Runway Romance (Love in the Air Trilogy) (25 page)

“Just like that?”

“Well, the paperwork will be simple. Becka and Maya will always be in my life, they’ll always be my family. It’ll just be a bit larger when you’re added into the family, too.”

“You’re being awfully nice to me. I’m not sure I can take it.”

“Get used to it. I’m a nice guy.”

“You really are, aren’t you? I’m so sorry I assumed the worst about you.”

“When you get to know me better, I think that’ll stop happening.”

“What if it doesn’t?”

“Then I’ll have to find some way to get you to stop arguing with me and listen.”

“I liked the kissing plan. Kissing is good.”

“Kissing is very good.”

They pressed their lips together, sealing the beginning of their new life together, filled with promise for the future.

Later that evening, Jenny saw Rich to the door, where they exchanged more kisses. Neither wanted to say goodbye.

“Lunch at noon tomorrow?” Rich asked.

“Yes. The Bistro on Main Street.”

“I’ll see you then.”

“I can’t wait.”

One last kiss, then Jenny closed the door. Content, that was the word that best described how she was feeling at that exact moment. “He loves me.” She began twirling around in the living room, shouting, “He loves me! He loves me! He loves me!”

Patricia ran down the stairs when she heard the loud noise. “Are you okay?”

“I’m more than okay. He loves me.”

“Do it again?”

“What?”

“The spinny thing you were doing when I came down the hall.”

“I can’t just do it again, it was spontaneous.”

“I want to record it and send it to Kate. Do it again.”

“Are you serious?”

“Totally. Spin you crazy, neurotic, multiple personality woman in love!”

Jenny laughed, then began to twirl ‘round and ‘round, shouting, “He loves me! He loves me! Richard Novatney loves me!”

Patricia joined in the laughter. “Got it!” Two seconds later, she added. “Now Kate has it.”

“I can’t believe I got my happy ending.”

“See, it’s good to live in hope.” Patricia hugged her, then her phone alerted her that Kate sent a text.

“What’d she say?”

“We need to Skype now!”

“I’ll get my iPad.” Patricia ran back up the stairs and they smooshed themselves together into the recliner and contacted Kate to fill her in on the reconciliation.

“I want the record to show that I knew all along that you were in love,” Kate said.

“Why didn’t anyone tell me?” Jenny asked.

“Like you’d have listened to us.”

“True.”

“So what was this mysterious FedEx you sent Rich?” Kate asked.

“A roll of duct tape and a note.”

“What’d it say?”

“I don’t always say what I mean and I open my mouth without thinking far too much. I trust you to use the enclosed gift whenever you believe it is appropriate. I’m hoping it will help me listen more and talk less.

And, if you have any other ideas on how we might use it, I’m open for discussion and exploration on that, too.”

“You dirty minx!” Kate said.

“Brilliant!” Patricia said. “The perfect amount of apology and invitation to discuss sexual fantasies.”

“I thought it was clever at four a.m. The idea sort of fell flat when three o’clock rolled around and he didn’t call. Then, when it was five o’clock, Patricia had to practically scoop me up off the floor.”

“I felt so bad. I didn’t know what she sent him, but I couldn’t believe he didn’t respond. Then we learned he never got the package.”

“You need to write a letter to FedEx. There must be some kind of compensation for almost ruining someone’s love life for not delivering on time,” Kate said.

“Hey, we’ve been talking all about me. How’s Madagascar?”

“You have to come here. Have to! I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing it is. I’d tell you more but I have to get some sleep. Jet lag is kicking my ass.”

“Oh, yes, get some rest. We’ll talk tomorrow. Text me and we’ll set a time,” Patricia said.

“Will do. And, Jenny, I’m thrilled for you.”

“Thank you.”

“You should also know, that video of you, it’s going viral on YouTube. Love you. Bye!”

“She didn’t.” Jenny looked at Patricia.

“She wouldn’t.”

“It’s Kate. She did and she would. But you know what, I don’t even care. Know why?”

“Because he loves you! Because he loves you! Because he loves you!”

“Because he loves me.”
