Starting right now. “So truth or dare?”

“Uh uh, I’m going first.” He nodded and she asked, “Truth or Dare?”

“Truth.” He figured it might be a good idea to save the dares for later.

Her mouth curved into a smile. “How many women are you seeing right now?”

“One.”

“Does she know about me?” Slade hoped the sharp edge he heard in her tone was jealousy.

“She is you.” He could have laughed at the way she narrowed her eyes and her lips puckered in a kissable pout, but he didn’t want her any madder than she already was. “I haven’t thought about another woman since Jace’s wedding. Hell, even before that there was no one special.”

“Oh.”

“Now it’s my turn. Truth or Dare?”

“Truth.”

“Have you ever had sex with anyone else on that couch?”

“No!” He laughed, and she punched him in the shoulder before laughing herself. “Well?”

“I’ll take truth.” He took a seat on the couch and waited for her question.

“You know, I had the impression you’re boldness knew no bounds, but I guess it does.”

“Some women find boldness to be sexy.”

“And some find it arrogant.” She sat next to him, but far enough away the he’d have to stretch to reach her.

“Which are you?”

“Sorry, not your turn. Why are you so interested in me?”

“Other than the obvious reasons”—he raked his gaze over her body—“there’s something about you that I can’t seem to ignore.”

Amy seemed to be mulling over his response. He could only hope she understood, and hopefully felt the same. Slade got the feeling if he waited for her to respond, he’d be waiting a long time.

He needed to keep this moving before she thought too much about what she might be giving away. “Truth or dare.”

“Truth.”

“What would have happened if you brother had found me hiding in the closet?”

She laughed and shook her head. “You really don’t want to know. There would have been blood involved, probably mostly yours. Seriously, I did you a huge favor.”

“Would he have thought I did something no other guy has ever done?”

“No. I’m pretty sure they know I’m not a virgin, but we’ve never really discussed it. I think they all like to pretend I am, so I’m not exactly sure how they’d react to find me in the act. The few guys they did know I was dating didn’t pass their scrutiny, so they didn’t last very long.”

“And that was okay with you?”

“If a guy can’t hold his own with my father and brothers, he’s not the guy for me. You’re not playing fair. You only get one question at a time. Now stop cheating.”

Slade tucked that little tidbit away for later. “Fine. I’ll take truth.”

“What is it going to take to make you see how wrong of a fit we are?”

“I don’t know, but if it happens you’ll be the first to know. Why are you so sure we can’t build something really good between us?”

She waggled her finger at him as if he was a naughty child. “I didn’t choose yet, so your question doesn’t count. I’ll take a dare.”

“Okay. I dare you to ignore all the reasons why you’re pushing me away and just kiss me.”

It may have been his imagination, but he thought her heavy sigh had a melodic tone to it. For a second or two, he thought she was going to refuse. She closed her eyes, and when she reopened them there was a glimmer that hadn’t been there before. It seemed his sprite was no coward, thank God. Amy inched close to him, her gaze never leaving his. He knew she wasn’t trying to tease him, but her innocence did just that.

He liked the fact that she hadn’t played these games enough to be completely comfortable. She laid her hand on his thigh to brace herself. As she leaned toward him, his unruly cock once again reacted to her nearness, rising at the chance that it might see a little action. He really couldn’t blame it, because he wanted her to touch him. Slade felt the light tickle of Amy’s breath just before her lips settled on his. They were so soft, moist, and inviting, it made it hard for him to let her control the kiss. He almost groaned when he felt her tongue touch his bottom lip. The second he opened his mouth, and with one sweep of her tongue, all of her timidness vanished.

Her hands were splayed on his chest, but not pulling him closer or pushing him away. She held him where she wanted him, without applying any pressure. Slowly, Slade slid his hands to her hips. He couldn’t stop himself from lifting her onto his lap. The way she moaned into his mouth and wiggled her ass against his stiff cock told him she didn’t mind. He let his hand slide up her back, pressing her soft, round breasts against his chest. The thump of her heart beneath his hands was fast and strong.

Suddenly she pushed him against the back of the couch. She scrambled to her feet and turned her back on him.

Slade could tell by the rise and fall of her shoulders that she took a few breaths before saying, “Okay you win.”

He sat there not really sure what his next move was. Amy didn’t have the same problem. She walked over and opened the door.

Slade got to his feet as she said, “You proved your point, so you can go now.”

“What point would that be?” he asked.

“That we have some chemistry.” The blush on her cheeks told him she wasn’t comfortable with her admission.

He walked over and stopped in front of her. “I’m glad we agree on that.”

She shoved him toward the door, and he let her. “Just remember, chemistry can be dangerous.”

Slade didn’t have time to respond before she closed the door. He heard a few light thuds and smiled, as he pictured her banging her head against the door. Amy was right, desire was a flame that could burn out, leaving you feeling singed, but he thought it would be worth the risk to play with fire this one time. He just needed to get Amy to play with him.

