Epilogue

One Year Later…

O
ver time
, my parents grew to love Adam. They knew he had been through some tough shit and they knew he and I bonded over it. They understood that by him saving me, I had a companion I could trust in this life. They didn’t know all of the gory in-between insanity we had been thrust into, but they didn’t need to. All they cared about now was my happiness.

J
orge’s money
went a long way. We got married in front of our family and a few new friends, on the beach of Southern California. We thought it would be a nice change of scenery compared to the sweltering heat of the desert. The ceremony was beautiful and lasted all night as we drank and told stories by the fire. We left on a horse that took us to our beach front vacation home, as we stayed for our incredible honeymoon. We may be two tough cookies, but boy do we like some luxury now and then!

up buying me that villa and some of that money went to me going to college. I never thought I’d do it, but I already love my classes. As for Adam, he has some projects of his own as well. He recently opened his own motorcycle repair shop, as well as giving riding lessons. We still have a lot of money left, but as long as we’re living, we might as well work to have more.

I mention I’m pregnant? I have a feeling it’s a girl, but Adam assures me everyday that it’s a boy. As soon as we heard the news, we made an oath to give every cent to that child, to secure its future, so it may never have to go through what we went through.

T
he authorities
never did find Jax. I suppose he died along with Brianna, Bruce, and Jorge. My parents stopped asking questions long ago. It was a sensitive subject around the house. Nevertheless, the legend lives on about how I escaped a madman, hell bent on exchanging me for my parent’s money.

W
e’ve decided
to bury a lot of what we saw. Some things don’t need to be uttered again. Jorge didn’t repent the life he led until it was too late. Brianna died by betrayal – something she knew a hell of a lot about. Adam’s father, Bruce, was a horrible man, but he got what was coming to him. Those things were in the past. Now we’re trying to focus on the good things in life. Because if you don’t, well… It’s like the saying goes, ‘if you play with fire, you’re bound to get burned.’
