Authors: Rita Sawyer
Amy lifted her hips as he lowered himself onto her. Going slow would have been damn near impossible, even if they had all night. Slade eased into her, not stopping until his cock was as deep as he could get it. After that, it was a frenzy of hands and mouths trying to touch and taste as much as possible. His hips jerked as he plunged into her, then withdrew, not all the way, but just enough so he could do it again. She pressed her face against his neck and moaned. Her nails dug into the back of his shoulders as she clung to him. He felt her whole body shudder under him. Slade rocked himself against her, trying to keep her pleasure going while he reached for his own. His release was so close he felt his balls tighten. Amy bit his shoulder, and the shock and slight pain was enough to send him over the edge. He collapsed on top of her and pressed his face into the couch cushion to muffle the grunt he couldn’t hold back. He laughed, shaking them both.
Amy punched him in the side, but there was much power behind it. “What’s so funny?”
“I can’t believe we just had sex on my sister’s couch.” They both laid there and laughed.
It was another first for him, but he hoped not a last. He wouldn’t admit it yet, but he wanted to take her in as many places and positions as he could. So far, she seemed willing. He just needed to keep her that way.
Chapter Eight
Amy tossed and turned, kicking off her sheet and blanket, then pulled them back on. She threw one of her pillows across the room. It hit the wall and silently fell to the floor. It was all very unsatisfying. She knew what would be, but she refused to go there. Besides, she didn’t even know where Slade was right then. Not to mention, she wasn’t the type to call a guy for a late-night booty call.
As it was, every time she closed her eyes she saw Slade’s face. It was either that sexy come-hither grin of his, or the heated stare that made her body tingle. The more she thought about him, the less sure she was about her feelings. Her body, however, wasn’t the slightest bit confused. Hell, with just a look he managed to get her panties wet.
Lying in her bed fantasizing about all the ways she could explore and use his body wasn’t getting her anywhere, so she decided to get up and have a bite to eat. On her way to the kitchen, the phone rang. She groaned, wondering which of her brothers it was and what they could possibly want at midnight.
“Hello.” It came out in a huff, and she hated sounding like that.
“Hey there, beautiful.” Slade’s deep voice resonated through the phone.
“Why do you always sound so suave?” She was glad he couldn’t see her smile.
“Would you rather I sound like a bumbling fool?”
“Maybe.” A pregnant pause settled between them. “So is there a particular reason for this call?”
“There is, but first I want to know why you aren’t sleeping.”
“I’m just a little tense, that’s all.” Why hadn’t she lied and said she was reading a good book?
“Could it be because you cut our date tonight short?”
“We both know where it was headed, and we agreed we’re moving too fast.” She hadn’t given him much of a choice as she shoved him out the door.
“Actually you said sex wasn’t the way to win your heart and I agreed. Do you want to know why?”
She groaned and said, “I’m not sure.”
“Honesty. I have to say that’s one of the things I admire about you. Sex is enjoyable, but any fool knows it takes more than being good in bed to win a woman’s heart.”
“Really? What does it take?”
“Why, gifts, of course. Go open your door.”
She wanted to tell him to take his gift and shove it, yet she found herself hurrying to the door. Did he really think he could use his money to sway her emotions? She peeked through the peephole, then flipped the lock and yanked the door open. Amy looked down at the small shoe-sized, pink box sitting on her welcome mat.
If she accepted this, would he expect her to keep seeing him? “Slade, I don’t think this is a good idea.”
“I can hear the wheels turning in your head.” His laughter didn’t ease her fears like she figured he wanted. “There’s no strings attached. And if you don’t want it I’ll have to throw it away, because it’s unreturnable.”
She picked up the box and closed the door. Amy bobbled the phone and the box as she flipped the lock. She managed to get a grip and carried it into the kitchen. The box couldn’t have weighed more than a couple of ounces, but it felt like a lead weight in her hand. She put it on the counter and walked across the tiny kitchen, wishing it was bigger so she could get further away from it. She glanced at it a few times while she poured herself a glass of soda.
“I do enjoy listening to you breathe,” she groaned, and he laughed. “But are you going to open it?”
“I’m thinking about it.” She was also considering throwing it out the window.
“It won’t bite.”
“Slade,” she sighed, and shook her head, even though he couldn’t see it. “With tomorrow being our fourth date, I don’t think you should be giving me a gift.”
“I’m not trying to bribe you. Stop thinking about our deal, my money, and our fears about getting hurt or hurting each other, and just open the box.” His voice was firm, but not angry.
It wasn’t his forceful demand that had her walking across the floor. No, it was the fact he’d said it was their fears, not just hers. He wasn’t pretending there were no obstacles. Slade was willing to try and get past them. Amy lifted the top off the box. She felt her cheeks heat and slammed the cover back down, but she couldn’t get it on right.
“Oh my God. Where did—? Why the hell—? I can’t believe you bought me a neon-pink dildo.”
“Actually it’s a vibrator.” The crazy bastard had the gall to laugh.
“Dildo, vibrator, they’re the same thing.”
“No they’re not. Dildos don’t do anything special. This toy is soft and has reversible rotating beads in it. The little bunny ears vibrate at two different speeds. It’s easy to control, and best of all, it’s waterproof.”
