Queens' Warriors (17 page)

Shan Lin agreed with his brother, the woman should be delved into further, and in more ways than with just their cocks. He too, was impressed with the way the woman had handled the situation she had found herself in.

Shari was a perfect choice for the Warriors. Both brothers agreed.

Chapter Ten

The summons came when dinner was barely finished. Winters watched a maid walk through the dining room doors, salver in her hands, a note laid folded on the tray. The maid strolled over to Winters who took the tray, dismissing the maid with a murmured thanks.

Winters walked up to Vincent, tray held out before him.

Vincent took the note, nodded his thanks, opened the missive, and began to read it.

“Who in their right mind has dared to interrupt The Queen’s Most Vicious Warrior and The Death Bringer at dinner?” Theresa joked as she forked the last of the Tine Chocolate Tort into her mouth.

Her unit members smiled uneasily as they watched for some reaction out of the Warriors. “Why, it’s your father,
Bricka
. He’s sent a note around to tell you it’s past your bedtime and time you toddled on home to bed. Now scat.” Shan Lin replied easily and the table at large laughed at the casual teasing between the family members.

“I’m sorry to cut your first dinner in Aranak short,
Kasha
, but Shan Lin and I must attend some business.” Vincent spoke casually to Shari.

Shari, who had been having palpitations at the taste of the dessert, turned to her husband with a look of gluttony in her eyes. The tort was as close to orgasm from chocolate Shari had ever gotten, and if she wasn’t careful, she was going to embarrass herself in front of the entire table.

Her voice came out husky when she spoke.

“Will you be long?”

The words barely left her mouth before Shan Lin and Vincent stood up from the table suddenly, their movements bringing those assembled to their feet. Without explanation to anyone, Shan Lin bodily lifted Shari from her chair, swung her into his arms, and raced from the room, followed closely by Vincent.

Theresa, the only one who had stayed seated, smiled. Paying little attention to what had just happened, she spoke to Winters.

“The meal was wonderful, Winters. Any chance there’s more of this aphrodisiac in the kitchen?”

“Of course, My Lady…Captain Lawsai.”

Theresa glanced lazily around the table, finding looks of astonishment on the faces of her crew. She laughed huskily before she explained her cousins’ behavior.

“They’re newly married. What did you expect?”

Smiles erupted all around as the anxiety drained the room.

“Oh my,” Lt. Roberts, Theresa’s medic said as she fanned herself. “Where do I find myself a couple of those?”

Corp. Dyden elbowed her gently in the ribs. “Whenever you want me, I’m right here.”

Lt. Char made a rude sound.

“You wish! But to be fair, come see me in a few years when you’ve gotten some experience, and I’ll show you what a woman really wants.”

Theresa listened as her crew joked and teased each other, just like the family they had become. Advice of a raunchy nature flew back and forth between the tired crew and Theresa ignored it. They were all blowing off steam, relaxing in a way most military troops in combat mode needed after long days, even weeks, spent together in danger.

She would give them their time to unwind, giving Shan Lin and Vincent time to finish jumping their wife, and then she would have to have a quick chat with her cousins. Theresa was nearly positive the missive had been a command from Queen Sara and she needed to tell the twins what had gone on at her last assignment. She had to tell someone, and she knew the twins would keep her counsel.

She had to warn them. Queen Sara, who had never been the best ruler when it came to military strategy, had finally lost it. It might even be up to the brothers to fix it.

Riad
, my cock is at attention. What in the Seven Hells did she do to have you shooting out of your chair as if the
averon’s
of Horrd were on your ass?
Shan Lin asked as he walked rapidly toward their apartments.

I wasn’t paying attention to what Winters served Shari and Theresa for dessert. He gave them Tine Chocolate Tort. All Shari did was look at me
, Vincent snarled.

What about the summons from Queen Sara? Are we going to… Stupid question. Of course we are. Forgive me, brother mine. My dick is throbbing in time to the beating of Shari’s heart. I can feel it against my chest. She’s going to explode all by herself if we don’t…

Shari stirred in Shan Lin’s arms, emitting a small cry of sexual hunger.

“Too late. It’s started.” Shan Lin said unnecessarily as the men watched Shari squirm in his arms.

A sigh escaped Vincent.

“To be fair to Winters, he had no idea Queen Sara would summon us. I could only wish he’d said something to us before he gave Shari the Tine Tort.”

Vincent reached for the apartment door they had arrived at and pushed it open to allow Shan Lin to carry Shari through, he spoke as he followed them through the door.

“Don’t worry about it. She’ll be fine once we get her into bed. Besides, Tine Chocolate Tort
is
the customary dessert served to the bride and her female guest on the first night of marriage. He was only following tradition.”

Shan Lin walked through the spacious rooms until he came to the large bed that he hoped the three would share for many nights to come and gently laid Shari down. He was just beginning to divest her of her clothing when an inhuman sound came from behind.

Spinning, reaching for the
pryt
lance strapped to his side, he whirled to face whatever danger had suddenly come into the room where their wife lay.

“Mine. She’s mine. Get away, now.”

The hoarse words grated over Shan Lin’s skin as he watched Vincent crouch into a killing stance. Not relaxing his body by an inch, Shan Lin watched Vincent begin his advance, a killing rage in his eyes.

“Vincent,” Shan Lin began, gentleness devoid in his voice. “You know she is ours. You must control the
Try Nas Ayn
or you will kill us all. It was you who have been accepting Shari as the one. Regardless of the fact we claimed her as our bride as a ruse. Shari is our bride. We both agreed when we asked for entrance. You must give her time to accept us. It is the only way we three will survive.”

The reminder, given in a monotone voice, did little to calm Vincent. It did however get him to stop advancing.

