My Soul Keeper (36 page)

“Why can’t I pull his soul, and Simone just cleanse his soul?”

“We can’t risk him taking you over. I believe that’s what he planned, like what he did with your father, to take on your vessel. He would be able to get to Simone as you.”

I shake my head. “But what if he takes her over?”

Michael holds his hands up to calm me. I hadn’t realised I had taken a step toward him, fists clenched. “Her light is too powerful. He couldn’t. Trust me, Shamar.”

I laugh without humour. “That’s easy for you to say. Gabriel said the same thing but he wanted Simone for himself, and you both tried to keep us apart by telling me I was destined for Lana.” The more I think about Gabriel’s deceit, the angrier I become.

“She carries your child. I already knew that to be the case. I wanted to know why Gabriel lied about the book. He knew the book read that you are destined for the giver of light, yet he tried to convince me it was the giver of life. Unbeknownst to him, I already knew that you are soul mates with Simone. You’re entwined for eternity now, Shamar. No one will sway her. She’s proven that she is yours and now the prophecy has come to pass. She is with child.
Your child
.”

Simone steps toward me. “How? We were careful.”

“Some things are destined to happen, Simone, and not everything careful is one hundred percent.”

“I’ll do it, I’ll pull his soul. I just want this over a few months ago. I was just a normal girl, waiting to go off to college. So much has happened. I just want it to be over.”

I reach for her and wrap her in my arms. “I love you,” I whisper. I feel her love for me soaking into my skin.

“Let’s do this then.”

I’m standing looking into the mirror in my room, examining my flat stomach. I can’t believe I have a baby in there. We used protection.

“How can our child already have a soul?” I ask Shamar, who’s standing behind me with a look of adoration on his beautiful face.

“We are unique and powerful, Simone. My soul sparked as soon as I was conceived. My mom was an Angel and my father was Death. Together, they created my unique soul. The same for you, and the same for him… our son.”

He smiles as his hand strokes over the flesh on my stomach.

“I don’t want Liam or Leah here when we call for Lucas. I won’t risk losing them again.” I sigh and burrow my back into Shamar’s chest, loving the feel of his body against mine.

“I’ve already made Michael take them somewhere safe until this is all over. Leah’s mind was healed with her body, giving her back her memories that Gabriel took. She’s a little shaken up, but she’ll be fine. She has Liam.” He breathes in my scent. “You will be fine, too, because you have me and I’ll never let anyone stand between us again.”

“Why does bad stuff happen, Shamar?”

He reaches around to grasp my cheek, tilting my head to the side and capturing captures my lips with his.

“Without the bad, we wouldn’t know the good. Without sorrow and grief, how can we know happiness and love? Everything has a balance, Simone. Everything has a reason. We are created to feel, and to feel is to experience all emotions so when we do find love we know it and can embrace it and cherish it because we know what it would feel like to lose something so precious.”

The soft, gentle warmth of his lips cushions mine, his wet tongue asks for entry and we drown in each other. I turn my body so we’re chest to chest, deepening the kiss. My hands grasp his hair and pull him further into me, his arm snakes around my lower back. He lifts me to my tiptoes.

“I missed you,” he pants as his lips and tongue continue to dance with mine.

“I’ve been so confused and lonely, Shamar. I love you.”

He lifts me, my legs wrapping around his waist naturally. We fit together like we were created as one. I inhale his scent, embrace the soft touch of his lips as they worship mine and trail down my jaw to my neck leaving a hot trail of warmth. The gentle flick of his tongue against my heated skin ignites my deep need to make love to him. My head spins a little as he lowers me onto my bed. I’m heating up from the inside out, hungry with desire for my soul mate. He lowers himself to rest over me, careful not to put any of his weight on me.

“I need to love you now, Simone,” he groans.

I nod my head eagerly in agreement. It takes him mere seconds to strip me down to nothing but my heated flesh. He tears his shirt over his head in haste, leaving his sculpted bare torso available for my hands and lips to caress. His hands, tongue and lips explore my body. His lips trail down my body, covering every blissful inch until I’m coming apart in an explosion of ecstasy. Before I recover, I feel him enter me, taking me higher into the Heaven that is our love. His beautiful face comes into view, his tropical eyes boring into mine. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul and his soul is looking into mine as our bodies come together to bask in each other’s love.

“I love you beyond words, beyond touch, beyond this realm, and any other. I love you with my heart, my body, my soul, and with every fibre of my being. You’re mine and I’m yours forever, Simone,” he breathes and I fall, moaning his name.

I feel like I’m walking on water. Shamar's touch and love have erased all the dark that has happened. I feel alive again; I feel like I can breathe again.

“Are you ready Simone?”

I look to Michael and then to Shamar. He takes my hand and smiles with a reassuring nod.

“Yes,” I reply.

We called Lucas and told him we wanted to make a deal and to meet us here at four o’ clock. The clock ticks, I feel strong, powerful. I feel him as he appears in the room. He looks apprehensive, wary of me, which only make me feel more empowered.

“Why are you here, brother?” he asks darkly to Michael, then his eyes fall on his own vessel lying on the floor.

“I’m putting you back,” Shamar tells him and steps forward, pulling me gently with him. He lifts his hand toward Lucas then looks at me and blinks and tilts his head. That’s my cue.

I close my eyes and focus on drawing all my power to assist me. I reach my hand out toward Lucas. I feel his darkness like a plague polluting the air. I draw him out. My body vibrate and heats, tears fall freely as the darkness from his soul bleeds away, my light cleansing the dark. I don’t know how long it takes, I’m consumed with the power of mine and my son’s light. When I open my eyes, Shamar is looking me over from head to toe, looking for injury.

“Simone,” he whispers.

“I’m okay. It’s done.”

Shamar takes the soul from me and places it back in Lucas’s vessel. Michael collects the box, thanks me, and leaves. I hear a cough coming from Shamar’s father; his soul is back, running his vessel.

“That son of a bitch,” he barks.

Shamar pats him on the back. “Welcome back.”

Simone glows with beauty as our child grows inside her. We were blessed with a place in Eden while we await the arrival of our son. Simone belongs here. She’s everything good and pure and I live to breathe her air. She owns me.

Michael agreed to give my father back his power. I hated being away from Simone and being Death was never something I wanted. Simone requested that her mother and father be allowed to be together, if that’s what they choose, and her request was granted although they were made human to live a human life together. I have been spending more time getting to know Charmeine, hoping to build a relationship with her.

I don’t know what the future holds, all I know is we’re together and our love is strong. Liam and Leah are happy and keep us informed of how peaceful things have been since Simone cleansed Lucas’ soul. Michael hasn’t shared any information on Lucas, only that Simone’s light worked. He no longer holds darkness in his soul. My father is unconvinced and said something so evil will always find a way to survive.

“Shamar, come eat with me.”

Simone smiles at me, offering her hand out to me. I go over to the love of my life and take her offering of an…. apple.

The end… for now