Amy opened the box and lifted the toy off the white, satiny pillow. It was lighter that she thought it would be and very pink, and it wasn’t nearly as big as Slade’s cock. Not that she’d tell him that and swell his head, or heads, as the case may have been.
“Jeez, you sound like you’re reading an advertisement or something. Just tell me why.” This she just had to hear.
“Because I want you to know that I will always know you don’t need me to provide your sexual pleasure. Hell, you don’t need me for anything, but I want to be there for you anyway. And if you’re willing, we could put that toy to some good use together.”
Damn, what the hell was she supposed to say to that? “Are you expecting a thank-you?”
“Not yet. Maybe once you try it out, you’ll feel like giving me one.” He had to be joking, or at least she hoped he was.
“I’m not using it.” Her tone lacked its normal conviction.
“You say that now, but the temptation will get the better of you at some point.” His teasing didn’t help matters.
“Well right now I’m going to bed.” There, that sounded more like her.
“Sleep well.”
“Goodnight.” She hung up the phone and tossed it on the counter.
It slid across the slick surface and bumped into the box. Amy laid the vibrator back inside the box and put the cover tightly on. She knew she wasn’t going to be getting to sleep anytime soon. How was she supposed to, now that Slade had given her the thought about the using the toy together? Somewhere between pacing and cleaning, she came to a startling realization. Against her better judgment, she’d gone and fallen for Slade. Now she had a difficult choice to make. Should she follow her heart or her head? At the break of dawn, she came up with a plan to do both by putting Slade through a little test.
A lot was riding on how this all went. There was a ninety-seven percent chance Slade would come out of it unscathed, but it was the other three percent that worried her. Just because her brothers liked him didn’t mean they would think he was good enough for her. Deep down, Amy had always known no guy would ever be good enough in their eyes. That was one of the reasons she was doing this. They all, her father included, needed to see she’d made a choice, and there was nothing they could do about it. Of course, if Slade backed down or surrendered to them in any way, then she’d know she made a mistake.
Amy believed there were times to ask people for their opinions or advice, and there was a time to stand your ground and weather the storm. Her brothers were going to come down on them like a tsunami. She held little hope that her sisters-in-law would be able to control their husbands. Hell, they were probably going to be too shocked that she brought a man to dinner to come to her rescue. If her brothers did decide to let Slade live, then she’d give him a chance to prove that her fears of her not fitting into his world weren’t going to be a problem. It was a huge risk, but one she knew she had to take.
She jumped at the loud knock on her door and almost knocked the bowl of potato salad she was stirring to the floor. Amy took a deep breath and wiped her hand on the towel at her waist. She headed for the door, knowing who she’d find on the other side. If she had any chance of pulling this off, she needed to calm her nerves so Slade wouldn’t notice something was going on until it was too late. She opened the door to find him leaning against the wall, waiting for her.
Amy hated that he looked just as good in jeans and a T-shirt as he did in a suit and tie. One man shouldn’t have that much oomph. He had more than his good looks going for him. Slade was smart, creative, and rich. While she stood there and stared, Slade just smiled.
He started to walk past her, but stopped and yanked her up against him. His lips were tender compared to his embrace, but still firm. She willingly opened under his assault. Amy wrapped her arms around his neck and melted against him. He’d better not fuck up her plan, because she’d really miss the way he kissed.
Slade eased back and looked down at her. “Good morning.”
“It is now, but it’s actually afternoon.”
He shrugged. “It still early for a Sunday. Have you decided what we’re going to do today?”
“Um…yeah.” She headed for the kitchen, and he followed.
Amy put the cover on the potato salad and put it in the basket on the table. She opened the fridge and took out the brownie, cookies, and deviled eggs, adding them to the basket, too. Slade stood in the doorway watching. She gave him a smile as she closed the flaps of the basket and picked it up.
“Are we going on a picnic?” He held out his hand, and she let him take the basket.
His smile hinted that he might enjoy one, so Amy filed that little tidbit away for another time. “No.”
“Are you going to tell me where we are going?”
“It’s a surprise.”
“You’re at least going to have to give me directions.”
“I’m driving.” She’d decided it was time for him to sit back and wait like she had.
“Good, I’ve been wondering what it would be like to have a driver.” He tossed her his keys, as he walked onto the front steps.
Amy stuck them in her pocket and turned to lock the door. Slade was already at his car when she stepped onto the walkway. He opened the door and bent over to put the basket in the backseat. She was so focused on the way the denim molded to his perfect ass that she tripped over her own feet. Amy hid her stumble by trotting the rest of the way to the car. Slade stood with his hand on top of the driver’s door.
She could just toss him the keys and tell him where to go. Heck, they could walk the three blocks to her father’s house, but if he was anything like her brothers, letting her drive his car was a big step. Since he was ready to take it, then maybe he’d make it through the day. Amy slid in behind the wheel, and he closed the door. As he rounded the hood, she moved the seat up and adjusted the mirrors for her smaller stature. If one of her brothers saw her behind the wheel as she pulled into her dad’s driveway, it would kick start her plan. She started the car, but didn’t put it in gear.