“Warrior Rayan. Use those legendary skills to get control of yourself. That is an order!”

A movement from the bed turned Shan Lin’s attention for a split second. It was all Vincent had been waiting for.

Shari sat up suddenly unsure how she had come to be in bed when only seconds before she had been sitting at a table staring into Vincent’s eyes. No sooner had the thought flashed in her mind then she watched as Vincent attacked Shan Lin.

The brothers grappled, each trying to find the best possible hold on the other to bring him down. It was to no avail. The brothers grunted, cursed, and went around in circles, but neither went down.

“Stop it.” The husky voice came out softly.

Both men ignored it.

“I said, stop it.” Shari tried to put more strength in her voice, still to no benefit.

Taking a deep breath, Shari screamed.

Stop it!

Both men, who had been communicating in grunts, snarls and grappling, suddenly fell to the floor letting go of each other and rolling apart. Panting from exertion, both men turned to stare at Shari.

“What’s going on? Last thing I remember, I was sitting at a dinner table, horny as hell. Now, I’m here. You two are fighting, and I’m a bowl of Jell-O. Somebody care to explain?”

Vincent got to his feet and walking around Shan Lin came to stand beside the bed. He opened his mouth to speak and Shari watched as his face suddenly turned red and he quickly closed his mouth.

Shan Lin stayed where he was, but explained.

“It was the dessert. Are you feeling…” He paused as if searching for a word, but Vincent beat him to it by asking bluntly.

“Are you feeling as if you’ve had a pleasant orgasm?”

Shari blinked up at him.

“Are you serious?”

“Yes. The dessert, Tine Chocolate Tort, is what is traditionally served at the dinner the night of the wedding. It is served to the females only. As we were married recently and Winters hadn’t a chance to serve it earlier, you received it tonight.”

Shari thought for a moment then remembered the feeling she’d had when she looked at Vincent. She blushed saying in a small voice.

“I guess I did.”

Shan Lin got up from the floor and came to stand next to Vincent.

“It is an aphrodisiac. It is used as an enticement for the wedding night. I’m sorry to say I had forgotten about it until after Vincent said something.”

Shari nodded not really understanding. She wanted to complain, but at the moment was feeling too relaxed. Maybe when she had some sleep…

A jaw-popping yawn stole over her and she slid down in bed, a feeling of sleepiness descending.

“Okay. But why were you fighting?” Even as she snuggled into the bed, her mind becoming fuddled, she knew the answer was important.

Try Nas Ayn
.” The brothers said the words together.

“Umm. All right.” Shari agreed around another yawn. Shari should probably ask for an explanation, she knew she should, but sleep claimed her too quickly.

Shan Lin and Vincent made their way to the front door wanting only to get the meeting with Queen Sara over and done. It was not to be. Theresa waylaid them before they could leave.

“I told you. We have to talk.”

Vincent made as if to object but Theresa overrode him.

“It’s Aranak business and you won’t be leaving until you hear me out.”

Sighing, both brothers’ emotions still highly volatile, they nodded briefly and listened.

“…overheard it at the Vid/Sync depot. Mercs making their way toward a town east of Naralin, but I couldn’t hear the rest of the conversation. Something’s going down and you two need to be on the look out for it. I can’t be everywhere you know.”

Theresa tried to make a joke to lessen the tension emanating from the two men and failed miserably. Shrugging, she finished her report.

“It wouldn’t look strange for the Queen’s favorites to ask around, and I wanted you two to get a heads up about the prisoners I had to release.”

The two Warriors waited before speaking.

“It’s started, hasn’t it?” Shan Lin asked softly.

“Yes, brother mine, it has.”

Theresa looked from one to the other perplexed.

“It’s been going on for a while. What do you mean it’s started?”

Shan Lin shook his head sighing.

“Never mind. We’ll keep our ears open. Now, enjoy the hospitality of our home and leave our bride to sleep. Love you,
Bricka
.” Shan Lin hugged her and walked away.

“Be careful, cousin and keep your ears open. Love you too.” Vincent hugged her to him then set her away and followed his brother.

“Back at you two!” Theresa yelled, walking after the two men who strode out the front door.

“Even if you are secretive
frechies
,” she mumbled, veering off to rejoin her crew, back at the table.

“Well, that went…” Vincent trailed off as the brothers left their home.

“There are the horses. Let’s just go and see what she wants. The sooner we get this over with, the sooner we can come back to Shari.”

There was no anger in Shan Lin’s voice, but Vincent knew he would have to apologize. As they gained their saddles, Vincent made up his mind he would do so now.

“Brother mine…” he began only to have Shan Lin stop him.

“No. It is the
Try Nas Ayn
. I know it. I felt it. The only thing you have to do is control it. What we both have to do now is convince Shari she is the only one who can stop it. This might have started out as a ploy, but it has become more important than that. Don’t apologize for who we are.”

Vincent nodded as the brothers kicked their horses into a trot.

“You’re right. I know now she is the one. She is our chosen, our soul-mate. But it’s been what? Two days? And for those two days, she slept for part of them recovering from the accident. Her feelings may not have been…”

Vincent emitted a sound of harsh frustration.

“You’re thinking of Syne and Asnan, the two twins whose mate never accepted them, thus sending them spiraling out of control, killing their intended, and eventually each other.”

The legendary tale of Syne and Asnan was told to every set of twins as a warning the moment they were old enough to understand.

Two mighty Warriors believing they had found the woman who would allow them to achieve
juniane
, went into
Try Nas Ayn
. The cycle to claim their mate began quickly and accelerated at a rapid pace. Unfortunately for the brothers, the woman they believed to be their mate, when confronted with effects of
Try Nas Ayn
, rejected the brothers in disgust.
