His eyes traveled up and down her back, her curves, but always returned to that one spot on the back of her left shoulder. The delicateness of her slender neck screamed to him until he could hold back no longer.

He fell on her, biting hard, letting her blood flow down his chin. She screamed when he did and her inner muscles clamped down on him, hard, forcing a monumental release from him, their orgasms merging as they both cried out.

Trevor pulled his teeth from his mate’s skin and rode out his own pleasure as he saw something unbelievable. Wings of silver and gold light erupted from her back, no more substantial than spider webs, but still strong enough to envelop them both in a kind of cocoon, lifting them off the bed.

Trevor closed his eyes, his body still pumping into her, the hard release incapacitating him. They rose in the air, then quietly returned to the bed, just as her moans settled and his body relaxed.

He opened his eyes, almost scared of what he would see.

No wings. No break in the sweet, pale skin of her back. Even his bite had healed over already, leaving only a darkened scab there, in the shape of his teeth.

He hoped it would stay forever.

It seemed only fitting that his mate’s
renqua
match a part of him.

Epilogue

Wade walked through the crowd, shaking hands, thanking people for coming, answering questions as best he could.

He nodded his head at a young
wolfen
from St. Louis who had just asked him something, repeating what he’d already said a dozen times. “We don’t know, Phillip. The One True Mates could be anywhere. We will be sending out a memo soon with what to look for, but my guess is looking won’t help. There are forces at work here greater than any of us, and we believe couples will be brought together when the time is right.”

Kalista ran up to him, resplendent in her body-hugging purple dress and the highest heels he had ever seen. “Wade, we’ve got a disturbance outside of town. I need a crew.”

Wade nodded. “Tell Mac. Take them all except Trevor.”

“What about the
dragen
?”

“He’s still recovering. I don’t know when he’ll be back.”

“Too bad.”

“Yes.”

A blinding light flashed out of every window in the small cabin that Trevor and Ella had retired to, making Wade and Kalista both throw their hands up over their eyes. The crowd gasped and looked away as one.

Wade blinked hard, still seeing the imprint of the wall of light as it covered them all. He hesitantly lowered his hand, and saw the light had curved, headed up into the sky. As he watched, another light gathered in the heavens, then reached down to meet the oncoming light. They met in the middle, somewhere around the place of the clouds, and both evaporated into a blazing, soundless fireworks show.

Wade smiled. “It’s done. Our future looks bright.”

Kalista snorted a throaty laugh that was somehow sexy as hell. Wade looked away from her, trying to meet the eyes of his Lorna if he could find her in the crowd.

Kalista elbowed him and nodded towards the cabin. “What about them. What happens now?”

Wade shook his head. “I have no idea. But the fates are finally on our side. We just need to keep our ears and tails up and our faces towards the wind.”

Kalista nodded, looked at him for a long moment, like she wanted to say something else, then she shook her head and ran off to find Mac, not even wobbling in those heels.

Wade did not watch her go.

Notes from Lisa xx

I have never had as much fun writing a book as I did this one! I am in love with everyone, especially Trent and Troy. I don’t even know how I fell in love with two non-shifting
wolven
, but I did. They were meant not to be major characters but, boy, did they bite me on the neck and say, “Sorry! We’re here and we’re staying and we are going to do some interesting shit!”

I’m sure you noticed there were several threads left open. There is so much story left! The one true mates could be anywhere, and the
shiften
are more determined than ever to find them.

The rut scene is by far my favorite scene in the book, and I’m just wondering how far my readers want me to go with that? Anyone want to email me with their opinions?
[email protected]
… or send me a message on facebook.

Next book will be Graeme’s book. Dragon’s Heat. I will shoot for getting it out by the end of September.

If you have a favorite character or want to share or ask anything else, email me or join my
facebook spoiler group
. I can’t promise anything but I read all requests.
