Screwdriver (10 page)

Casey pulled the drop cloth away, enjoying Jordan’s gasp of
surprise when her eyes landed on the sculpture he’d created of the three of
them.

“Oh my God. It’s…it’s incredible.”

He’d finished the piece the night Gabriel had come to his
apartment, the night they’d decided to pursue her together, to form their trio.

Her hand shook slightly as she reached up to touch it. She
followed each contour of the figures with her fingers, enjoying the texture as
much as the visual experience. “How can anything this beautiful be wrong?”

Gabriel wrapped his arms around her from behind, pulling her
against his bare chest. “It can’t.”

She smiled. “You’re right. It can’t.”

“Move in with me. Both of you. I’m tired of us keeping
separate spaces. I want to make this official, permanent. You can finally make
that apartment of yours a studio, Casey, and Jordan, you can let the lease
lapse on that tiny place of yours. I’ve got a big-ass empty house and I want
you all to help me fill it.”

Jordan looked at Casey. “What do you say? You’d suffer the
most. Neither of us finds beauty in the chaos of dirty socks.”

Casey laughed. “I suppose I could try to find some sort of
inspiration in tidiness. But just in case, you’re keeping the housekeeper,
right?”

Gabriel reached over and punched him playfully on the arm.
“So that’s a yes?”

They both nodded.

“Good. Then let’s go christen our new house.”

About the Author

Writing a book was number one on Mari’s bucket list and on
her thirty-fourth birthday, she set out to see that goal achieved. Now her
computer is jammed full of stories—novels, novellas, short stories and
dead-ends. A
New York Times
and
USA Today
bestseller, as well as
winner of the Passionate Plume, Mari finds time for writing by squeezing it
into the hours between 3 a.m. and daybreak, when her family is asleep and the
house is quiet.
