little upset, but I was planning on telling her while she was here.

I shake my head, but don’t say anything. I know that won’t make him happy, either. “Jax, I’m sorry. I just didn’t want anyone to judge me. I wanted to make a fresh start.” His grip on the steering wheel tightens, so I close my mouth.

We sit in silence the rest of the way, which gives me a lot of time to think about what to do next. Part of me isn’t sure that bringing it up right now is the right move, so I decide to tell her tomorrow. We can do a girls’ day at the beauty salon or something.

When we finally get to the airport, Jax puts the truck in park and turns to look at me. “I just hope the reason you never told anyone was because it hurt to talk about and not because you were embarrassed by me.”

How could he even think that? Doesn’t he know that he was my whole life? He meant the world to me and that won’t ever change.

“You can’t be serious! I’ve loved you forever. I would never be ashamed of you. You were the reason I didn’t give up when I lost everything. I knew that even if we weren’t together, you’d love Gracilyn as much as I did. I knew we would be able to work things out if we really wanted to. I love you more than anything and I would do anything for you. Please don’t make this about you. It was purely me,” I say, pleading.

The last thing I want to do is fight with him the day my best friend comes to visit.

He grabs the back of my neck and pulls me in for a kiss. “I’m sorry, babe. I just hate that I am part of your past most people don’t know about. I love you.”

“I love you, too. And you are the best part of my past…and present.” I kiss him gently on the cheek.

He gets out of the truck and comes around to open my door for me. Walking hand in hand, we make our way to the gate. We have to wait for about twenty minutes before I see the passengers start to file out of the plane. Finally, I see Amie’s bright blonde hair bouncing. When she spots me, she starts screaming and running.

Letting go of Jax’s hand, I run to her and we collide in a fit of giggles. I can’t believe how much I have missed this girl.

“Oh, my god, Lynds! You look fantastic! You look so freaking happy!” We hug once more before I hear Jax come closer to us.

She glances up and her mouth drops open. “Holy hot cowboy!” I can see the smile on his face while she checks him out.

Walking over to him, I smack him in the stomach. “Amie, this is Jaxson. Jaxson, this is Amie.”

“Damn, if this is what all the men look like, I’m going to move here.” She wraps her arm around his and checks him out once more. “Are you single, sweet thing?” Raising an eyebrow, he nods over to me. “Wait. This is the guy you’ve been seeing?” Smiling, I nod. “Hot damn, Lynds. He is so fucking hot! I can see why you never get out of bed unless you have to!”

Putting my face in my hands, I shake my head. Oh god.

“Oh, my gawd! You never said how damn hunky he is!”

She fawns all over him for a few minutes before making her way back to me. “Where can I meet one like him?” she whispers.

Giggling, I say, “You grow up in a small town. He’s my high school sweetheart.”

“No way! You guys dated in high school? How come I didn’t know about this?”

“I’ll tell you later,” I say with a slight grimace. She nods and grabs my arm, pulling me along to the baggage claim. Looking back at Jax, I see that he has his hands in his pockets, looking a little upset. I pull out her grasp and walk back to him.

“I love you, Jaxson,” I whisper against his cheek.

He wraps his arms around me and kisses me. “Love you, too, babe.”

“You two are so damn cute!” Amie squeals from behind me.

He just shakes his head as I grab his hand and pull him along with us.

By the time we make it to the baggage claim, we have talked about several different things. I kind of feel bad for Jaxson, who just laughs at how we jump from topic to topic.

Once we get Amie’s bags and make our way to the truck, she’s already asked him a million questions about what I was like in high school.

“Was Lynds popular with the boys?” she asks with a grin.

I just shake my head as he answers, “All the guys wished they were me. Unlike all the other girls, her body was curvy. She is the total package.” He winks at me and I blush.

I highly doubt the boys were jealous about us dating. There were far prettier girls at our high school.

Once we make it home, I can tell that Amie is tried and so am I. Pulling up to the house, I hear her intake of breath. This place is beautiful. I still can’t believe he kept my drawing for what my perfect house would look like, let alone build it.

“This place is fantastic! Who designed it?” Amie questions, looking around.

I hear the smile in his voice when he says, “Lyndley did.”

“What? Are you serious?” She looks at me.

“Yeah. I used to draw my dream house on napkins and scrap paper all the time, but I never knew he kept any of them. When I saw this place the first time, I was in awe of it. It is everything I ever wanted.”

Looking over at Jax, I see his grin widen. I never told him how I felt about his house because I didn’t know if he had built it in the hopes of us getting back together or not. He walks over to me and whispers, “I’m glad you love it. I was hoping you’d live here with me one day.”
