There was a round of applause and cheering then reality set in after a few seconds.

Ann asked, “If we can bomb them at will, why can’t they bomb us in the same fashion?”

“They have the equipment, pilots and missiles, but they don’t have the satellite or long range radar that we have. Yes, they can launch a small attack that has a chance of getting to its target, but we will detect anything significant. Since the attacks on Port Arthur and the Bunker, we have gained control of all spy satellites and installed over a hundred early warning radar stations. They can’t fart without us knowing when where and how big it was

That brought a round of laughter and snickering. What he didn’t tell them was that the Admiral and he had been sending spies into the border states and USA for months and had doubled the efforts after the attacks.

George added, “Remember the USA only kept about ten percent of the military and very little of the Navy and Air Force. If they didn’t have 25 nukes, we would have rolled over them a year ago.”

John looked at everyone and added, “Many of the USA’s military do not like the direction the president has taken the country, but feel trapped due to family concerns and not knowing much about the state of the rest of the old USA. All they hear is that we are murderers and will kill them and their families on site. We are gaining support from hundreds of active duty soldiers in the USA. As you know there are deserters pouring into the ISA every day. Most of the soldiers are bringing their families with them. Our biggest issue is vetting them to make sure that no spies infiltrate our ranks. All receive lie detector tests and are placed in low risk positions until we can be sure they really are a fit for the ISA.”

Steve suddenly had a thought and smiled, “If what I just heard is true about these Army units defecting, I might just have a readymade Army for my Territory.”

“Steve, not to bust your bubble, but we will probably send them down to Texas to fight the Chupacabras. I don’t want to take them in the fold and then have them shooting their fellow soldiers and neighbors. Don’t worry, you will have more help than you could ever ask for.”

Chapter 6

Bo, his wife and daughter were in the stands watching their son play baseball along with a large part of the town’s people. The mayor, police chief and members of the Cupperton City council sat all around him with their families. Since the lights went out there was no TV, internet or movies to entertain the remaining townsfolk.

Bo was a business man who traveled the country and owned several sporting goods and survival supply stores in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. He had a warehouse on the outskirts of town that shipped to other stores like his. The warehouse was the largest employer in the city employing over 450 workers. His company also had a large manufacturing facility that made many of the items sold in his and the other stores he serviced. His company had its own fleet of trucks and delivered to every state in the mainland USA. Guns, ammunition and survival supplies were the largest selling items. His entire business employed well over a thousand people in five states. He paid his employees very well and had excellent benefits. His company was the best place to work and had been profiled in several national publications.

What the town’s people didn’t know was that Bo was the second in command of the Chosen People. If they had known what the Chosen People stood for and practiced, they would have run them out of town many years ago.

The Chosen People had infiltrated the area around the town over forty years ago. The town was just a few miles north of the Florida line on Highway 316. Cupperton was one of over 50 communities that the Chosen People had selected to be bases for their eventual takeover of the USA. Many of them had been in the KKK and other racist groups until the government and lawyers cracked down on them. They adapted and no longer flaunted their intolerance; instead, they taught that the Chosen People were God’s people and were chosen to slowly reshape the USA back into a God-fearing, Bible- toting people. They never mentioned race or distain for nonwhites. They learned to give to the community and make themselves good community members while promoting secret practices that made it tough for the Other People to live around them.

The Chosen People believed that every family must have enough food for their family to survive for one year without needing supplies. They were all trained in self-defense and numerous types of weapons. Every family had a shotgun, AK47 and 9mm pistol for every family member over the age of 12. They stockpiled ammunition and other survival gear. All of them were trained from birth to keep all of this preparation to themselves. Leaks to the public were dealt with quickly; usually someone disappeared.

Not as widely known in the Chosen People community was that they also had heavy weapons and massive stockpiles of explosives spread all over the country. There were two major training facilities for in-house training; one on each side of the country. They also took advantage of local gun clubs and FEMA training. Their major compounds were self-supporting with sewage treatment, water purification and massive generators.

They had their own chemists and explosive experts and were able to destroy enemy locations and make sure that the authorities only were left with natural gas explosions and accidental fires. The Other people were targeted frequently, but not in the same area. They were careful to spread out their attacks enough that there was no suspicion. Their goal was to continue to infiltrate the government at the national, state and local levels with a peaceful takeover of the country. The weapons would be needed to rid the country of the remaining undesirables when they were strong enough.

They never counted on the president of the USA to hand them the country on a silver platter. The nuclear attack had devastated the country, but had little effect on the Chosen People because they were prepared for all types of disasters. Many people were joining their ranks for the security it gave and most didn’t care about the safety of their fellow men as long as their butts were covered. The Chosen People had moles in the US and PSA governments in high places, but only a few low ranking operatives in the ISA. They were certain their candidate would win the last presidential election, but she lost the nomination to one of the others due to his promising more welfare and a federal minimum wage of $20/hour.