Chapter Seven

Amy looked in the mirror and did a slow turn. “What do you guys think?”

“Are you trying to stop his heart?” Lainey asked.

Okay, so the pants were way tighter than she normally wore. And the stupid bra Dianne picked out for her had her boobs looking like they were ready to spill out of the tank-style blouse if she moved wrong. All in all, it was an outfit put together with the intent to bring a man to his knees.

“I think you look hot.” Sadie nodded her approval.

“There’s no way your brothers will let you walk out the door wearing that.” Lainey pointed out a major flaw in their plan.

“Tell me again how you got yourself deeper in this mess.”

“It was a game of chance. I lost, and now I’m paying my debt.”

“I’d like to know what he was willing to do if he lost.” Jillian’s tone insinuated that Amy had let herself lose.

“He would be working at the garage one night a week, but since he won, that doesn’t matter does it?”

“Testy.” Jillian teased. “So where are you two going?”

“I don’t know, which is why I need you guys to help pick out something to wear.”

How had she lost?
She didn’t even know you could lose at Truth or Dare. Then again, she’d never played Slade’s version either. She wondered if he kept points for telling if the other person was lying. Not that she had tried, because he seemed to be able to read her a lot better than she read him.

It had taken her most of the night—which she spent tossing and turning—to figure out she’d been played. She almost deserved it, for the stunt with the closet. Still, somehow Slade had found one of her biggest flaws and used it against her. She hated to refuse a dare or a bet. At least she’d be wiping out two dares by dating him.

Lainey’s original dare had been for her and the rest of her friends to have a fling with a sexy guy the wanted, even if there was no future for them. Slade fit the bill to a capital T. She knew they’d never move past the affair stage, even if he hadn’t faced that fact yet. She actually found it a little disturbing that she found it soothing that she wasn’t going to have to try and impress him in any way. For the next four days, she planned on allowing herself to enjoy the time she spent with him, and then at the end they’d go their separate ways.

“I hate to be the buzzkill here, but what if Slade isn’t just looking to have some fun? Do you really want to take a chance on breaking his heart?” Karen brought up the one part of all this that Amy hadn’t wanted to think too much about.

One look confirmed what Amy had been afraid of. Karen was going to have a hard time not letting her heart get involved when, more likely, if, she chose her guy. Amy decided that later, she’d have a talk with Lainey and the rest of the girls to ask them to consider letting Karen out of the dare.

She looked Karen in the eyes and said, “I’m going to do my best not to break his heart.” She winked and added, “Now his balls might be another story altogether.”

Her friends all laughed, and Karen said, “Okay, then I think those pants with the hot-pink sheer blouse and matching cami.”

“Oh, and the black heels from the other night.” Dianne took on a glow just mentioning shoes.

Amy knew the outfit would only be the start. If she kept him focused on sex, then hopefully he wouldn’t notice she was keeping him from seeing too much.

* * * *

After their game last night, Slade had left her place ready to embark on the mission of a lifetime. He had four days to make her fall in love with him. If not love, then a really strong case of like. According to his sister, he was likable at times. He just needed to make sure she was around for one of those moments. Hopefully what he was about to do wouldn’t be a setback.

A double date wasn’t Slade’s idea of the best way to romance Amy, but he’d taken one look on his sister’s face and instantly agreed. In truth, he was kind of curious who’d asked her out. It wasn’t like his sister to keep secrets, so there had to be a reason why she wouldn’t tell him who the guy was. Of course, it could be as simple as her knowing he’d show up just to see who it was. Either way, he liked the idea of being there to let the guy know right from the beginning that he was going to be watching. He walked up to Amy’s door, ready to tell her about their plans for the night.

Before he could even raise his hand, she opened the door and knocked the wind out of him. Damn, she looked good. Her outfit made his heart race. The sheer shirt left just enough to imagination, even though he already knew what she was hiding there. Her slacks hugged her ass and hips, but were looser on her legs and tied at her ankles where those fuck-me high heel’s straps started. With her jet-black hair pulled up on top of her head, she looked like a naughty genie ready to make his wishes come true.

“You look nice.” He figured she knew just how hot she looked and refused to stroke her ego.

“Gee, thanks.” She locked her door and followed him down the walkway to his car.

Slade knew he should tell her where they were going. He’d planned on it, but once he saw her, he knew he wasn’t giving her any reason to back out of their date. She agreed that the dates would be of his choosing, and he chose to double with his sister and her mystery date. Amy was just going to have to deal with it. There was an added benefit to her being so hot. If this guy was truly interested in his sister, then he shouldn’t take a second look at Amy.

The second he slid behind the wheel, she asked, “So are you planning on telling me where we’re going?”

“Dinner.”

“Want to elaborate?” Her tone hinted that it wasn’t a request.