Before TSHTF, Cupperton had a little fewer than 10,000 people in the town and another 2,000 in the suburbs. The town was much more modern than any of the surrounding towns. This was mainly thanks to Bo and the ones of the Chosen People before him who had first settled there in the 70’s. The Chosen People had started several small manufacturing operations, stores and farms. After the turn of the century, they expanded into internet and identity theft praying on minorities. They ran their operation through proxy servers in several African countries with all funds going to offshore accounts not traceable by the authorities. They were honest God fearing people who would never steal a dime from God’s people, but the non-people were fair game. Over the years, Blacks slowly moved away from the area and Hispanics never settled there as they did in the rest of Georgia. The Chosen People’s coffers were over flowing from their legitimate and not so legitimate endeavors. All 50 of their bases spent a great deal of money building goodwill in their cities and communities. They spent on everything from fire departments to baseball fields. Each expense helped one of their people move up in stature in politics or  society in general. Every one of the communities had a top notch police force and almost zero crime.

The local people were making deals with the devil every day and had no idea that the payback would be so horrible. While the rest of the USA was in chaos, the communities with the Chosen People had order, were well fed and had no crime. The police force asked for and got hundreds of well armed volunteers to man the roadblocks that cut the city off from the rest of the world. Most of the thugs, biker gangs and starving hoards from the larger cities were quietly executed and buried in mass graves before they got close to the communities. Most of the local citizens didn’t ask and didn’t care how or why they were safe. The few that questioned the tactics were encouraged to shut up and many disappeared.

There were some attacks on the communities and a close examination of the events would show that only minorities were killed or had their homes burned down. In just a few weeks after TSHTF, the minority population around these safe havens dropped to zero. In Cupperton, Bo held meetings to rail against the thugs and criminals who were committing these atrocities against these unfortunate people. Of course numerous white families who were not thought to be worthy of the Chosen People were sacrificed to make the story look plausible.

Joshua was not happy with the news from Mobile and knew that he had to develop a plan to stay out of  sight of the ISA until he could take over the USA. He would keep pitting the Drug Cartels and the UN against the ISA and the USA. After they destroy that damned Navy, he would be strong enough to throw them into the Gulf of Mexico. Until then he had to keep to the long term plan.

“Bo, how is my daughter and grandkids doing these days?”

“We are all doing very well. We just got back from Zeke’s baseball game and stopped for some ice cream on the way home. Cupperton is better now than before the lights went out. I have the factories at 50% capacity and we are shipping to all of our locations in Georgia, Tennessee, South and North Carolina. We've had several attacks on our trucks, but none has been taken so far. We have heavily armed escorts traveling with each truck. We can’t ship into the USA and I haven’t shipped into the ISA so far.”

“Bo, I have some bad news. The ISA is planning on major expansion into your area. They will be sending in their regular Army to wipe out the riffraff and then hold the land with their new National Guard troops. You will have to scale back your operation and try to blend in with them. Perhaps you can infiltrate them just as we have done with our base communities.”

“Damn Joshua, this will set us back years. Are you sure that we can’t take them head on and beat them back to Mobile?”

“They have the Navy, and Air Force and Special Operations groups. They would grind you down to bits in a few days. Infiltration and guerilla tactics will work much better. Slow them down, sabotage their equipment and have snipers pick them off in the night; that will wear them down while we get stronger. You probably should attack them from Florida to direct them away from the Carolinas. That’s an order. I want you to have the same plans for the Texas to Arkansas area. Let’s keep them busy while we infiltrate them and eventually take them over from the inside, just as we were doing with the USA. ”

“I wasn’t trying to disobey you. It’s just so frustrating to get so close to our goal and have this rogue nation delay our plans. Of course, you are right and I will immediately begin the counter insurgency operations per your orders. I will also open up factories and stores in their towns and operate right under their noses.”

“Great idea! This war is over a hundred years old and won’t be won anytime soon. Our ancestors hated the others just as we do and saw that head to head fights with the government would always be a losing proposition. That’s why they slowly started The Chosen People cause and selected leaders with brains who could slowly build the group from the inside and eventually be stronger than the federal government. We had 25 senators, 134 in the House, 9 governors and two presidential candidates in each of the last elections. Imagine what a Chosen People president could accomplish.”

“Thanks for the pep talk and I will make you proud of me and my area.”

“I am promoting you to Chief of Operations for all of our Chosen People. We have grown so much that I can’t manage it all by myself. All area commanders will report to you along with our security team. I will retain long range planning and have the final say on expansion and locations. You will run the day-to-day operations. Let’s meet tomorrow and establish boundaries of your authorization and communication metrics. I don’t want you hamstrung, but neither do I like big surprises.”

“Thanks, I won’t let you down.”

“I know you won’t. You have done more to our success than anyone has in the past 50 years and you have the ability to think outside of the box. The team that you put together to strip the manufacturing machinery out of the bombed and deserted cities has greatly speeded up our progress. Your idea to send headhunters out to those communities and find the experts and workers who ran the machinery was pivotal in getting the machinery in operation so quickly. That’s the kind of leadership that we need to reach our goals.”

Joshua was counting on Hellen Wilton to become president of the USA. This president has screwed up the plan with the attack on his own country and remaining in office through force and intimidation. Joshua was helping Wilton to build alliances inside of the president's team. They were also spreading lies and the truth about how the president was responsible for this disaster and had to go. Joshua didn’t want to be president; he just wanted the president to work for him and do his bidding.
